some more tricks: delete: A cut: S Cut left from playhead: Q cut right from playhead: W 5 frames back: 1 1 frame back: 2 1 frame froward: 3 5 frames forward: 4 I do the mouse exactly the same but i had to use a logitech G hub macro because premiere didnt recognise my mouse clicks so when im in premiere, that mouse click is "L" also: Theres this setting for playback replay or whatever its called which you have to google and mess something up in settings playback bla bla. what it does is that if you press "SHIFT + SPACE" it will play normally but when you press space again it doesnt just pause but it goes back to where you started to watch. i use this ALOT. always used it in vegas and missed it in premiere.
Great info! I love the purple filter tip. I had to laugh at "who uses the 'L' key?". I might be archaic but 'J, K, L' and setting ins and outs with 'I, O' are foundational and were the first keys I learned to use on any NLE to make a three point edit. Obviously, everyone should do what works best for them but if you learn to get comfortable with those keybinds they're extremely helpful!
Solid tips. The proxy editing is game-changing when trying to edit 4K (or even 1080p with many layers). Also helps with using a lot less RAM, which NLVE's can be terrible with.
Great advice. Warning to those who need to use proxies, this balloons the size of the projects so if you have an older laptop, you will still likely need a decent Hard Drive size I use a Sony A7S3 camera and the 120fps footage and high bit footage chokes in my iMac but when I do proxies my projects get massive lol multiple hundreds of gigabytes while editing
Keep your fingers on J, K, & L. Rewind, Stop, & Play. Editing 101. Proxies are great for the workflow but you need a good amount of storage space since you're doubling the amount of media files. Good vid
Bro have just watched all your videos. They very calculated 😊,I think you are going to blow up soon.Trust me. Am a video Editor too but building a faceless channel on the side.
He's just saying to have everything on-hand and ready to use, whatever way works for you. Loading them into a project may be easier than having them hidden away. One issue with the asset browser is most people tend to be terrible at maintaining proper folder structures that are well organised and kept up-to-date over time. If you just load all your assets into the project, then based on how you use them group them into areas on the timeline, it can be an efficient way to get stuff done.
Question for Adobe people - I use Davinci and always have my fingers on top of J K L and have built all my custom shortcuts around these keys. Where do Adobers cluster their hotkeys??
Great video. I want to clarify about the Wall-E factory thing. Once you create a new project with the factory sequence - do you load it up as the default project for every new project you do for this client? Do you import the "factory" project into a new project? What is your work flow from there?
I didn't really understand the first tip. I guess that's if you've edited for a while and you have a library of things you can put in? I'm using the Blender VSE, and I think it's got proxies built in, but not 100% sure they're automatic.
hey flick can you suggest me what videos i should be editing to practice on? i suppose a lot of new editors must be facing this issue...i really have no idea how should i practice video editing and where to get videos from other than stock videos like, if you could help out with that it would be great help. great video as always
Love your question, here is what you do: 1. Figure out what style you want to edit (gaming, vlog, finance, reaction etc.) (just go with what you want to do the most right now) 2. Create your own footage. Record playing a video game, making a vlog etc. You don't have to upload it, it can just be for yourself or your friends. This makes it a thousand times more fun to edit. 3. Replicate, replicate, replicate. Find similar edits you want to edit your footage like, and search on youtube on how to do certain elements. For example: "How to do a fire backdrop effect" if you see that in the edit. And then play around with it to make it your own :)
Hey bro, I've been working as a video editor and motion designer for over 5 years. I'm Brazilian, but I'm expanding and working internationally, editing in English. I created this RUclips channel with the goal of making videos, getting new clients, and also teaching others a bit about this profession that changed my life. However, lately, I haven't been able to land many jobs, even though I'm well-recognized in Brazil. Starting from scratch in a place where I'm not known is harder. Anyway, I loved the video!
do we need a domain to outreach in the beginning of our journey or we can do it with our professional looking email which describes that we are video editors.
Hey Flick, just finished watching the other videos on your channel and I would say its maybe the most solid and practical advice regarding editing out there. The Purple filter is an especially attractive idea I'm excited to implement into my workflow. One subject many editors including myself struggle with as they start out is "how do I determine my value and set a fair price?" I would love to hear your perspective on this topic, thanks.
Great Video. Question on the creating proxies for editing? Do you need to tell Premiere to render the original footage (not the proxy), and do you need to delete the proxies when you have completed your project? Thanks for the info.
Thats very very good and legit tips. Could you share what animations do you use? Or maybe recommend some packs please? That wall-e machine is super cool idea. I literally came to the same conclusion, but mine was not as robust and categorized as yours.
I did not expect such high-quality tips from this video at all. This is so well thought and put together. I am definitely going to use all these tips from now. Thanks a lot
I'm a noob in editing but I don't think you explained what software or app you use to edit which is pretty important to know, you showed the icons, but I have no idea what these are.
I thought u were gonna tell me something cliché and generic like upgrading my pc or something but u proved me wrong, brother you're a legend
If you have been editing for a long time, you know the information he is giving here is *golden*
that button L trick saves me
Man. this 6-minute trick gonna save 6 years of my RUclips journey. Thanks a lot
some more tricks:
delete: A
cut: S
Cut left from playhead: Q
cut right from playhead: W
5 frames back: 1
1 frame back: 2
1 frame froward: 3
5 frames forward: 4
I do the mouse exactly the same but i had to use a logitech G hub macro because premiere didnt recognise my mouse clicks so when im in premiere, that mouse click is "L"
also:
Theres this setting for playback replay or whatever its called which you have to google and mess something up in settings playback bla bla. what it does is that if you press "SHIFT + SPACE" it will play normally but when you press space again it doesnt just pause but it goes back to where you started to watch. i use this ALOT. always used it in vegas and missed it in premiere.
cut s is awesome
I have customised a lot of shortcuts and I use C. Shift + arrow keys work best for frame movements
That purple filter thing is actually life changing
Anti-Distraction filter. Or the Kick-in-the-butt filter.
DUDE. the purple filter thing is genius. you literally called me out in my procrastination by looking back at what i've edited.
My tip for fast edit : First put music
when i discovered proxies recently I was like AH HELL NA THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN MISSING FRRRRRRR
So much sauce that I had to sub, thank you bro 🔥
That purple filter is exactly what I need lol. Good stuff
Straight to the point, presentation format, not over-produced. This is perfect. Been editing for the past 8 years and these tips are great.
That's the first time that i've seen an editing tips video that was actually helpful, thank you Flick
I love your channel! Thank you! ✨
Cool tips! Thanks!
I'm glad I watched the whole video.
Really solid tips!!

