I hope that sharing my story can help YOU on your journey to bunny ownership. There are too many bunnies out there in need of a good home to be spending your money on poor breeding tactics. Do your research, and know the signs. I hope this helps 💕

I got my bunny from a breeder, the breeder wasn't horrible, but they did keep their bunnies in hutches with metal cages, and I live in AZ. But you definitely saved Cinnabun, so when you're feeling that guilt just know that you totally rescued her, who knows what would've happened had she been there longer, especially with untreated mites and pin worms.

Is there a government animal welfare department that can be notified about this breeder? If standards exist ( i know this is a big "if") it is very important that violations be reported -- that is the only way for standards to be enforced. You are a fantastic Bunny Mom, Morgan, and you are doing a fantastic service for your viewers by providing all this information. Bless you (and Cinnabun🐇❤️)!

Wow I saved my bunny too guy came day before was looking at rabbits growth said he'd be perfect for his snake. Day comes I knew nothing of this was compelled to drive an hour to a pet store and met this beautiful rabbit he licked my hand and I couldn't leave him. I had no money really said I'd starve and figure it out. I take him home. Guy comes back Thumper was adopted by me. The employee was so happy because she said she can't deny him to buy the rabbit to let his snake eat him it's a pet store. I couldn't afford him but gifted him to the employees sister who always wanted him. They couldn't stop saying I was his angel and it made me feel I served my purpose.

I too, had a similar experience when getting my first Holland lops. Living in a rural farm community, I had no exposure to the world of rabbits as pampered indoor pets vs. the "rabbits as livestock" mentality. Because of these diverse philosophies, there is quite a discrepancy in how rabbits are cared for, especially depending on where one lives. I appreciate your willingness to share your story in a way that doesn't shame those who have had similar experiences. Best wishes to you and Cinnabun. 🥰

I got Billy from a bad breeder too. I took one look at where he was living and HAD to take him home. He had mites, he's got digestive issues, he was sold to me at 4 weeks of age. He's now got additional needs because of where he came from. It's heartbreaking but he's living his best life now and that makes me happy 😊

Pinworms and mites are very common in bunny's,gpigs and other small critters that need hay. The fur mites are also called static, wood, hay mites. Ivermectin is a simple easy fix for all those pest (under $10 ), they will return if u don't take precautions. U can freeze the hay prior to using and kill them off before using it. It's always a good idea to use ivermectin as soon as u adopt bc you'll find the same issues with the vast majority of places. It's not always that they are bad It's that they are unaware it has to be maintained with prevention

I drove four hours to pick up my bunny from a bad breeder, when I got her she was in a car in a small wire cage in the middle of summer for 5 hours, the breeder came out of her job to open her truck to my little tulip girl she was $65 and I gave her $80 because I didn’t have change and needed her with me asap. Tulip will be 2 in March 🌷❤️

I had a very similar experience. I live in Thailand and people aren't super educated on proper rabbit care, I hadn't (and still haven't) been able to find any place to adopt rabbits, so I as well had to buy my rabbits. My first rabbit was from a farm, and I remember when I went to pick him up, the owner just walked over to the gate and handed me the rabbit, and emailed the instructions, and that's it. He was also only 6 weeks when I got him (I was surprised to know that as well). My little boy got sick about 3 days (diarrhea) after arriving to my place, and I took him to the vet and found out that he was stressed as well as had worms. Luckily that cleared up quickly after the visit to the vet. I've been watching your vids and reading so much about rabbit care since, and now I have 2 rabbits (a little girl, my rabbits are now neutered and spayed) and are such happy cuties. We learn new things every day, but you are right, sometimes you don't know everything even if you do all your researches, sometimes you still make mistakes, but it's important to constantly educate yourself and read and learn about them every single day, and how to improve their lives.

I had SUCH a similar experience with my breeder. Sadly in the town I was living in, there were none in the shelter so I had to turn to a breeder. My breeder was feeding my bunno FRUITS AND VEGGIES as early as 4 weeks old and it made whims sick. She also kept him in a wire cage with barely any hay and a water bottle instead of a bowl. Luckily, I found Morgan's channel and she helped educate me! Over a year later, my bunny is so happy and healthy. He is free roamed, just bonded with his sister, and has an entire room to play in! Thank you Morgan for ALL that you do. I know we can't save every single bunny, but we can certainly save some.

