Some twenty years ago or more ago I was attending a training in Liverpool. To get to it I walked past John's house and noticed the footpath going in the direction I needed to go, so I took it, hoping all would be alright. After I walked a certain amount, something told me very strongly that both John & Paul used this pathway to meet up, I just knew it, an amazing feeling.

There’s a video of Paul telling a story of John walking up Booker Avenue and being short sighted said to Paul that people were playing cards in the garden on the corner. Turns out it was a large Nativity set, being Christmas time.😂😂
Yes I was thinking about that. I think of a night they went via Booker Avenue but during daylight they went along the footpath next to the golf course. You wouldn't want to walk that footpath by the golf course at night.
Remarkable that you were conveniently born in the same year as John and Paul! And impressive when you mentioned that the video didn't show it was SUNNY, and the video appeared to tear itself in half, and suddenly look sunnier! Interesting that you mention someone has to be dead for 20 years, to get a Blue Plaque! So it is unlikely that you (at 67), or me, (at 71) will outlive Paul Mc.Cartney by 20 years, and see a Blue Plaque! I suppose they wait to see if someone STAYS famous after their death. Wow! Love this walk. It's a great idea for for those of us living so far away. In 1978, I was able to scrounge some money together to go to England (from Toronto). We bought Brit Rail passes and had one week to travel from London all over England and Scotland, sleeping on trains. Of course in London we saw Abbey Road and Paul's House on Cavendish Avenue from St. John's Wood station. In Liverpool, we had a whole day (lol) to explore the city, via public transit, to find Beatle places that I read about in various Beatles' biographies. One of these places was Menlove Avenue and John's house. Also, the Cavern (which at the time was a pile of rubble with a plaque of an angel, NEMS store (bought the Magical Mystery EP there), Lime Street station, Royal Liver Building. At that time there were no tours or businesses to help us hungry Beatles fans, from all over the world, see the important Beatles places we could only read about. I love this idea and have subscribed with the hope to see more walks.

Thank you for that, I enjoyed it. Particularly good that you mentioned the Dezo Hoffman photos at the golf course and showed them. The Ford Anglia car was George's I believe. The only thing is that in those days it wouldn't have been Allerton Manor Golf course but Allerton municipal golf links. It was owned by the council. It's only in relatively recent years that it's been sold off to private business. Also, slightly surprised that you didn't mention the bus stop on Mather Avenue at the top of Forthlin Road. That would have been were Paul got the 86 bus each day to the Liverpool Institute and I think it's commonly understood that when Paul wrote those lyrics about getting a bus in A Day in The Life he was thinking about the 86 bus. Paul has a bit of a thing about buses. He was asked in the early days of Beatlemania if there was anything he missed about his pre fame life and he said 'getting the bus'. He also writes about a bus journey in the song On My Way To Work on the 'New' album. In that I think he was remembering his short period as an electrical apprentice at a firm called Massey and Coggins in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool. Think he would have got the 86 to Penny Lane for that one and then get on another bus from there, the 4 or 5 I think.
Would have been the number 4 to Alfred Street and a short walk to Bridge Street on Spotforth Road or as spotty road as we knew it, and to think George only lived 2 streets away where the bus stop was. It was quicker to stay on the 86 to Smithdown Cemetry and cut through Webster Road, Strangley enough Beryl Marsden the singer also lived near where he worked as did a few others.
He likes to use the train now. He uses the train that goes through Ashford in Kent to London regularly. I used to live in Ashford. He occasionally used the cinema too. Most people there ignore him and let him get on with his day so he can just use the train unbothered.
@@strawberryfields1149 Only slightly but everyone changes after leaving school, Liverpool has different accents from area to area. Lot's of talk that Paul had died and was replaced but I was never keen on the Beatles to see any changes but have seen many comments about it though.