i truly love the wall-e concept! I'm planning to apply it on my next videos. thank you for the tips
Man, the purple filter is so smart. Gonna try it. I wanna know more about your career
Phenomenal! Thank you!!
Is there an industry term for the “Wall E Method?”
I wanna learn how to do this in depth!
A ton of these methods are so meditative and mindful in their approach; this was very cool Flick. Great tips, and great presentation.
Just discovered your channel few days ago already can see the potential in your work . 💪🏻 keep it up big bro
Best video i’ve seen in years. Lots of value in 6min. Congrats bro 👏🏻
actually useful. well structured. like the simplicity.
I"ll go deeper on rewatching optimization. Waiting for more vids.

"You’re teaching us how to edit videos, but after watching your content, I’m not sure if I should take you seriously.😂

Feeling very lucky for that

The purple filter sounds GOLDEN. Trying it tomorrow 😅
Funny enough most of these tips I already use but thanks to your video going back to basics always a most! Thanks man!
Great idea, Especially the Wall-E Effect

Am a video Editor too but building a faceless channel on the side.
Bro you saved my life!
Really good. Quality.
Of all the tips, the purple one is the best👑
To edit fast I find it crucial to use every shortcut available. Why don’t you use more shortcuts? It’s much faster than the mouse. Keep it up man ✌🏻
2:11 cant you just... have folders basically ☠ with the assets in them and import

Can you make a video on how to get clients
Really nice tips!
This is how small RUclipsrs grow fast. Much respect for this video

Boa sorte.

Which one is better for editing
Premiere pro or davinci resolve??

Great Video. Question on the creating proxies for editing? Do you need to tell Premiere to render the original footage (not the proxy), and do you need to delete the proxies when you have completed your project? Thanks for the info.
Premiere automatically renders without the proxies (the real footage). You do not need to delete the proxies afterwards, so it's all super convenient
that proxy part really helped and the L short cut
this video is great
Great advice.
That's so genius

which app u use to edit
There should be premade files like the in the first tip somewhere?
Damn I really be rewatching my edits. 😂 Thanks for the tips.
This is like a school project presentation lol ( i luv it )
I did not expect such high-quality tips from this video at all. This is so well thought and put together. I am definitely going to use all these tips from now. Thanks a lot

I already do this and it still takes me days
Thank you, earned a sub!
which software do you use to make such presentation?
It feels illegal to know these for free😂
Great video. Short and straight to the point. No fluff. Please what software do you use for the slides and whiteboard
You should have a lot more subs.
Add this to your previous video's end card!
Do you have a mentorship?
Hi, can you look at my edits and tell me if im ready to work with clients?
