If anyone is wondering why instructors still run a decades-old drill, the Bill Drill is a fantastic tool for reinforcing a consistent master grip of the draw, learning techniques for recoil control, developing reactive marksmanship skills (shot-calling through sight feedback), and identifying a shooter’s tempos for predictive marksmanship at speed and distance. Kudos to John for using his platform to introduce new shooters to the Bill Drill. Great video-it’s always great to watch someone make progress in real time.
Ok, I may have shot a few bills drills and I may deeply understand Gabes standards. I say that just to frame my comment. That last run was a thing of beauty and she definately has more in the tank. Most people dont understand what level of work it takes to get "impressive" bill times. It aint easy folks! She is absolutely crushing it! In a repeat of one of my previous comments in this series, I truly hope the range monkey knows there are a TON of people who know what they are doing that are truly impressed with her progress. This video inspires me! She handles that recoil like a BOSS
Great video, and wonderful coaching. This specific drill is what I've been working hard on since starting shooting back in January. I love seeing the great feedback and instruction. Go Monkey!
How absolutely cool, Natalie you are rocking this pisstol stuff. Mad respect. I was here in texas rouring for that under 5 sec run, well done young lady! Also John, you are a fabulous instuctor, truly no pressure, nicely done also sir!
This shows me how much I need to practice. I’ve never truly timed myself but seeing her, makes me think that I need to work on it. She may be faster than I am. 😂
Congratulations to you both. Teacher and student deserve great credit. I would like to offer some food for thought. Watching ASP videos has shown me that you will rarely (probably never) get six shots at a stationary target, unless you're Jerry Miculek. FIBS is almost like teleportation. It's amazing how fast assailants move when being met with return fire. While the Bill Drill is a good test of shooting skill, I'm not sure it's a real useful test of self defense skill. By the time you have fired 1, 2 or (at most) 3 shots (or were fired at in return), both you and your adversary will likely be in different positions, and having to shoot at a different spot than when you started. That's what I see in your videos. I think drills/practice/training to develop that skill would be the most useful. Multiple, short strings of fire at a few different points of aim. Just my take. Love your channel. Watch it every day.
While you're not wrong, Micheal, you have to understand that building skill is first and foremost a task of building principle on principle. Adding a complexity of movement when a shooter is still myelinating a consistent grip, sights, and trigger management adds a variable that makes progress MUCH more difficult. And we always teach to shoot what you can SEE, and so that is included in the idea you're talking about. Also, you don't have to be Jerry Miculek to get 5 or 6 in a bad guy before he has a chance to really move. You'd be surprised at first shot to last, 1.5 seconds or so, and how stationary a target can stay.
Great shots. Man I can't wait to move to Texas. Never owned my own firearm or shot one by myself. Your niece is quite good. You're a great uncle, man. Where is your school based?
Man I'd love to see some of this stuff with IWB instead of AIWB. I know all of the operators have switched up to AIWB, but some people just can't do it, and I feel like things are very different from IWB.
@@bshadrick thanks, i mean hey even someone with a damn hi point who practices everyday and cleans it regularly is probably safer thab the guy who splurged on a new glock amd never uses it... All about practice, the gun is just the tool, practice is everything. I know chicks who have been shooting twoce as long as me that can outshoot me in most calibers accuracy and speedwise, and its due to practice. Stay safe everyone
It's six shots because it was originally a revolver drill invented by Bill Jordan. After Jordan died, Bill Wilson started claiming credit for inventing it. Ask any of the old guys who knew Jordan, and they'll tell you.
With 9mm rounds costing 0.50 to 0.70 per round depending on one's manufacturer of choice, this is a GREAT exercise to truly enhance one's skill and not break the bank ==> As opposed to seeing what 80% of those at the range mostly do: Simply stand stationary with a 6-20 round magazine and trying desperately to hit the tiny 1inch red dot bullseye at 10yrds...then try at 7yrds...then 5 yards because it took that many rounds to make themselves feel better because they FINALLY took out that pesky little red dot in the middle! And now, you're out of ammo! :)
Wow that is nice. She does not look old enough to have a pistol. Of course I don't know about the rest of the world, communist NY you must be 21 and have a permit before you can ever handle a pistol

Such an incredibly positive attitude and environment. This is EXACTLY how new shooters should be taught. Great work! Great shooting too!
This series is priceless. Dunno who's idea it was to do, but I think it is such a great addition to the other content. Bravo. Seriously.
Thanks!
I found myself cheering for her. She did awesome!
You're a great instructor.
Glad you think so!

She really did well.
I enjoyed this so much! You are such an awesome teacher
Thank you so much!
Great student. Great teacher.
John is so awesome. She's a lucky girl to have such a good uncle.
John has taught me a TON of stuff to practice, not just the range monkey series. I'd say 30% of his videos is something new to all of us..
Good instruction and good shooting. Kudos to both of you.
Awesome video! Thanks John.
That was awesome shooting on a bill drill
Watching these is not only fun, I'm learning too
Good job !! Hugs from Brazil !
I caught myself clapping 👏 and cheering lol damn. Great work!

i am shooting the same drills at my local range and getting better with each session. Thanks for another great lesson.

She is so good... thanks for sharing!
Good luck with the flying (I'm a professional pilot) - I like your teaching skills as well.

0:40 "we can safely draw, we can do a ______ 5x5 under time pressure.." What did he say? Do a what 5x5?
Gila Hayes. The name of the lady who came up with that test. 5” circle at 5 yards, from the ready, on the beep put 5 shots in the circle in 5 seconds.

Reminds me of the old trunk monkey commercials
Do y'all go every week? Or like 2 videos one day and post them separately?

Hi John, what holster does the Range Monkey use? I am looking for one for my new LTT Compact Carry
BTW, Fantastic job Range Monkey! Girl is a natural.

I have never before seen an indoor range which lets you shoot from the holster.
C2 does. You just have to be holster certified.
@@ASPextra - What is "holster certified"? ( Sounds like something they'd require for gun owners in New Jersey. )
After I watched her last cycle, I HAD to tell my fiance how much BETTER she is than me and that it's CRAZY how well she's done.

To use the public range at C2 is I think $20 an hour. I am a member of their 338 club which is more.

Maybe try different hand positions than the cheater position. Cutting corners
Or, maybe become proficient in one technique then add more.
