      When I remove the crusties in a really bad ear I use triple antibiotic since its vaseline with the medicine. I use vaseline if its just getting left in no poking. Its harder for them to knock the oil out when its thicker.
      With ours they are in a pen so sometimes catching the ones with it is a bit hard. When they are fine they usually come to us. So now we've noticed their avoidance is a sign they need to be looked at. Its never caused severe problems so when we cant catch her sometimes we dont take it too hard we know we eventually will that week lol.

      @@RidgeLife rabbits tend to hide their issues. Showing weakness gets them killed in the wild and our bunnies tend to still hold that trait unfortunately. Just one of those things to watch out for. Also rabbits need stuff to chew food usually is crunchy etc but their teeth will continue to grow like rodents if they cant keep them down. Our rabbits manage with food and hay but sometimes they get branches etc that fall in the pen and they use them too. Usually they keep them down by themselves just fine but say they chip a tooth then this can make it harder for them to keep them down.
      I have pet rats too and we had one that chipped a tooth and we didn't know. When I noticed she was losing weight a bit rapidly I opened her mouth and saw that one tooth was curling back inward. It was a pretty scary moment. Also some genetically have not so great teeth. So its always a good thing with rodents and other types of animals that have teeth like that (rabbita and guinea pigs) to just check in case. Sometimes they need their teeth clipped and it's miserable. They hate it we hate it. Its not the common thankfully just want to throw that in too. Havent had that issue ever yet with all our rabbits but I've had friends that have had to clip rabbit teeth. So its one of those hope for the best prepare for the worst situations and better to have the stuff on hand and check every so often rather than be caught unaware and lose an animal.

    Any kind of oil will smother them, I personally like to use triple antibiotic if anyone gets a bad case of them.
    They say earmites are easy to catch them etc but we have females all together and only some seem prone to them. Hermione we just treated yesterday (shes getting better about sitting there now since she is very prone to them and its mostly just the one ear oddly enough). She doesn't let us catch her much unless they are getting bad. Hers were really bad yesterday it was up to the top of that ear. So in order to get the oil to do its thing it required us to use the tweezers and pull a lot of it out. For this reason I like triple antibiotic its a dollar at dollar tree, it helps heal the ear, and smothers the little mites. You can even use vegetable oil it all smothers them I just feel vaseline/or triple antibiotic.
    It doesn't take long when we do it but we pick it out if there is crusting. It helps the treatment go faster but rabbits hate being poked in the ear so we wrap our buns in a light towel or blanket. If its very bad we give breaks in between because some rabbits panic too much if it takes too long. It takes two when we remove it. Some of it is dead skin but also mite poo. I wouldnt recommend removing it alone but if someone can hold them it makes things safe. Like you said you dont want them shaking and possibly getting the treatment out but also if you are removing it with tweezers like we do then they cant shake it could severely hurt them. Which is why if they arent cooperating we give them breaks.
    Hermione has gotten use to it. She sat still and it only took ten minutes (for once) she must have really wanted it out and she finally realized we are helping her. If they cooperate and arent too fiesty it can be done so quickly. We are thankful that very few of our rabbits are prone to it. We do check everyone.
    Also you want to be careful with tea tree oil. Some animals react badly to it. If you want it to be harder to shake out thick oil works a bit better like the Vaseline or triple antibiotic.
    When rabbits dont have much I just leave it in like you do. Hermione gets it so bad it blocks her ear. She will be fine for quite a long time but then they come back with a vengeance. When she avoids us a lot thats my sign shes got them she hates her ears being treated. She eventually lets us catch her if they are bad enough. Most of our rabbits come to us (including her when her ears are fine lol) but none of them like stuff in their ears of course.
    Since mine are in a pen I find it so confusing how most of them never seem to get it and then there is always a couple that they just seem to love to go for. Emily Hermione's sister got them in both ears bad a lot. Hermione its her right ear. If there is any in her left ear its usually just a tiny amount (that we leave the oily stuff in and dont pick at since its not blocked).
    I'm hoping her sitting still etc and being easier to catch now is a sign shes getting that it will be easier to keep on it from now on. Fingers crossed lol. Eli gets it sometimes (Emily's daughter) but not as bad as Hermione or Emily. Not sure what drives them to get some more than others.
    Now you know your bun gets it Id love an update to see if you notice her being more prone than the others later on when more time has passed.

    Tea tree oil HURTS in the ear. HURTS REALLY BAD! There is nothing soothing about it.
    It also makes the environment toxic to the mites. Its the best thing to evict them but it HURTS so you need to add lidocaine too.

    • @RidgeLife
      @RidgeLife  2 года назад

      You add TTO at very small amounts to the coconut oil that is soothing to the mite damage.

    • @bartendersunny1
      @bartendersunny1 2 года назад +2

      Do it to your ear and tell me how soothing it is. It HURTS! but that's not to say it doesn't work. It works by making that environment undesirable to the mites. It works on kids too for ear aches of most kinds. BUT you have to put it in a cotton ball and fold the cotton ball so the oil itself doesn't touch the ear BC IT HURTS! It'll peel a whole layer of skin off too.
      I'm not saying dont do it, im saying understand that it hurts really bad so add some lidocaine cream too.

    "Meat rabbits"? What!! you actually treat them kindly, care for them, and then murder them and eat them? That sounds really sick to me. How could you do that? They are individuals who value their lives, just like you value yours, and they don't want to die. They trust you and you betray them. Vile and shameful.

    • @RidgeLife

    • @veganc5028
      @veganc5028 3 года назад

      @@RidgeLife You might kill chickens, cattle and rabbits to eat but I would have to ask why? Eating animal products is a #number one carcinogen, which causes cancer. It also causes heart disease, diabetes, erectile dysfunction to name a few others. So, you really want to be putting this into your body? Millions of people eat a plant based or vegan diet. Plants don't have a brain or a central nervous system so they don't feel anything, unlike the sentient beings you choose to eat, who feel pain, value their lives and don't want to die. Animal agriculture is also one of the main causes of greenhouse gases which is causing climate change. Watch some documentaries like "What the Health", "Gamechangers", "Dairy is Scary"

    • @RidgeLife
      @RidgeLife  3 года назад +3

      Are you saying vegans don't get cancer at the same rate as carnivores with the same lifestyle? Have you not seen the studies how plants respond to external stimuli? I was a biology major in college and all living creatures both plant and animal have a purpose and the purpose for cows is steak and lettuce is a salad. I love them both and am so appreciative for the sustenance they give. You can choose to not eat meat and I promise I won't go on your channel and try to convince you otherwise. @@RidgeLife Yes, I am saying that vegans don't get cancer like carnists do. A plant based diet has actually been shown to reverse cancer, heart disease and diabetes. If you really want to educate yourself, watch "What the Health", "Gamechangers", "Dairy is Scary", and one very informing channel is "Mic the Vegan", who studies all the scientific facts and shows them in detail. The purpose of a cow is to be a cow who is their own person, a sentient individual who wants to live their life. Animals are not here for us, they are here with us.
