They don’t, but they also have anti supe weaponry. In the comics when Homelander tries to storm the white house and take it over with an army of supes all the other supes who aren’t durable like Homelander get torn to shreds by the military, completely destroying Homelanders attempt to take the white house.
I mean the vast majority of supes would be destructible by conventional weapons and they really didn’t know where to start on trying to get a countermeasure for Homelander
The real life US military could honestly take supes on and win. Air superiority is key here, if they can take out the few flying superheroes, there’s nothing stopping them from bombarding the grounded ones into a fine pulp. Let’s go over this. Homelander is the fastest supe in the air by a large margin, his fastest feats are ~1,500 mph; marginally faster than a fully armed F-35. Not only does the US have significantly faster interceptors(SR-71, F-15E, etc.), but all in-service US jets are armed with missiles capable of over the horizon kills. Considering that homelander has no way to detect these jets from over the horizon, and has no defense from radar technology, there’s nothing stopping the Air Force from just trailing him and launching heavy ordinance at him all day long; he has to sleep sometime. Edit: for context, the SR-71 Blackbird can move nearly twice as fast as Homelander.
Most superhero stories wouldn’t work if the military was competent,it has to be nerfed. Like they could’ve probably killed darkseid, doomsday, thanos, but they wouldn’t have a plot
But how would they harm them? Like Butcher said even a nuke wouldn't take out Soldier Boy. Maybe two would, but that means killing millions of innocents in the process, which isn't really a win. Not to mention someone like the shapeshifter or translucent could sneak anyway and kill anyone, and that can't account for super they don't know about who could infiltrate their ranks, like how Neuman did by becoming a high ranking Politician.