Today Is The 14th of march. Just two weeks ago I was there, enjoying The four houses, so Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, Saint Peter Church. Then The Cavern. It was awsome. From Guadalajara, México to London AND Liverpool.
Im from Liverpool and it seems similar to most cities.....sections of grimness and social deprivation aligned with more surburban districts, greenery and nice scenic walks. It has had a terrible reputation in UK popular culture over decades but a lot of these characterisations will come from people who have never been near the city. Great video. Thank you.
Same. I think it might also be all the gritty black and white photos from the documentaries. I'd be interested to see Ringo's neighborhood, though. I was watching this and thinking, this looks like my suburban town in New Jersey!
Yeah I have always heard that Ringo was from a "rough an' tough" hood in Liverpool, and that the other 3 were from more middle -class areas, with John being from an upper middle class home...

😊Rubbish! I went to Notre Dame along Mather Avenue on 72 bus from 1951-55. Nice suburb. Went out with Peter Shotton, he lived in Vale Road. JLs school friend (although we never met). He bought me a record for my 18th birthday. I'm 84 this month. Grandma lived in Woolton Village.
Both of these two houses are important tourist attractions, being well and sensitively managed by the National Trust with interiors restored to how they would have been in the early 60s. Visitors can only arrive on booked tours by minibuses to prevent overcrowding and traffic problems for local residents. Interestingly, there were a lot of complaints from more conservative members of the National Trust that the two properties should be run by them, thinking it outside the remit of such an organisation, as they considered the properties to have little historical or architectural importance. All I can say is how very wrong I think these people were. Visiting the houses is a very moving experience. I'm so glad they were preserved so well by such a responsible organisation for the public to see.
Yoko Ono bought Mimis house and restored it and gifted it to the National Trust. They didn't want it at first, but it's a very popular location for visitors these days.
I did the walk over the golf course many years ago...Then travelling the states I met a Beatle fan from Norway at B.B Kings grave...We got chatting and he had done the same golf course walk as me...and done the Hamburg doorway...There's a lot of us about!
Mather was flooded the other week same time as Queens Drive, I saw you standing outside the police training college in the video, that's the short cut i used to use from my sisters house to woolton

Jeff, one day I'll walk those pathways! Great video!
I was in Liverpool in December, I spent a month in England. It's very exciting to be in the land of the Beatles. And get to know their homes and also at the Cavern Club.
Oh, thank you for this walk down the streets and paths Paul & John took to each others homes. I kept envisioning Paul's sweet steps as i watched . The neighborhoods are not unlike some we have here in Cleveland. I live back in my childhood home which is red brick. I compared it to Pauls home in my mind many times as a young Beatle fan in the early 1960's, and still do today. To think that so much fame would come from such simple beginnings....
I had the pleasure of touring these sights several years back. i actually took the Beatle Bus option first and followed it up with the National Trust tour the following day. They did not entirely overlap plus the latter one was in a small bus and included closely guided tours of John and Paul’s houses. If you have the time and money, I’m sure you wouldn’t regret it. I was a most fortunate fellow. At Strawberry Fields, we happened to run into Alan Williams who was the band’s manager who booked their engagement in Hamburg. He was most friendly, and his passing since reminded me of his role in their careers.
Looking at the video again I would imagine Paul would have had a bike and took the Donkey path at the top of Heath Rd, it was much wider, the golf course narrows at Menlove Ave or did and a bike would have done that in 10 mins, we all had bikes them days and they wasn't poor not to have had, the path you took is where the new monastry is built. brings you out near where the remand home was. All these videos bring back fond memories of my youth. Do you remember Clarke Gardens and the animals?
The road over the golf course ran to Menlove Ave past the Rose garden and the Radio Merseyside transmitter. That is where the Hoffman photos were taken. It is closed now. It would have been the cycle route. I know the track you mean. It was a lovely place to grow up. I remember the little zoo. Imagine a council paying for that now! Haapy days.
The first house Paul lived in was Western Ave in Speke before they moved to Forthlin Rd. When you came out of the path way my parents flat was on your right. The second block Rydecroft. Overlooking the golf course. On the top floor. Great view of the Mersey and the Welsh hills beyond.
I used to look out over that range from the golf course, or Camp hill and long to be there. Especially when they got snowed on, Moel Famau I think. The views from those top floors must be stunning.
I've been on the MM Tour bus in Liverpool several times and not once was told of Julia Lennon getting killed across the street from the Lennon home. That must have been a real nightmare for young John.Thank you so much for the splendid tour.
thanks. that was great. fab. I read that Paul's mom, a midwife, was offered council housing due to her duties. What a lovely part of Liverpool and such a natural walk along the foot path.
I remember most of the houses on Mather from the fire station to Heath Rd was allocated to the police and known as police houses, A lot has changed along that road, Tecos got built, the school got demolished and houses built, even the poor elm trees dissapeared gradually
I made the journey a few days ago with a friend and fellow beatles nut. Mendips to Forthlin Road, along this very alleyway. The most direct route… We were struck and excited to be literally following in their footsteps, pre fame, pre all that. Supposedly McCartney first came up with Michelle walking along this alleyway…!?

