Huge thanks to my brother Taylor Bates for pulling this edit together while I was at the Final Cut Pro Global Summit!
Good stuff bro!
A part 2 would be great!
Another vote for Part 2
As someone still new to FCP, I find your videos so helpful. You explain things so well (A lot of FCP bloggers have great content but they just go so fast I can't follow it). But for example even this video, presumably aimed at people familiar enough to need shortcuts, was a massive help. Just for letting me know what tools are available and what they do, let alone how to access them quickly.
Been following you for a few years now and I’m still learning new things. You are so underrated my guy you have no idea how useful your videos have been for me in my journey in becoming a filmmaker.
That was great, please give us more!
Amazing tips, thank you Bro.
Thanks. Holding down the key is new to me. VERY useful!
This is so helpful. Thank you!
Dylan, thank you very much for the very helpful video.
The following has nothing to do with shortcuts, but is very helpful for me:
Double-clicking on an audio track opens the audio components like ctrl + s.
To my knowledge, no one has ever mentioned this in any video.
But I didn't know ctrl + opt + s yet.
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany, Matthias
Excellent video! please make part 2.
First shortcut and Boom, wow didn’t know you could hold down B. Wow! Love that. 👍👍👍
I can’t believe I didn’t know about Shift + T…very helpful video!
Awesome tutorial! Knew a lot of it but the new things I learned are game changers!
many thanks for this! I vote for part 2
Did not expect to get so many tips from this after using FCP for nearly 5 years! Would love a follow up!
There are some really useful tips Dylan. Very much appreciated over here in Scotland. But, over here in Scotland, we don't have periods, we have full stops - och aye the noo!!
Can't be more helpful!! 👍 Thanks a lot Dylan, and can't wait for part 2 ! 👏👏
Thank you so much, hope you will make the next part!!
Scotland would like to see Part 2!!!
Always Gems!!!!
Thanks for this precious tips 👍
Great tips! Thank you
When I was first learning FCP I kept notes of things I did on a regular basis. Then when I got a chance I looked up or created my own keyboard shortcuts for those actions. A simple key press is much quicker than searching through menus or dragging and dropping. After a surprisingly short time muscle memory kicks in and you barely have to think about what you’re doing. Thanks Dylan! 😎👍🏼
Hammer Geil! Vielen Dank 🥳 You helped me a lot! Greetings from Germany
We need a PDF printable cheat sheet and a link to it in the show notes.
Great channel, Great contents, thanks for sharing
Parte 2 por favor 🙏
For part 2. Mouse and Keyboard shortcut.
My favorite keyboard shortcut is 'D' for Delete so I don't have to remove my right hand from my mouse just to hit delete on my keyboard. I don't use 'D' for overwrite anyways.
Is there a way to have your default transition with a default number of frames?
Nice ones... Basic but worth mentioning and sure we would like a Part 2 just as a refresh. PS. I wish FCPX would add scroll zoom in the viewer kind of like Davinci, it would be handy when in the viewer if we could scroll the mouse to zoom in and out and also have a hand tool or click and hold to move it around...
Yes scrolling zoom in the viewer :(
@ekphotography Hey, I just found out that you can navigate the viewer using the hand tool by pressing H, and you can zoom in or out with Command + or -. Make sure you're using the hand tool; it won't work with the select tool. Thanks to Dylan for this video. ruclips.net/video/Fnu6FiZ_Vd0/видео.html
If you have an ordinary mouse: shift + mouse wheel to scroll horizontally on the timeline.
This feature applies to every window in mac os x, independently of the app you are using, hence, also fcpx :)
Great stuff as always. Also, as a side, after seeing those pics... how tall are you??? lol
How would you rate the stability of the latest 10.6.10? I'm still on 10.6.5 and thinking about finally updating.
Stability has been really good for me personally on 10.6.10!
Do you have a fix t the problem that I keep deleting Title and Caption elements by hitting Forward Delete when editing text inside them? It makes me mad :-)
Where is the bloody shortcut to just hit save to save the entire project? I’m amazed, nobody talks about this. I would think this would be the first thing somebody to teach somebody.
Final Cut Pro is always saving every action you do. There is no project saving. If you plan on making big sweeping changes to your project, and you’re not sure how they will turn out, I recommend making a “backup” of your timeline. You can do this by right clicking your project in the browser, and selecting “snapshot”. This makes a backup that you can jump to at anytime!
