    Wow that was amazing. I live about a five minute walk from Arnold Grove. You’re by far the best Beatles location video maker on RUclips. To watch someone walk the streets I walk every day of my life and visit Beatles locations with such knowledge and passion really gets me emotional. And the strawberry fields exhibition was amazing, so relaxing watching that with the classical guitar version of the song. Hopefully there’ll be a part 3 very soon. Take care mate.

      Wow mate...what a nice thing to say! It must be amazing for you to walk around those streets on a daily basis knowing the Beatles also kicked about there....especially in their youth! Stay tuned for more Beatles walkabouts. I'm off to London again soon as I've found a few more :-)

I stopped at Durness where John spent some of his holidays as a child and revisited on the ill-fated trip in 1969. They have established a small memorial garden. When I get around to visiting Scotland again (mostly for my photography channel: ruclips.net/channel/UC9bGudyt0OZBzUVDb2Fhwuwfeatured) then I'll be compiling "Beatles Scotland" locations - although I think for the most part it's just about their early days concerts!

      Yep definitely worth a visit. I’ve not done the Beatle story or the Fab Four can your or even the Magical Mystery Bus tour (the Liverpool one) and I’m sure they are excellent, but the freedom of the Strawberry Fields exhibition is quite liberating. As I mentioned in my video it was quite emotional. I think for me, it’s knowing John was murdered and so his already troubled life was cut so short without him being able to grow old gracefully, and the exhibition brought that home to me!

      Then you were at a loss for words seeing the handwritten lyrics. Somehow that triggers a memory of something I read once that while filming the movie 'Help', the lads tended to party all night in the Bahamas. As it story read, Paul suddenly had a vision of world peace and quickly wrote it down...but the next morning it was all gibberish. Ever hear that one?

    On 15th December, the Sunday after John's death, there was a memorial concert held outside St George's Hall in Liverpool. I was there as a 17 year old standing on the steps in the cold from around 11.00 with another 30,000 others while bands played Beatle songs. There was a little bother when a lot of girls were overcome with it all and pushed forward into the band and the music stopped to be replaced with recorded music over the sound system. 30,000 of us singing along to Give Peace a Chance. There was another memorial taking place in New York's Central Park at the same time and at 7.00pm (2.00pm New York time) a ten minute silence was held simultaneously. After that I made my way down Lime Street singing Maggie May, to the railway station and went home, the hundred miles or so to the West Midlands. It was my first big event and was organised by Sam Leach who would book Liverpool bands in the early 60s. Theres very little about this memorial event to be found now and I've never seen any photos of it. I know what Tudor Smith means by early Beatledom all being in black and white. Even in 1980, to me as a teenager, grown up with colour telly in the dayglo 70s, it all looked as distant in time as WW2 and 1930s Pathe news reels, as if it had happened in an alternative reality despite it all happening less than 20 years before.

      I was in Central Park in NYC for John's memorial. And I will never forget those ten minutes of silence. Imagine how odd it was to not hear a sound during those minutes. Not a siren, not a horn, nothing except a news helicopter high overhead. And even that was only for a moment. I am getting a bit emotional about it because not in anyone's imagination could there have been such a scene.
      Here's something else amazing that I just remembered. It was a beautiful sunny day with no wind before and during. Five minutes after the memorial ended a wild blizzard came through. The wind driven snow was so heavy that you could barely see across the street. And then, five minutes later, it ended and the Sun came back out and it was a glorious sunny day again. I know it sounds like fiction but I swear it's true.

      Yep. Back in sunny (literally) Kent! The Salvation Army have done a wonderful job with the exhibition. They were scheduled to open in 2020 but the pandemic halted that. Now that it's fully open it's going to be a definite "must see" location for Beatles tourists. I think they will reap the benefits of their hard work for years to come.
      Only seeing the gates and nothing else is a little like seeing the Abbey Road crossing, but not being allowed to go into the studios. Understandable as it's still a thriving business and they wouldn't want tourists trapsing around the studio. Now that we can go into the grounds of Strawberry Fields and also see the exhibition, it brings it more to life!

    John would climb over the back wall of Strawberry Field on Vale Road, it’s ‘nothing but a housing estate’ now! Of course when John was young, the gardens of Strawberry Field were much larger, and the size began to decrease in the 1970s due to a lack of funding to ensure upkeep of the land; Liverpool Council bought the land to develop on it, into what it is now. Vale Road is directly to the side of 251 Menlove Ave, so John really would have been able to see the house from his tree.

    You could have stopped at the Grapes Pub on Matthew Street. That pub served alcohol. the Grapes was across the street from the Cavern which did not sell alcohol on soda. The Beatles made many visits to the Grapes Pub.

    James Maybrick - I always stay in the Aigburth area, near Sefton Park & Lark Lane (lots of good eating & pints there!). Ironically, his wife Florence was tried & found guilty of killing James. The trial was deemed a bit dodgy, her death sentenced commuted & she was eventually released.

      @TudorSmith  Год назад

      Yes a tragic twist of fate there for Florence. The diaries are much debunked although Bruce Robinson spins a good yarn pointing to James Maybrick’s brother Michael as the writer of the diaries and also being the ripper. Will we ever know?
