      @@marcbloom7462 Oh yeah, Bubba Ho-Tep is awesome albeit slightly more serious yet brilliant. Don Coscarelli should be taken more serious by the movie biz since his movies are iconic (if a bit confusing when it comes to Phantasm II-V due to all the jumping between scenes). He also wrote "John Dies at the End" and we were waiting for the sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep: "Bubba Nosferatu - Curse of the She-Vampires" which was cut down by Bruce Campbell in 2017:
      ""I killed it, I killed it for me. I told the creators that I didn’t want to dance around it anymore. I feel that the first one was a nice little gem and you don’t have to make a sequel for everything. Don Coscarelli, god bless him, go make it. You know, get somebody else. They had Ron Perlman at one point. Knock yourself out. I don’t want to stop you from making this, but I don’t want to [do it]. So, that one I’m just going to let go."
      During his book tour (when he said this in an interview) he did seem quite bitter at the time; not about/against Don, just about the movie industry as a whole that seemingly didn't take him seriously as well as being so connected to Ash by his fans that he felt trapped by the character/typecasting. He's done quite a lot of tv shows including the 3 season Ash vs Evil Dead show which starts off a bit slow but picks up and feels like the Ash we love. There are also upcoming movies including the comedy/horror "Black Friday", a drama/thriller about Nixon called "18 1/2" where Bruce plays Richard Nixon.
      Bruce Campbell made a movie in 2007 named "My Name is Bruce" which is well worth a watch: "Mistaken for his character Ash from the 'Evil Dead' trilogy, Bruce Campbell is forced to fight a real monster in a small Oregon town."

  • @GuukanKitsune
    @GuukanKitsune 3 года назад +54

    Fun Fact: The series went EXACTLY the way Sam Raimi wanted it to. The first movie was straight horror. The second movie was horror with comedic elements. The third movie was comedy with horror elements. It's meant to represent Ash's sanity slipping away over the course of the series and him becoming too jaded and traumatized by what he's experienced to be scared anymore. Since we experience the story from his perspective, just like him, it stops being scary and starts becoming darkly funny as he hides from the trauma in humor and his ability to be afraid kind of goes away.

    I absolutely agree with Emily that the S-Mart ending is superior. And it's not even close. It's not only one of the best sequences in this movie, but it's one of the most quintessential "Ash" sequences in the entire lore with some of the best one-liners. (It's a toss-up between this scene and "Who's laughing now?" from Evil Dead 2.) This is an instance in which the more mainstream studio ending was the right call.

    • @Rocket1377
      @Rocket1377 3 года назад +7

      Absolutely. The dark ending just doesn't fit the comedic tone they were going for in this movie.
      I would love them to release a version of this film where they edit both endings together. Ash falls asleep in the cave, has the nightmare, then wakes up in the present day and goes back to his job at S-Mart. It could easily be done using the existing footage.

Joxer from Xena is also in this movie and he is like the producers brother or something. Bruce Campbell is the Prince of Thieves Otolocus in Xena/Hercules. Funny to see the similarities between this and Xena/Hercules.

    The tv show Ash vs Evil Dead picks up 30 years later and continues the adventures of Ash Williams and his 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale. (It's also Uncle Ben's car in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, he cameos his car in everything he directs and even lends it to friends, it was also in The Big Lebowski watching cross-dressers destroy The Dude's car.)
    Fun Fact: The goth/prog rock band Covered In Spiders wrote a song called Chainsaw For A Hand as a tribute to Ash.

    Welcome back, and what a film to come back to. It's legitimately my fav film.
    If you wanted a slight different comedy reaction, I can suggest guest house paradiso, it's silly and slap stick type humour with physical violence thrown in, the fight scene in the kitchen has be howling every time 😂 or any of the bottom live shows, they are film length but is a live show and is hilarious

    Do you see were Ash is making the gunpowder and the old man holds the small pouch of gunpowder to the candle and Ash moves the old mans hand from the candle? That looks exactly like it's for the "The Two Towers" scenes in 2002 with Saruman and Wormtongue. I wonder if Peter Jackson got that from Army from Darkness?

    The whole Franchise is extremely well done I think and highly consistent in it's quality, but I think Army of Darkness might just be perfect (and surprisingly family friendly for an R-Rated Franchise) :D It is also one of the very rare cases were the cinematic version and the directors cut are equally good and offer different point of views for a watch, though the cinematic version fits perfectly with the amazing series!
    I think this might be the video were you too laughed the most, that speaks for itself I think. Happy Eastergreetings from Germany!

      I think they're puppets moved in a way to invoke stop motion. That used to be the technique to do monsters on all the old fantasy and legend and adventure movies, when they didn't put a guy in a suit. Today it's used in animation, see Nightmare before Christmas and the Wallace and Gromit movies.

    • @Lonestar1430

      The way to animate the skeletons in this film is a kind of tribute to the skeletons of the 1963 film Jason and the Argonauts.

    Happy to see you two back, and Bruce is really such a great actor and Sam Raimi might not be one of the best directors around but he understands the tone a movie should have, there are directors that make a horror comedy but always go more towards one or the other, but he really knows how to nail the perfect balance of both, with a sprinkle of batshit craziness in between.

    I'm watching this like three years late, but... I have to be that guy and say that, while Danny Elfman did work on this movie, he only created one piece of music for it, which is 'The March of the Dead'. The rest of the music is done by Joseph Loduca, who did the music for the first two films, the TV show in 2015, and the main theme for the 2020 video game.

    I worked at a video store with over 10,000 movies twenty years ago. My employee picks movie shelf had this movie on it. I don't know how many times I recommended this movie, but I recommended it to almost everyone. Those same customers always wanted recommendations after watching Army of Darkness. This movie used to be my all time favorite movie, until it became very popular, and it still is one my favorite movies. It's just weird how many people know it today, compared to back then.
    I remember watching a making of this movie, before it came out, and it had the last fight scene where Good Ash and Evil Ash. This was back in 91 or 92. And, that fight scene really wanted me to watch that movie. I think it was on TBS or TNT or some channel like. The cellar scene from Evil Dead was recorded in my neck of the woods in Marshall, Michigan, which I didn't know until years later.
    One of my other all time favorite movies is Commando, I think it might have the most kills in any movie or something like that, but still has some of the best one liners.

    Ay welcome back! And what a movie to come back with! So much fun. As a kid I think this was the first one I saw of the three so it has stuck with me the most. I also like the S-Mart ending. For me it makes sense that he'd still get the words wrong; yeah he got back to his own time, but now the Deadites have followed him. And, in his own way, he is a king.
