Reading this book changed my life. 20 years ago my first business had failed. I was working the graveyard shift at a boring site. To pass the time I read this book and completely understodd my mistakes, not just with my failed business but in so many other areas of my life. I started afresh and never looked back. I am extremely grateful to Mr Covey 🙏

    In other words:
    1) Do what you can
    2) Aim to create a legacy
    3) Prioritise
    4) To win is not to defeat
    5) To act is not to achieve
    6) Co-operate, don't fight
    7) Preparation reduces work
Not exactly profound, but less stupid than most advice of the genre.

Neither books nor lectures ever help anyone. Self help literature has been around for centuries and has failed to bring about change in the conduct of humans. In fact things are getting worse. The best thing is to stop reading the books or watching the lectures and actually get to real life work. Take a look at my post and decide to stop being an asshole, You would do great.

So the message stating stopping being asshole applies to me as well as rest of us who wish to improve things. Dishonesty purging I mean stopping being asshole. check out the link that would help. "i have to" means you won't do it. At least not now. It's similar to a lazy person saying "I should do more stuff."
It's a step up from "I can't do that" but it's still not useful to you.
Say "I choose to change that" or "I will change that" or "'I'm changing that now", or even say nothing at all, and just do the damn thing. Write up strategies to help you stop complaining and implement it. it needs to be a firm statement. Otherwise you don't really want it, you're just saying you should because others are telling you. But your inner core must be firm about it, in order to change.

I'm a 75 year old disabled Army veteran living with 2 cats in my house near downtown Austin, TX. My crazy and rewarding life experiences have enabled me to come up with a relatively simple plan that, if enacted, would provide wonderful benefits to Austin, to Texas, and even affect the world. I keep delaying putting the plan into action because (1) I don't need more money, (2) it will require a lot of effort especially at first, and (3) I need to find someone to do it with in order to make the creation process fun. Your cartoons may have helped push me in the right direction. I will see. Regardless -- thank you.

This is a splendid review. I read a comparable book that deeply moved me. "The Art of Saying No: Mastering Boundaries for a Fulfilling Life" by Samuel Dawn

The prices didn’t rise because of lack of price controls, it’s because of constant government inflation of the dollar. On the bright side the actual effort and time required to make a product and as such the actual price of the product has gotten much lower.

Great video! Haven't read the book but wonder how win win and synergy interact and what the exact difference is. The apple tree example and one helping the other seems to be win win as well. Hope people want to explain this me!

Excellent summary! Personally, habit 5 has done a lot for me... it is a lot more profound and meaningful than the example you give here. In particular, the example you depict here is rather anonymous, almost shallow. This habit is very powerful in established relationships.

Learning is not really a true interpretation of sharpening the saw. The last habit of highly effectives people is perhaps the most important because it involves the process of acquiring knowledge, sharing it and then living it,
To optimize this process, self aware is critical for us to become and to be.
If you are wondering why the seven habits haven’t significantly impacted on your maybe it’s because you are not following this process. Peace!
