廣東話我有錢意思係我手頭鬆動，所以不能說 I am rich (我很富有)，應該說 I am well-off。Rich 意思是富有，通常指外人可以看見的，譬如俗語話住洋樓，養番狗，揸靚車。還有 Wealthy 意思是很有銀，資產豐厚，但外人可能看不見 (和 rich 有小分別)。Affluent = 收入富裕，小康。Well-off, well-heeled = 手頭鬆動，生活富裕 (但不一定是很富有)。Filthy rich, Stinking rich = 富得漏油，或一身銅臭味。I am loaded, I am rolling in cash = 我很叠水。Financially comfortable = 財政安穩，衣食無憂。
Hey, I've just donated $10 millions to charity. I don't have kids and other dependencies; and I am rich. Not a big deal for me.
After my wife divorced me, she left me with a 2007 junk car and a small condo which is not paid off. I am poor; you should pay for my meal this time.
Nothing wrong with saying it as it is. The words "rich" are "poor" are in the dictionary. Use them. Mostly people who don't really understand English think they should teach others how to speak. Try reading Hemingway and Steinbeck.

@@MelodyTam How do you say 感謝補充? Perhaps "I appreciate your insight"? I see lots of online teachers insisting on "proper usage" of English expressions; maybe they should teache ESL. English is perhaps the most polymorphic language because of its widespread adoptation all over the world (me: studied 7 languages including many years of Latin and Greek). In America, we say I am taking a vacation. In Europe, my friend says he is taking a holiday. Brits "have a hump" when you don't use proper English; Americans are "ticked off", instead. How do you anwser when someone asks you "Do you mind if I borrow this chair?" Do you say yes or no? My sister (Yale Math and Music) often says "I a'int listening to this nonsense" to make a sarcastic point. So, what is proper English, grammar notwithstanding? Regardless (or irregardless) of your nationality, what is more important, syntax or semantics? Jim Morrison's old song: "I'm gonna love you, til the stars fall from sky, for you and I". Shouldn't it be "for you and me"? But then it won't rhyme with sky.
Melody's video series are to teach native Cantonese speakers how to express their thoughts in simple basic English. If viewers are after advanced language concepts, they should look elsewhere.

I lived in Toronto for twenty years, including studying. When I was working, I was the only Hong Konger and I spoke English day and night. I don't know where you learned English, what's the problem with I am poor, even I am broke, or you go first (another video). On the contrary, I rarely hear the English you teach.

You speak English well as you have been living in Toronto for 20 years. I came to Toronto in 2006, now living in Toronto for 18 years. Unfortunately my English is not improved. I am retired and I don't need to speak or write English in my daily activities. So sad.
However, I can still speak and understand German very well. I am a Chinese from Hong Kong. Ich bin arm (I am poor).
我很窮意思通常係我無錢，所以應該說 I am broke。Poor = 貧窮。Poverty-stricken = 窮困潦倒。Strapped for cash, short of money，tight on money = 手頭緊，冇水 (不一定是貧窮)。Broke, penniless = 窮到燶。
I am broke = I completely run out of money =/= i am poor
Poor (貧窮) 和 broke (冇錢)有很大分別，poor係因為長期失業或低入息所以生活貪困冇錢。Broke冇錢只是財政狀况有問題，譬如因爲揮霍無度，賭博以至入不敷支而冇錢。Poor people are always broke, but people who are broke may not be poor people.

In Uk, it’s common to say somebody is rich
It’s okay to use the word “rich” to describe a person, but it could mean something else if you say “that’s rich”
喺英國用rich, 冇問題，常用，直接了當形容有錢。
英國人講嘢都比較婉轉，所以經常用 well off.
Affluent, wealthy, well-off, loaded, “comfortable”… all different connotations

根據民調，75%美國人認為須要有至少$500,000才算comfortable(財政安穩)。但富有(wealthy)須要至少$2,500,000。

冇錢最常用的說法是 I 'm skint