I really like the curious piece of music you’ve chosen at the end, & appreciate you putting the name of it and credit to the writer. Quite eerie. Thanks for doing the walk and sharing this it put me in a creative mood I’m off now to work on songs of my own. Cheers from Wildwood New Jersey!
I e Heard- Paul speak about cutting through the golf course on his way to Johns’ I always imagined him walking on the course itself. I didn’t know about the footpaths. Thanks for that. Must have been really dark at night.
Thank you so much. It is amazing because I have been thinking about it a lot. I wanted to know about this path John and Paul used to take to meet each other. Just yesterday I thought about it. And here is this great video showing us this important place for the Beatles History.
Thanks. A rare experience to see that trip in such detail. No doubt a young Paul and a young John would have walked faster and ran some of the way, I know I was always running a lot at that age, not so much now.

Thank you, that's filled in some gaps in my knowledge. It's interesting you mention Dezo Hoffman and the photo he took on which the Beatles statues at the Pier Head were modelled. I didn't know he took that photograph. I believe they were staying at the Hotel President during one of their first visits to London. I always think John is looking across the road at the (then) Russell Hotel, which was a bit more opulent, and wondering why they weren't staying there.
I stayed at the hotel across from the President and had no idea that I was on the same street as they once were. But I guess you could say that about many places In London Liverpool or New York.
Thank you for taking that long walk from Pauls to Johns! What beautiful scenery. I had no idea Liverpool was so nice. I wonder if either one of them rode their bike or took a bus when they were old enough.