I had an extremely similar experience. I got my rabbit from a local breeder who kept their rabbits in a run-down barn outside. When I arrived, they also basically threw my rabbit at me (who had peed all over himself because he was so scared). They didn’t even provide care information or allow me to see where my rabbit had been staying! And when I got him home I noticed he was sneezing and sniffling a lot - come to find out, he had snuffles😢 after hundreds of dollars and several months later, he’s finally better!!! But since then I’ve learned about a local rabbit rescue and I’ve been trying to recommend them to people when they ask me about rabbits!

It’s ok! I got my boy from a bad breeder too. He, luckily, didn’t have any medical problems, but the care “information” that she gave us was terrible. this video made me cry. I got my bun Yuki at 4 weeks!! yes, 4 weeks from a Pet Store. He has ear issues. Luckily it's not head tilt and I caught it early but I was completely lost. I bought a super small cage for him and then upgraded to a bigger cage than to a c&c grid and now he uses his playpen for sleeping at then free roam all day. I didn't know bunnies were in shelters, I was going to go with a breeder and then went to a pet store and just fell in love. I was shocked to find out 8 weeks is the min a bun should be to be away from mom. I made a lot of mistakes. Huge ones. I just hope my bunny forgives me. luckily I found your channel and other bunny channels that have helped me a lot!

We have a very similar story. Wanted a bunny for so long… and did a ton of research. Put a deposit down with who we thought was an ethical breeder. Communication with the breeder was awesome until the day before we were going to pick her up. Pick her up, we were just handed our bunny. Drove home… and a couple of days later she started making a funny sound. Took her to the vet to find out that she is SEVERELY Sick with chronic pneumonia. Vet didn’t even think she would make it through the night. She’s on antibiotics twice a day for the rest of her life and is not eligible to be spayed. We have learned a LOT from our experience.

i did do a fair amount of research before i got my own bunny. however, no rabbit adoption centers were nearby, and i unfortunately had to go to a pet shop. when filling out the sheets, they told me that he was 8 weeks old, but when i checked the nametag on the carrier it said october 26 when i got him on december 5. i knew it wasnt right, but i was already on my way home and already paid. on the care sheet, it showed hutches and cages as a good habitat for your rabbits, which is untrue. it also showed triangle litter boxes, small plastic water bottles, and treats with lots of ingredients.

I'm so grateful for your channel and others educating people on how to better care for our bunny friends. It helped me correct how I was keeping Snuggles and now I have a happy bun who hum hums, binkys and does little twirls and zoomies like bunny ballet. Maybe it's not about where they come from because if everyone shuns the baby bunnies or bunnies in general in poor conditions those poor little creatures will never get out of those conditions into homes with owners who can take good care of them and change their lives for the better. It's important to try to reason with others in patience and kindness about how rabbits should be taken care of properly- many people don't even realise and don't know any different- often pet stores etc promote cages and are kept in them so everyone just gets one with a cage not intending to harm the rabbit, they just do it in ignorance. I can only hope more people consider whether they should be getting a rabbit in the first place as well because they require so much time and care. They are very social and affectionate and some need more care than others. Our bunny Snuggles tends to get unwell sometimes and requires more care than other bunnies but I am grateful to the Lord that we are able to give him the extra time and care he needs at those times. We have made so many mistakes with his care because we knew nothing about free roaming or that so many rabbit foods and treats can be bad for them. I have failed Snuggles which makes me cry but I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to change and do things better and he is really happy now. Rabbits are such a wonderful little companions. I tell Snuggles he's God's beautiful little boy - he's so loving and forgiving and friendly. They really give you so much joy and Snuggles is one of the greatest blessings in my life. God bless you Morgan for your informative videoes which have helped us improve Snuggles' life and care and sending a "bunny huddle" (cuddle) all the way from Australia for cinnabun

We have identical stories! I got my bun from a woman who breeds them like crazy (I didn’t know this at the time) and I was the same way with getting him: I decided I wanted a bunny, did some research, and figured out they would be a good pet for my lifestyle so I wanted one THEN. I did t want to wait. When I brought him home he seemed like a really healthy bun, but the girl I got him from was really reluctant to talk to me about him, and I later found out that she didn’t even know that bunnies need an 80% hay diet. She thought that just eating pellets was good enough 🤯 you also helped me figure out that he had pinworms by teaching me to be diligent about checking his poop! #adoptdontshop

