For anyone who's followed Eric's medical struggles over the last few years, you know just how impressive his performance was in this video.
Can you explain what affected his balance? I don't really follow him so don't know
@@KunalKishanMehta Seemingly random overnight, he went deaf in one ear and simultaneously got tinnitus. This damaged his vestibular system, which affects balance among other things. Doctors had no idea when he would be able to walk normally again, and also ruled out any possibility of him ever climbing again. You can see him trip a couple of times in this video, but overall he's made amazing progress, defying odds.

@@eurekaflowsdid he give any name for that stuff? I also got impaired hearing and strong tinnitus on one side from one day to the other, completely randomly. Got some exams and a diagnosis that it's still not confirmed. I think my balance is ok though

This is truly I think one of the best ideas not only for (I agree) what should be a climbing game with the guys at the gym, but these videos -- the chillest and most fun to watch climbing videos. I was disappointed when the video ended!
You picking up Eric when he asked for a power spot was a great show of strength
Something fun for a video would be trying out a game called 'a difficult game in climbing' on steam. Sheer determination and effort like real rock climbing. Maybe real world techniques like dynos and precision hands can be put to use in the game. Check it out.

Magnus giving this shout out to Eric for paving the way for all the other RUclipsrs is just magnificent. Makes you realize how much has happened in the last few years. And, of course, great to see that Eric is still at it.
Well done Eric! It takes a lot of bravery to show your weaknesses to thousands, if not millions, of people. Also, the fact that he is still climbing shows how passionate he is.
Can you explain what happened to him? I don't really follow him so am not aware?

@@amitpotdar2102 it's 20 minutes long, only offers feeling burned out as an explanation, and doesn't at all touch upon why his balance would be affected and why he's lost so much of his fitness.
@@theKashConnoisseur , look for the one from 4 months ago "I have been gone for 2 years and I'm explaining why". Its just under 9 minutes and he explains his health issue right at the start.
@@rosspearse1928 Thanks for the info, that one does a lot more explaining. I'm still not entirely clear what caused his hearing and balance issues, but maybe he's not entirely sure, either. It definitely sounds like a ruptured eardrum, but I'm not sure if he was dealing with ear infections or if he suffered a mechanical injury or what.
Nikken climbs so graceful and technical, truly a master in movement.
Yeah, he's like a cat! Especially on that slab problem, the coolest climb in the whole video for me.

this is completely ridiculous. Emil and nikken are so strong and yet Magnus is still completely next level! just really shows how phenomenally strong he is!
I was just gonna say this too! its unreal watching their videos and seeing how strong they are, then comparing that to this video, then comparing this to some Magnus videos where he has a session with people that climb even harder than him
Thanks for explaining, Magnus, that Eric was the first climbing RUclipsr. I’m not a climber, and only watch climbing vids now because YT suggested your channel more than a year ago and I was hooked. It was great to hear that tribute to the person who did it first ❤
Little known fact: Magnus uses chalk as washing powder.
Chalk up to your armpits helps with those tricky elbow holds.

I met Erik in a gym in Stockholm. I cannot stress enough how sincere and genuinely nice that man is. He is so welcoming, and honestly the most down to earth person I've met through climbing. The fact he's even climbing after what happened is ridiculous; I'm so impressed. Watching him climb has always motivated me, but seeing him in this video has motivated me even more. I'm really glad he is able to do the kilter board etc. I would actually love to see a video on that!

yep just keep at it Eric you've had a little vacation nothing that you could have prevented, but everyone loved you before and still do, just keep chugging you'll get it.
Just thinking about how strong the entire Swedish crew by itself is, makes Magnus' strength so much more impressive.
They're back! A reunion years in the making! Also want to mention, I really love those side shots of the problems. It really shows the steepness and quality of the holds, which is usually hard to see when you're viewing the wall face on.

Eric holds and projects all the values I attribute to climbing, you can say he's the type of climber that surpasses the physical performance with his integrity. He's exactly the type of climber I aspire to be, but also also the person I hope to become. Thank you Eric for everything, you are the absolute best!