Thanks for that info. I might do a video on buses. I know Paul and John used to get the 5 into town so might just mix them all up one day
Would have been the number 4 to Alfred Street and a short walk to Bridge Street on Spotforth Road or as spotty road as we knew it, and to think George only lived 2 streets away where the bus stop was.
@@NormanLongdo you see a difference between Paul 1966 and 67 onwards? Have you ever listened carefully to the accent as a local?
@@strawberryfields1149 Only slightly but everyone changes after leaving school, Liverpool has different accents from area to area. Lot's of talk that Paul had died and was replaced but I was never keen on the Beatles to see any changes but have seen many comments about it though.
Thanks, Jeff this was awesome. God bless you and all the Beatles fans. “I know I’m not the only one!”
Lovely green neighbourhood. Thanks. James from 🇦🇺
Many thanks for this. We've visited both houses and this completes the adventure. 🎉
I did the bus tour a few weeks ago and it was brilliant, now I've seen your walk I'll do that next time I'm in Liverpool. Great informative video thanks
What amazing history Liverpool has got and its a fascinating insight into where john and Paul must have walked many many times
Today Is The 14th of march. Just two weeks ago I was there, enjoying The four houses, so Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, Saint Peter Church. Then The Cavern. It was awsome. From Guadalajara, México to London AND Liverpool.
Such a pretty area.
Somehow, I always believed Liverpool to be a dark, grim, and unattractive city. But here it looks like a lovely place.
Thank you.
You can thank the media for perpetuating their southern prejudices. X
Yeah, I always imagined them living in a more urban environment.
For the first few seconds I thought Paul McCartney was speaking!
I hired him in 😆
That's our scouse accents!
Thank you,visited the"boy's" houses last year!!Penny Lane,Cavern.
My niece organised trip for me at 76yrs old. I became 18 AGAIN bless you Angela 💖🙏🫶
Thank you this McCartney -Lennon story ❤❤❤❤ 2 Musical Genius & 4 Lads who changed the world Love from Asia. We flew thousands of miles to visit Liverpool five years ago. Would have gone on this historic walk if we had seen it 😃😄
Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it.
This man should be called The Walking Philosopher - I love his reflections as he walks along.
Happy Birthday Irene
And many more. Alway had a thing for Notre Dame uniform. Blue and pink in my day
Happy Birthday fellow Beatles fan. Have you read Pete Shottons' book: "John Lennon--In My Life." yet? It's one very honest book.

@@Jeff1photohi Jeff a line from John's " happiness is a warm gun"
"A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National Trust"!
I did the walk over the golf course many years ago...Then travelling the states I met a Beatle fan from Norway at B.B Kings grave...We got chatting and he had done the same golf course walk as me...and done the Hamburg doorway...There's a lot of us about!
Thank you. This is wonderful. 💟☮️
Thank you so much for sharing!! I imagine both John and Paul carrying their guitar 🎸 ❤

Hey Jude 👋
Thank you!! Very nice walk, beautiful place!!!❤❤❤
Great Video Jeff. I don't live too far from Paul's house, Georges house in Speke and John's House!
What's the area like these days, isit still as tough as back in their day?
Mather was flooded the other week same time as Queens Drive, I saw you standing outside the police training college in the video, that's the short cut i used to use from my sisters house to woolton
Wow, that area is really beautiful ....
I was on tour Beatles tour bus in June 2023 . So saw Johns house, not allowed down Pauls rd now. Fantastic experience . Sang Pennylane loudly along with Cousins 😃 Stayed at Hard Days Night Hotel 👍Went to Cavern Club. .Born in UK went back to U.k . After 45yrs . Now back in NZ but lots of great memories & photo's . Jeff thank you so much for the excellent walk & talk about the early life of John & Paul 👏👏👏
Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I enjoyed it very much!
That was quite a treck for you so thankyou for that. Very enjoyable.🇬🇧
THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this!!! I was hoping for someone to do this!
…and you have successfully bridge the gap of space & time. Thank you 🙏 I’m now a subscriber cheers from Houston 🇺🇸
Great video. I worked out and walked the same route with my Son a few years ago thinkin that this would be the route John took to Paul's house and vice versa. Good to see some confirmation.
Jeff, one day I'll walk those pathways! Great video!
Nice walk on a nice day 😀
@@Jeff1photo yes sir! Keep capturing your Liverpool for the world!! Thank you.
Somehow this is a very fascinating journey. Thank you for posting it.
what magic! i just discovered your video on youtube and find out i did this walk on your same day (21 august 2023) 😱
Spooky 😆
I was in Liverpool in December, I spent a month in England. It's very exciting to be in the land of the Beatles. And get to know their homes and also at the Cavern Club.
Hi Jeff, great video. l do a lot of cycling around this area, so many footpaths. Thanks for another very informative video 👍
Really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing.😊
Housing in Liverpool in those times was quite nice, trees and space around with verges.Unlike todays crammed boxes.
Liverpool is beautiful. J love the Beatles will never get there. So thanks again.
Lovely video. Thank you
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for doing it.
Haapy days.
Yes Clarks Gardens and the little zoo
We really can't get enough of em two great songwriting duo uh?♥️
Thank you Jeff for this thoughtful video. I visited both homes last September and this was a much enjoyed link to the both of them. Job well done!
I bet the view is amazing
Many thanks Jeff.
mi ha fatto emozionare GRAZIE ANCORA
Diamo il benvenuto al nostro amico italiano al Woolton di Liverpool, la vera casa dei Beatles, per gentile concessione di Jeff.
John and Paul used to write music in the evening, so it must’ve been a dark pathway back home for John
Maybe they used a bus between both houses?
Great update as always Jeff
Thanks 👍
Thank you for this It makes me feel like I’m there a bit.
Brilliant, good sir. Thank you!
Yeah she was, I read that too. I think they moved about a bit with her job.
I remember most of the houses on Mather from the fire station to Heath Rd was allocated to the police and known as police houses, A lot has changed along that road, Tecos got built, the school got demolished and houses built, even the poor elm trees dissapeared gradually
Thanks so much for doing this. Very interesting.
I love the insight on Dezo Hoffman. Very interesting background!
Wonderful video, thank you ...
Thank you too!
Muita arborização em liverpool isso deve ter sido inspirador nas músicas dos Beatles

