Did you nerd out for 100 hours to get the brush spin?
I know I’m late, but to answer about the brush helicopter guy, it’s a pen twirling trick.
I can do it for a few rotations with a pen… look up pen twirling or pen tricks and you’ll see, you can also see drummers do it with drumsticks.
You can learn to do it with basically anything with the right balance, but pens and drumsticks are easiest and it’s always easier with a longer object. His skill is really impressive because the brush isn’t balanced and he’s climbing too!

To all the routesetters, PLEASE avoid setting stuff like the last clip, ESPECIALLY in slab climbing.
Had exactly the same fall due to a slip on a slab climb, and on the way down my toes hooked a hold.
Result: talar neck fracture requiring surgery and high risk for secondary osteoarthritis. For a young person not a nice diagnosis...
yeah, had someone break a foot on a hard slab at my local gym because of setting like that
All my friends in the Engineering major years ago all knew how to twirl a pen even when talking to me. I could not do it! LOL!

The girl @ 7:50 is double jointed. In certain scenarios your finger will get stuck in that "broken" looking position and it's very hard to get it back out while hanging. Speaking from experience lol

My gym sets a TON of climbs that are slippy with big volumes and holds right below where you'd slip, and I have definitely hit one on my way falling down before. Hurt enough I was worried for my ankle, but was fine. But yeah, definitely made me scared of their boulder routes, so I stick to ropes with them...

Its so true. Watching Magnus climb it looks like anyone can do it yet you know without a doubt that its next to impossible. The guy is a god.

10:46 I am curious what the setting taboo is that Nikken referred to.
It’s setting a hold that a person can hit on the way down when they slip/fall off of another climb, like the guy hitting the blue hold on the way down in the video.

Can someone explain what the “setting taboo” is that Nikken refers to at the end?
My guess is putting a hold or feature directly below a point that climbers are likely to slip off, especially on a vert or slab wall like this. If you see the video, his left foot bounces off a hold that was directly below his slip point. It's taboo because it increases the risk of unnecessary injury.

The pole climbing as far as I know was originally a logger’s play day event, which is an event where loggers compete in various competitions related to their profession. In the events I have seen with the climb they actually bring either a chainsaw or hand saw slung on a rope up the pole with them and have to slice a chunk off the top of the log then repel back down. A lot more interesting when they’re flying up and down that thing with a chainsaw attached to them! These competitions are all over the states and I would assume other parts of the world too where there is a timber industry.
You can find these events on RUclips, might make a good react video too!
I can do the spinning-round-one-finger trick with a badminton racket, but a brush is so small that seems incredibly hard!
When my dad was a kid, a car slid off a jack onto my grandpa. A worker at the top of telephone pole saw it. My dad said he got down in three “steps”… the event was scary but you can still see the awe in my dad’s eyes when he thinks of that guy 👏 Just an average-Joe man doing crazy climbing moves to get down and help him :)

That brush spinning is easier than it looks. Magnus got the idea at the end... it's possible with a toothbrush too, a bit harder though.
Seems great climbing genetics and great hair genetics are linked in some way.

It’s amazing that Magnus doesn’t think he’s freakishly strong. But I guess he’s comparing himself to him at his prime or to other professional climbers. To a regular person and beginner climber like me, Magnus is definitely freakishly strong!
If you slip on the down for the lumber jack competition you do something called gaff out and you stop or slow down. I was doing that and if you slip you fall against the tree and you lock in position. when they are coming down they have to actively push away from the tree to keep their speed. It's dangerous if there is a branch sticking and it can impale you. it hurts like you'll smash your face or scratch up against the tree. It's much safer than what free soloing. bare stool athletes can do the tree climbing. it's dangerous with a saw.

Magnus said he’s starting to feel pain as he’s getting older, where as I always feel pain and feel more as I get older.

The brush trick is the same as the drummers drumstick spin. It doesn't go around one finger, rather it osculates back and forth quickly between two fingers
