Thank you brother! I may not be lucky enough to land my first client in Upwork yet, but I have a strong feeling that this tips you mentioned will help me a lot! I had immediately optimized my profile while watching! 😄 I'll keep in mind those other things you mentioned especially about the proposal. I really appreciate what you taught here bro, thank you brother!
very helpful video Chad. As a Python Web scraping and Bot developer, i have to struggle a lot to get my first job on upwork i realy appreciate your effort.
Excellent video. Really helpful. Anyone litreally needs to understand these things from client' perspective & you really made these things clear. Thanks
@freelanceFamilyman thank you for your great advice. I already updated my profile and cover letter to make it stand out. I noticed you said at 10:16 that without actual work performed on Upwork one cannot have a portfolio. It's not entirely correct. One can create a portfolio regardless of being new to the platform. Admittedly it's easier when the freelancer offers visual services such as videos or graphics. Although, Nancy P in your example could have uploaded recommendation letters for her SEO work to create a portfolio.
I don't believe I said it like that, if so it was a mistake or I wasn't clear. I usually say to beginners that they do not need actual work on upwork to have a portfolio, they can pull from any experience they've had outside upwork to create an initial portfolio.
Thank you, Family Man, nice and informative video! Do you have an idea how the boosted proposals would appear? Are these "Best match" proposals boosted or are they marked differently?
This video is insanely helpful. One quick question, how does your proposal look if you don't meet their preferred qualifications? Is it even worth applying to those?
I logged into my client account, and yeah, proposals that don't meet the criteria are put in another tab. My personal stance now is that if I see a job posting with a red exclamation point (meaning I don't meet the preferred qualifications), I don't bother.@@itsmogamal
Ecxellent stuff. I need to know something. Can you please tell me how my proposal is seen to the client when I am sending from an agency? Is there any difference in agency and individual account when proposals appear to client?
That's the first time am seeing it from a client's account. Interesting indeed but i am a bit discouraged by upwork... the connect bidding are increasing, it's been two years since am trying on upwork but havn't been sucessfull at all :(
Hi Chad, any advice for someone who is just starting out on Upwork, Im a new social media manager with no experience . I have built my portfolio. May you please make a video on how to get your first client with no experience? Thank you.
check out this video I did previously that answers that exact question: ruclips.net/video/RpPTXQzFiVY/видео.html Also if you want more in depth training, you should take a look at the new course I just launched that's created exactly for beginner freelancers trying to find clients on upwork with no experience: freelancefamilyman.com/upwork-course
@FreelanceFamilyMan I have one question, since I am new to UpWork (haven't had a client yet) I was wondering should I attach any files (work samples or something) with my cover letter when sending a proposal? I am asking about that because I have (for the time being) two projects in my portfolio on my profile.
It's just Upwork trying to pick a profile that is most relevant, not necessarily the most qualified freelancer, so your job title and description matching closely to the job post helps you get best match
Wow! This is alot of value.I have been on the platform for sometime but I have never thought of imagining it from the client's side. Thanks for this!! I will be glad if you can give me some insights to this. I have a profile as a React|ReactNative developer but has gotten just one job.I am trying to switch to a technical writer profile because I have more samples in that field. What is your advice ?
If you have more samples as a technical writer than I would say you need to try that out, you'll be able to get clients easier with whatever you have a stronger portfolio of
Yes you can link to outside places that show more of your portfolio as long as you communicate with the potential client on upwork if they decide to interview you
Hey Chad, really loving the videos. One thing I’m wondering about is why I’m not getting any job invites? I have just recently moved from the rising talent badge to a 100% JSS and still have yet to be “invited” to a job. What do you think is going on? I followed all your tips by making my specialty really clear and niche, and my profile description is on point. If you have any thoughts that’d be great. Thanks
If you send your profile through this form I'll be able to take a deeper look and give you insights into why you're not getting invited: freelancefamilyman.com/contact What you do as a freelancer can affect it, your job title, many things
Hi I am new to upwork and I was able to get a client after I joined last week as a part time, my question is can I work with two different clients while I still have on going contract with the first client?
Honestly when I've experimented with it, I haven't noticed any difference in getting more invites then when I wasn't using it so I've just left mine off. Not worth the connects in my opinion, use those connects to send more proposals instead
Hey man, I am a Top-Rated freelancer on Upwork. A few days back, I added a new portfolio to my profile, changed a title name (Just added a single keyword), and also updated my profile description. Later on, I saw my Top-Rated badge got disappeared for probably 4 days. I just want to confirm if I change/update my profile description, is there a chance of my badge getting disappeared again? or does it ever happen to you as well?
That would have been a glitch, updating your profile and description should never cause your top rated badge to go away, I would talk to upwork support about that if it happens again because probably some error on their end.
Questions are displayed before the actual cover letter because those questions matter to clients more than anything you could write in the cover letter (assuming they're thought out questions, not just the standard ones suggested by Upwork)
The first guy how he quoted 24 years of SEO. Did SEO existed in late 90s lol. Google didnt had so many crieterias back then..SEO becam more popular around 2005😂😂
Freelancers in the community section say that something changed at Upwork this 2023 where proposals are not even being seen by clients, what is true about that from your perspective as client?
All proposals sent by a freelancer will go to the client's proposal tab but that doesn't mean they'll open it and read it. If they have 50 proposals, they may just scan through, look at your profile and the summary of your stats and then decide whether to read your proposal or not. So in that case, your proposal might not be ready if your main stats or first sentence of the profile description is not impressive enough but your proposal isn't being sent to their feed.
It dosnt even matter how my proposal look like, i can be nice i can be polite, i can show them portfolio or do the task they ask as a proof of my quality work. I can even make them see the jesus. But they dont even click my proposal because there is no upwork experiences. It is so sad how upwork push up experienced freelancers and push down no experienced guys. It should be the otherway because the small guys need help not the big one.
Since I've also hired freelancers on upwork, I can tell you that Upwork actually does push profiles to the top that are brand new freelancers if everything is optimized well
This video is super valuable for Upwork freelancers. Thank you so much!

Please, what does the best match badge mean in the proposals section?
It's just Upwork trying to pick a profile that is most relevant, not necessarily the most qualified freelancer, so your job title and description matching closely to the job post helps you get best match

I initially did at the beta stage. Now, I don't bid.