I didn't know that, thank you.
Thank you xxx
it really does make you think (commented by many already) the actually origins of "Long and winding" there are so many suggestions out there that have been put out by people but THIS must be the one, great video thank you
Looks like a well-to-do area. Beautiful 2 storey houses, well kept gardens and many late model cars.
Walked it during my visit last August...
To think that they did make such an effort to see each other. I suppose it was the strength of the music they made.
They lived so close to each other. Extraordinary.
Thanks❤
You're welcome 😊
I wonder if Paul would’ve carried a guitar or bass guitar with him when he did those walks to Lennon’s home.
Would John have done the walk to Paul’s house as Aunt Mimi didn’t like Paul?
@@donna25871 Didn't know that. Have to wonder what it was that she didn't like about him.
Probably that he came from a council house. Mimi was a bit posh I believe.
Great video thank you. I work in Strawberry Field as a volunteer so it's good to have some information....Jackie 🙂
Thank you so much. It is amazing because I have been thinking about it a lot. I wanted to know about this path John and Paul used to take to meet each other. Just yesterday I thought about it. And here is this great video showing us this important place for the Beatles History.
Pleased you enjoyed it.
you have a really well-mannered humble intimate style of film story telling. quite like it.
Thanks. A rare experience to see that trip in such detail. No doubt a young Paul and a young John would have walked faster and ran some of the way, I know I was always running a lot at that age, not so much now.
I ran back all the way to my car... no I didn't really 😆
Amazing vid. Thank you
Wow that's so lovely and nostalgic, I've been to both of their houses a long time ago on the magical mystery tour bus , But I'm aiming to go back very soon because I love everything about Liverpool , I'm a massive Reds supporter, as well a life long fan of my fav band The Beatles as well, I'm new to your channel and I am glad to follow you and comment on your great videos of my fav city as Many Thanks I really appreciated it ya new follower Rodders 🥁🎸🇬🇧🎸🎸 28:15

I read that they both liked travelling by bus, something they couldn't do after they became famous.
Perfect! Thank you!
so, you were born a month after they met. I wouldn't be born until a half a year later. thx for the stroll, mate
Lovely. Thank you.
Paul also lived briefly in broadway avenue wallasey
Thanks for that, I believe they lived in a few areas during his childhood.
Would love to know where the Nativity display that John saw was?
Paul did an interview with Conan O'Brien a while back.
He said it was the posh bungalow on the corner of Booker Avenue.
Jeff, that's a good idea you have . That is, making a better camera, for instance, omitting glare, and sharper with clarity. Thanks for the lovely walk and information.
Top Guy, very enjoyable!
