3:26 Wouldn’t it be better to change the “Lifecycle Settings” for the bucket to “Keep only the last version” since HyperBackup keeps old versions of the backups? Otherwise BackBlaze would keep old copies of the HyperBackup file, which also keeps old versions of the backup creating unnecessary data duplication in the bucket (and extra cost to store)?
Hi, Kari from Backblaze here. That really depends on your budget and backup needs. Since a NAS is vulnerable to on-site disasters and ransomware, you may want to keep older versions of backups stored offsite in cloud storage. Backblaze B2 makes it very affordable to do so- but it's ultimately up to you.
thanks. I need to backup customer data. I first bring back customer data to a unique folder on my nas ( every customer has its own folder). Should I create as many buckets as customer folders or 1 bucket for all customers folders is ok ?
If only you will have access to the bucket, then 1 bucket for all customers folders is better. You can have as many files as you like in a bucket, but there is a limit (100 by default) to the number of buckets you can have in an account.
Not using the standard Cloud Sync or Hyper Backup apps on the Synology. You would have to run a Windows VM on the Synology that saw the Synology array as a local drive, and install the Backup client there. This can be cheaper than backup up to B2, depending on how much data you have, but the disadvantage is that your files in Personal Backup are not accessible from the wide range of tools and applications that can access B2 via its S3-compatible API.
Hey there, When I click the dropdown box for "Bucket Name" I get an error message come up - "Unable to connect to the remote server. Please check your network settings." How do I fix this?
Very awesome tutorial and setup is pretty straight forward. One feature I like on other backup platforms that i've not found yet is backup verifications sent via EMAIL. Does backblaze offer this?
Thanks for the feedback! If you're referring specifically to the Synology NAS + Backblaze B2 combination in the video, you can configure notifications via email. Click "Enable task notification" in the Hyper Backup settings, then, in Synology Control Panel, go to System > Notification > Email and set up the email sender and recipient there.
When it started backing up I could see it working, however, overnight, it apparently lost connection. Does it automatically start again? How can I tell it is being backed up?. If it is not backing up, how do I start it again?
After a night of use, I've come to the conclusion that HyperBackup is garbage. CloudSync is loads better. HB was going to take 20 days to back up 4TB, and I have a gigabit connection so it's not bandwidth. CloudSync is on track to get it done in about a day. This is without compression on both attempts.
Hi, Kari from Backblaze here. Some customers do get better performance with CloudSync, and we have a video on that as well, but keep in mind that a sync is different than a backup so choose the one that meets your needs.
Hyper Backup gives me the following error when I tried to 'test' it. "Insufficient privileges to access this destination shared folder. Please contact the destination administrator for assistance." Do I need to enter my credit card details to try the 'free' test?

Love your work!! Just perfect!!

Can Synology link with the Backblaze Personal Backup?

Edward that might be a temporary issue, if you're still experiencing it though, can you please reach out to support at: backblaze.com/help?
Super useful! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

@@metadaddy-blze Perfect! Thanks. I did it that way and it worked well. Always a work-a-round. lol
I looked all over for backblaze to do it.

It seems I am encountering the same issue. I have about 12T of data on my server. That mean it will take months to back it up?
Thank You Kindly! Great tutorial and helpful!
