@@broshmosh A lot of low point blue cards are actually very cheap. Dig Through Time, Treasure Cruise, Merchant Scroll. Flash is also cheap, but high points.
I love these because of the realtime analyzes that you guys do as you make plays, even telling eachother what you have in hand and what you can do to counter or recover as the other is resolving a big thing. I don't play at this level of magic but watching it played like this, with big cards and strategies but in such a friendly, open manner is a true delight!
I realised watching this what makes this series so great. It reminds me of when I used to go down to my (now closed) LGS on Sundays and meet a friend and we'd spend the whole day getting reps in on a whole bunch of different decks to prep for events. It was always super chill and we'd just chat and joke around and try to talk everything through so we could both improve our play. Great vibes, fills me with nostalgia 10/10
Really enjoyable video! Something to note from 20:46 : You can't use Duplicant to deal with Marit Lage because Duplicant can only target nontoken creatures.
Loved this one. Excellent. Bengineering is becoming a character of this show. His occasional chuckle makes the experience feel just a little more personable. The LRR touch you could say.
Yup. The creatures don't actually die until state-based actions are checked, which doesn't happen until after the spell finishes resolving, so Titania is still around to see the lands be destroyed.
I come back to this episode in particular every now and again just to hear Serge say "Big. Red." so clearly and with so much hit. And his two colors being Big and Red make it all the better
Yes, actually. Titania should've seen those lands be destroyed, because creatures don't die from damage until state based actions are checked after a spell finishes resolving.
Not quite, but still yes. The four damage is dealt before the lands are destroyed (you always do things in the order they're printed on the card) but Titania doesn't actually die until state-based actions are checked after the spell finishes resolving, so she's still around to see the lands be destroyed.
@@Izandaia Yeah I understand now about the fact that they don't die until SBA are checked, though I just checked the oracle text for the card and the damage happens after the LDs.
Cradlehoof is the GOAT of being the first deck most would-be Canlander players assemble (usually the mono-green version though). As the only reeeeaaally expensive card to get for the deck is Gais Cradle, it's quite popular!
@@brothersinmoscow Triggered abilities only go on the stack once players gain priority, which doesn't happen in the middle of a spell resolving. Titania sees the lands being destroyed, so after Burning finishes resolving and Titania is dead, her triggered ability then goes on the stack.
@@brothersinmoscow That's not how that works. The destroying lands and dealing damage to creatures is all one effect. The triggers from Titania are created during that effect, so they are put onto the stack once it completely finishes resolving. Thus, the tokens would be made after the damage is dealt.
Why didn't wheeler get tokens from titania after burning? Cause the lands get blown up first, but the creatures die during resolution, shouldn't the triggers go on the stack?
North100 Showdown is the ONLY reason why I care about massively expensive cards I know I'll never be able to own or afford. I don't care about legacy or vintage because I'll never own some of those cards. But this show makes me care and interested.
I really like the content. But in game 2 Ben would have had 3 elemetals after the Burning of Xin-ye resolved, since Titania sees the lands leaving before dying to state based actions. That would have won him the game, since the next two turns were nothing on serges side. It's even exactsies if the crypt roll was the same.
So even if this was caught - keep on mind Serge likely then goes for the line of equip spear to batterskull and wildfire precombat - so idk if it actually ends up mattering
Great games! Only potential misplay I noticed was at 15:42 where SUrge put Chandra into exile immediately. He could have played her, used the second +1 to gain two Red and played the Glorybringer as well, giving access to a second Planeswalker while also leaving protection.
i have a rules question maybe somecan can answer me. the moment that wildfire was cast and titania was out. isnt she triggering ? the wording on wildfire says first to sacrifice lands and then deal damage. so after wildfire resolves titania trigger would go on the stack and create 3 Elementals?
I believe so as well, the lands are destroyed, then all creatures are dealt 4 damage, then burning resolves, with Titania seeing 3 lands leaving the field before state based actions kill her, so the creatures would be wiped and 3 elementals would appear.
Correct. The damage is dealt but Titania and the rest of the creatures don't die until SBAs check after the Burning fully resolves. Titania thus sees all the lands die but her triggers don't go on the stack until Burning has resolved fully and been removed
The turn where Serge was playing glorybringer... was Serge sitting or any 2mv interaction or bluffing? Because, and only if the answer is no, he ould just played also chandra, getting 2 extra mana and cast the dragon.
Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but why shouldn't you be able to target an indestructible land with a destroy ability? It just wouldn't be destroyed, but it should be a perfectly legal target for burning of xinye
As Burning of Xinye resolves, first you destroy four lands you control (all at the same time), then the targeted opponent destroys four lands they control (all at the same time). That player chooses which of their lands to destroy. Neither of you can choose to destroy a land with indestructible. (2013-07-01)
Man, I'd love to tap Ancient Tomb and not take any damage as Serge did in game 3 turn 2. Didn't super matter but would have made Wheeler's math easier to eyeball. Also the Burning/Titania misplay all the other comments are highlighting.
Serge's sleeves are now a visual cue to when a video was filmed. :D
That Chit Chaff was so good
You guys made a mistake - you're supposed to determine who plays first with a friendly judge tower best of five.
That last episode was divine
Imagining selecting Wheeler as a fighter in Brawl and just hearing out of the crusty wiimote speaker "Thank you for having me, it's great to be here"
Gold comment
I have never played this format and probably never will, but gosh darn it I enjoy watching a good pair of lads having fun.
Same! This series is a great watch
Yeah, same here. Point cards would be impossible to afford, even if you only need one!
Good boys! The goodest!!

44:16 Serge is so excited to have Ancient Tomb and slam 3-ball that he neglects to take the 2 damage from Ancient Tomb.

Something to note from 20:46 : You can't use Duplicant to deal with Marit Lage because Duplicant can only target nontoken creatures.
That makes sense, too, given that an exiled token would cease to exist, thus not interacting with the imprint ability.

I think at 15:30 serge could have played Chandra then glory ringer so he could go one card deeper next turn for an answer
Shouldn't ben have ended up with 3 elementals after wildfire from titania? Not sure of the interaction there. Games were a blast anyway
Yup. The creatures don't actually die until state-based actions are checked, which doesn't happen until after the spell finishes resolving, so Titania is still around to see the lands be destroyed.
Yea I was kinda sad to see them miss that. Loved the games still.

I think this is one of the best episodes yet, such good showcases of both decks! Absolutely love this series
I love the speckling of Pokémon Stadium quotes from Wheeler.
The vibes of this show are always a highlight of the week

I appreciate that as wacky and complicated as Magic can get, sometimes a 20/20 is also just good enough to win.
I love to see some Canadian Highlander videos! This is the best format

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This type of magic would stress me out to play, but it’s so much fun to watch.
Was really wishing there was more of these yesterday!
Weird tangent but I love that you guys are using moxfield oh, I'm so glad it displays the Point list total and what cards they correspond to

one of the best canlander matchups, ever

In game 1 could Serge have played Chandra from exile, made mana with her, and THEN cast glorybringer? Or am I missing something?
Ya, unless he was holding up a 2 mana instant he could have

Fog-Koth, Leg-Koth.
Hihglander yes thank
On the thumbnail, Serge is really judging Wheeler for what he's doing.
How many of these Canlander videos are gonna begin with Wheeler claiming to be the innovator of a deck? XD
In game 3 fynhorn elves had summoning sickness and could not tap for mana therefore only creature able to attack was craterhoof

Just letting Wheeler know that I pause the video, pull up Jungle Japes, set volume to 20%, and unpause the video whenever a Primeval Titan is played.