I got my first lion head rabbit Thumper from an ok breeder she gave us lots of info but never handled him or let him get much exercise because she had SO MANY BUNNIES. He turned out to be great but doesn’t like to be handled or touched much by anybody but me because I spend so much one on one time with him (Although it could just be his personality). But my second bunny (Basil) my aunt sent to my mom through instagram because someone had thrown her on the side of the road and she had been placed into a rescue near me so we decided to adopt her. And honestly she is the sweetest thing to everybody, especially little kids and it’s adorable. She came litter trained and they spayed her for free. It was probably the best thing to happen to me because after getting her I worked on bonding her with Thumper (they ended up not be compatible even though I worked on it every day 2-5 hours a day for 6 months) and it forced me learn more and spend time with them which I used to think was an option, and now I have to everyday or I’m doing myself and my buns a disservice. So although both my bunnies are amazing the adoption process was definitely a better experience in the long run.

I got Blossom and Thumper from an auction. I wanted rabbits my whole life but kept being told "no" well back in 2018 I was FINALLY told "yes" and my mom called her brother who got them at an auction for me. My mom told me that I saved their lives since most people get rabbits for their dogs to hunt and kill for rabbit hunting season.

She lived until 8 (close to 9) years old.
Thanks to my parent and that bunny I kept having bunnies in my life. Honestly the most fun, and interesting creatures for me.
Current bunny is from someone who wanted to find another home as she could not get along with her sister anymore.
She is now free roaming for 2,5 years in my place and gives me kisses too.

I cannot thank you enough for sharing this. I had two pet rabbits growing up (both at separate times over the course of ten years & was a sophomore in college when my second one passed away) who also came from bad breeders. I grew up in and still live in a rural area. So, here it's much more common for rabbits to be treated as livestock than it is to have house bunnies. My first rabbit literally came from a pet store that has since been shut down. My second came from an acquaintance who offered one to my family after my first passed unexpectedly. We assumed because we knew them that their rabbits were living decently. While they did take pretty decent care of the rabbits, they still lived in very small cages in a large barn with a number of rabbits that I'm very uncomfortable knowing now that I'm older. Not sharing any of this to get a reaction from anyone, but am sharing to raise a bit of awareness on properly vetting where your pets are coming from. Thankfully, now that I'm an adult I've since learned about rabbits free roaming and if not free roaming, having entire rooms to themselves instead of in cages. And my next rabbit(s) will be coming from a reputable nearby rescue. Rabbits have also always been one of my favorite animals and I'm biased in saying they can make wonderful pets if you do your research and know what you're getting into for the sake of a rabbit.

I got my rabbit Pumpkin at the pet store that I actually work at, we had someone bring in these bunnies that were half lop and half harlequin and we always check animals that we get in over before we take them and they looked good. Funny enough I actually wanted his brother first but my parents hadn’t said yes yet and I was told by my manager to try and down sell him but eventually a family came in for 4-H and got him and there wasn’t much I could do so my manager had me hold the other bunnies and I knew that I couldn’t get his sister because she was just the most scared rabbit I have ever seen and I didn’t want to freak her out by handling her. So I held him and he actually fell asleep in my arms and that is when I knew that it would be him. So I went home and explained thoroughly that I had everything I needed and would be paying for everything and I got a yes that night and he came home the next day. He definitely looked more like a lip when he was little but now it is hard to tell what he looks like lol.

I live in a rural area. My bun was living was living with his siblings in a big plastic tote with a few holes poked in it while his mom was in an outside hutch! The breeders were people who trying to teach their kids "responsibility". They sold him to me for $5 and no instructions for care. I'm so glad I got him, but so worried for the other bunnies living their 😢

I’ve only ever “bought” one rabbit and his name was Nicol. I was 12 at the time and even though I read every book I could find on rabbits at the time the information wasn’t good and no one talked about adoption or free roaming. So we came across this whole in the wall pet store and I paid $30 for him and took him home in a Jelly Belly box. He was a good boy and very sweet but when I took him for his first vet appointment we found problems too. Like he was too young and had lice and worms. He also got a diagnosis later in life for E.. cuniculi. Now this condition is caused by a parasite living in the rabbits brain and when the population gets to high it causes the rabbit to have seizures. Now with meditation it can be managed and they can be bonded with another rabbit with the same condition but it is super contagious to other rabbits. They still live long lives and do all the rabbit things but people don’t like adopting “sick/disabled” rabbits. I have since dedicated the rest of my adoptions to rabbits with this condition, because they need love too.

