- Pretend this came out in August. Because the Summer of Ultra rolls on! What better show to follow Total Drama and end off the summer than one of the shows that failed to live up to the huge expectations set by Total Drama. Of all the Fresh TV shows aired in the US, it’s the only to give up airing the episodes half way through its run. Maybe that’s why so few people talk about it… or even remember it. The thing about the "haha boys kissing is a joke" era is that it turns every guy in their shows bi. I'm convinced Reef, Broseph, and Johnny are all bi but they're all accidentally convincing each other it's just straight guys being straight.
This is also Owen’s whole deal in Total Drama. He’s the only guy consistently fawning over Justin and Alejandro, and it’s supposed to be “oh, he’s acting like the girls, isn’t that wacky?”
Instead, it just makes it clear that Owen’s type is buff tan dudes. There’s no other way to interpret it, other than that. Why do Justin and Alejandro’s charms work on Owen and not on any of the other guys? Cus he’s bi, duh.
They had this in 6teen too Jonesy and Jude kissed each other once lol
I don't get why it automatically turns every character bi? Especially if they're growing teens. Some unknowingly, sure, but why all? lol
@@washedblue it's mainly a joke, but the idea is the writers want to laugh at boys who show interest in girly things or kissing boys, which makes them give their own boy characters moments of liking girly things or kissing boys. It's not sincere but it is a version of queer-coding (subtly expressing that a character is queer)

stoked was definitely my favourite show over td at one point. something about the summer vibes and the chill shenanigans between friends is so warm and fuzzy and fun to watch. and I know he’s kidding mostly but how they all rip into each other and cause chaos makes the dynamics better
shoutout to everyone else who watched abc3 as a kid and remembers the summer marathons where they played nothing but stoked all day for what felt like weeks

As a buildabear employee i will say that the shorts coming off the wipeout costume makes sense, all of our mascot suits have multiple outfits that you can put on over them.

usually restaurants in australia have lunch and dinner service, with the place being closed between like 3pm and 5pm. so maybe that’s why they got extra free time?? that’s my theory
Would make sense, but the show is set in Canada. Despite the fact that I genuinely think it was so much more popular here in Australia that I could see people mistaking it for an Australian show.

@@sevenoxia7199 Australian native TV kinda sucks, but damn they imported some good shit too. I remember watching Sword Art Online pretty much uncensored which was my jam back then. There was one scene missing (from my understanding) from Madoka Magika which was basically just people swearing a lot on a train. Plus we got uncensored Total Drama.
ABC3 was great. Shame the rest of Aussie TV was *shit.*

Pretty sure you're thinking of Syked. In an alternate reality that's what this show was called and it was skaters instead.
I have this show mixed in my head with another surfing show, Blue Water High, which must have been showing around the same time for me. So it was very disconcerting to realise that there was no episode where one of the dudes gets lost in a forest and tries to be a survivalist like his mother's book says but then he realises his mother is a hack and has to be picked up by the teacher character.
...... excuse me but what? You'll have to repeat that bc im having some trouble comprehending that statement. And where can I watch this insane show?

I haven’t watched it since I was like 12 but it aired in the 2000s and was such a staple for aussie kid tv. I’m pretty sure it was like a school that the best surfers got to go to and they’d go in competitions and live together and have drama etc. I remember loving it, the eps are on youtube if you look up ‘blue water high’ I’m gonna deep dive into it lol

Grew up criminally obsesssed with tdi and stoked, but didn’t have cable tv so would have to watch it on RUclips. BUT every year, on vacation the cabin tv had cable and would play Stoked on ABC3 nonstop. Was hyped for that every year

I actually liked Grojband a ton it was one of my favorite music focused shows over the summer. And i would recommend putting each of the songs of the episode in a tier list.

I was always a big fan of Stoked, I grew up watching it but for some reason I wasn’t exposed to 6teen until a few years ago. Can’t tell if it just wasn’t a big show in Australia or its because I was born in 2005
2001 Aussie baby here. I saw both around the same time on ABC3 (Now ABCME 🤢). I don't remember when but I think it was around when it was first airing(Stoked). I could be super wrong
from memory (born 2000s) 6teen aired earlier than tdi or around the same time and was in a later slot on abc3, usually after the news came on and my parents took over the tv lol so I rarely watched it too
They aired Stoked so fucking much in Australia. That shit was the bomb for me.

i knew nothing at all about the show going into this but now i feel like i know everything. “between sand and sea not him and he” got a big laugh out of me and the athena cameo was such a nice surprise !! happy to be a new subscriber❤

Ripper is a character in Stoked who loves to fart, and there’s a guy in the 2023 Total Drama season who shares the same name and mannerism
This guy's so real for constantly mentioning the show's "vibe". The show truly does have an "atmosphere" or "ambiance" to it... not necessarily tropical, maybe slightly tropical... it's got a very specific northwest coast vibe to it. Warm summery adolescent memories... as someone who is also 23, I feel a great deal of nostalgia rewatching this show.
This show is very underrated. We have TDI, and 6 Teen but I feel like hardly no talks about this! 🏄

I lived in a time where tv was basically what we have in streaming sites now. Shows all the way back to the 60's up to 2010's. People who complain about tv were too damn young to appreciate how god damn much variety there truly was.

This used to be my favourite show omg, i actually rewatched it recently for the nostalgia factor and genuinely enjoyed it all these years later! Audibly went 'omg yes' when I saw this in my recommended, you've made my day man
I'll tell you one place where Stoked was huge, Australia. ABC3 ran that shit so often that every upload now online has the logo of it.

for the first segment of the video i had no idea what stoked was because i dont think it aired in the uk, but after you showed the shark it brought back all the memories of having to find the episodes on RUclips, back when you could still watch tv shows and anime here, and other streaming sites.

When I was young, I always saw Johnny as a “grown up” in a way that the other kids weren’t in my eyes. Which made it extra weird that he not only had a crush on but was basically obsessed with Emma. I’m sure they’re close in age, but it felt weird at the time!