I got my first two rabbits from my neighbors who had over 40 living outside in a pen. The bucks were constantly getting out and inbreeding with their children or siblings and my two girls came from the last pure litter. They were all going to be eaten so I saved one. I wasn't at all prepared for my rabbits and made them mistake of asking for a rabbit and a hutch. My parents made the mistake of getting a rabbit for my lil sis too who was like 4 or 5. She decided she didn't like like rabbit because she wasn't cuddly and I had to take her otherwise she would be sent back so I was left with two. I also got them unsexed and luckily they were both female. They have at least an 8x8 foot pen inside a shed with a hutch inside and multiple levels(cause they enjoy on top of the hutch more than inside for some reason) and the pen connects to an outdoor 10x12 foot pen where they can dig and run. And it's safe too! I recently rescued a rabbit who was given to me as a female from a lady who had a farm and was breeding angoras and flemish giants together. My rabbit ended up funky (Short haired and average sized with a mane around his neck and a floofy head instead of huge and wooly all over )My poor little boy had a few days left to live and I saved him too. I found out three days ago that he is not female so now I am going to be moving him to my mom's house and having him be free roamed. Also my two girls may be pregnant so that's chaos. Sadly for my other two living inside is not an option because my parents believe rabbits are farm animals that belong outside (I don't agree with that). I now need to rename my male rabbit (in my profile picture) so If you have suggestions pls help. My best name so far is Winston.

Transparency is great and it take real courage to tell your mistake and learn from it. But one thing of note, in your video of “how to get a rabbit” you said one of the pro of getting a bunny is that you get to raise her since she was 8 weeks old, but in this video you said you found out your bun was only 6 weeks old when you got her. That was contradictory and straight up lie to your viewer.
You can’t use the excuse of being scared and not ready to tell your full story in “how to get a rabbit” video hence lying, because you do have a choice of not lying by just saying you build a bond with her when she was really young. Your “transparency” is still quite control in what exactly you want to put out in this channel and your own narrative which leave a bad taste overall in this current video. But your channel do have some great info on bunny care and I appreciate your contributing to the bunny community.

    • @HinaKuran

I agree, even with the clarification on example of ethical breeder that she pin. On “how to get a bunny” it gave off a huge impression that she got the bun from an ethical breeder. The problem doesn’t lie in the fact of how she got pet, it’s how she narrate that video that make her seem like the perfect bun mom who had done tons of research and got her bun from an ethical breeder. That video supported both breeding and adoption. Yet in this video, the narrative shift hugely in favour of adoption (which is good given the large number of rabbit in shelter), but it just make her previous video so contradicting. Viewers seem to have taken this narrative of her “transparency”, “honesty”, learning from her mistake to praise her up. Yet negating the fact she straight up lie and was withholding information that would make her look like a bad bun mom had she been totally honest in the “how to get a bunny video”.
Every bun owner has make mistakes and learn from it which is fine but I get the vibe that perhaps she wanted this picture perfect and esthetic vibe on her brand before hence she didn’t want to show a negative side that would discredit her?

Too late. I made my mistakes. Though my bunnies are healthy and they were 3 months old when I got them. I still suspect I got them from a bad breeder. I wanted angora rabbits and they are hard to find even though my search area was almost a quarter of my country (Finland).

~Hello, Morgan & adorable Cinnabun! It makes me very sad and a little irritated that there are so many unethical breeders then ethical out there. I am a breeder myself and make sure my babies have proper care and loving good homes at 8 weeks! 6 weeks is just way to soon.... I do think more bunnies need to be rescued from shelters, even though I still think ethical breeders shouldn't be shunned by the rabbit community. Having a bunny housed outside will give a bunny a high chance of pinworms and furmites....I'm glad Cinnabun hasn't had that for awhile. Thank you for sharing such good information! 💕

This was a fabulous video, especially for new bunny owners. They are a lot of horrible rabbit breeders out there. I only ever bought one rabbit, I think she was $35.00 (in my eyes she was definitely worth more than that). The rest of my rabbits were rescued or fostered and of course I kept them! haha It's hard to say no. 🥰 Cinnabun is so lucky to have you.
