Total armchair climber here, just had a thought though. When failing over and over again your brain starts learning how to fall better and better. So you kind of lean towards a side or have spin that you didn't have at the start, so completing it becomes harder, but falling becomes easier and safer. Kind of reminds me of learning to kickflip, you get into a rut and going for it becomes harder and harder. Coming back the next day things feel fresh again and the body isn't so tired or subconsciously trying to keep you safe, and you can progress.
that was one of the best videos of yours. it’s important to get a sense of limitations. When we see one video after another, of you attempting a problem and managing it after a few tries, we don’t get a sense of difficulty. You say something is difficult, but we „know“ it’s only as difficult as the other boulders you managed. This was good.

dont stop making videos like this. i love this - trying hard boulders over and over again, looking for a way to solve the problem. thats the real bouldering and thats good. I love it :)
Magnus. I feel this session in my soul. I'm nearing 50 years old and I typically boulder with guys in their 20s. I have days where I just have to walk away due to low power...but other days, I"m showing the young guys what old man strength can do. I've found the older I get, the better I need to eat, the better quality sleep I need, and the better I need to warm up....If I want to have good sessions. Thanks for sharing your bad day.
As someone who goes to war with himself mentally everyday I really loved this video. I out perform others on a regular basis and when I don't I tend to fall apart forgetting that even the best of the best (being the ones i look up to, not myself) do indeed struggle. I would love to see more videos of great athletes in many sports post videos of their bad days and their genuine reactions and thoughts during them. Thankyou. Videos like this mean a lot to me and although i don't idolise anyone, i look up to people like you.
My favorite thing is watching you make progress and trying to solve. Even if it doesnt end in completion. Its nice and satisfying but not what makes watching you great. Its the work ethic and thought put into the problems and having fun with it.
Only Magnus would apologize for swearing 😆 But on a real note, it's actually very inspiring to see such a talented climber struggle on a project. It really makes me feel like it's okay when I don't flash every project in my own range. Thanks for uploading this Magnus
Filming outdoors in Norway is a good idea. We have the best nature, and I think people in general are interested in seeing you climb in your own country.
your persistence is as inspiring as your hardest sends! i'd love to see you do multipitch routes like the big wall you did with Martin Skaar Olslund :)
At around the 20m40s mark you said you were debating whether or not to publish this video, but I'm actually really glad you did. These types of videos show the rest of us that it is perfectly okay to fail on a boulder for a session. As a climber who's long been trying to break into 7A-7A+, I've noticed that I really need to learn how to persevere despite multiple failed attempts and to just keep trying until I find a move that works. After all, that's the whole point about projecting, and it is a necessary lesson to learn if I want to improve further. I feel that not a lot of climbers on youtube show the entire projecting process properly, even though I'm pretty sure most good climbers (7A and up, in my mind) will have had to go through that struggle at one point in time.
I find that one of the most beautiful aspects of climbing is that everyone struggles, no matter how hard they climb. In fact, "good" climbers sending higher grades probably struggle even more than those of us at lower grades. They know how to struggle right, struggle smart, and struggle often. I constantly fall into the trap of not truly pushing myself, especially on slab, and give up on climbs after like 5 attempts. I'd probably be better than I am today if every time I wanted to give up I made myself give it another good try looking for a new solution. @SanguisDeathMetal Good luck on your climbing journey. We all have so much to learn from amazing climbers like Magnus, and I appreciate seeing people like you in the comments thinking critically about their own climbing. You can get 7A+ and so much more when you take it step by step improving your technique incessantly. Have a good day friend, you're a great part of this community. p.s. The reason you can't send your project is your feet. It's always the feet.
the most interesting parts of the video is when you see that someone you respect is struggling with boulder. I'd prefer to see more of something like this
Man this was SO relatable... When I am with friends this does not happen to me very often but when I go alone and i have too much time thinking in the rests so I only think to myself about the boulder/ autobelay lead problems... Yeah it can get tough. ALSO this was AMAZINGLY cut. I really love the overlapping "Magnus ghosts" it shows how long you have been there trying almost like if I was in a movie. It kind of brings that "old school" good vibe in this video. I can't describe it enough but this was one of my more favourite videos of yours Magnus. Please be encouraged to do more and remember that you are watched (at least partially) because of your persona and not just your high level of climbing!
That's because you are "cheating" when you are with them. Everyone who can do incredible or "superior" things when others are around, since they/you are taking advantage of the support system that exists when other Humans are around, compared to when you are alone. When you are alone, you are in in a vacuum, and will see your OBJECTIVE & TRUE abilities limit. In this case (climbing) you are going to get the advantage of having immediate & constant feedback about what to and not to do, even if no one said a single word to you. But when you are alone, it's all on you baby; welcome to the world of reality. Embrace it, for in it, you will find Truth. ;)
@@MR-MR-ud5oo you can't make a child alone in vacuum... teamwork has always been a thing and there is nothing wrong about it. But if you enjoy being alone because that makes you better than I am happy for you

This was such an amazing video to watch and I loved seeing you try, try and try again, until you had given it your all. Your worst session was still full of so much strength. I love these simple "Magnus goes bouldering" videos.
17:25 this is why I love failing a boulder over and over again. Eventually with enough hard work and practice, I'm gonna make it, and that feeling is everything.

I feel much better now, I hope he sends these problems on his next session on them. it definitely puts climbing grades to perspective.
Hey Magnus, I’m not sure that you will read this, but I want you to know that I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. I have been following you for several years now, absolute fan of the content that you put out. I am a 58 year old father of three children, married for 38 years. Life has been pretty difficult for my family. We deal with substance abuse, depression, social anxiety, suicidal ideation. My personal history is that I have lost a brother, cousin and my father to suicide. I was also suicidal after my brothers death. Despite my efforts, my youngest son made his first attempt on his life at the age of 17. I am devoted my life to figure out how to instill hope and vibrancy into my family, relationships, outlooks. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos, because they encouraged me to not give up. I admire your strength, commitment, determination, stubbornness, strength.… It doesn’t matter to me that I’m comparing some of life’s most arduous circumstances bouldering, … you were very much an inspiration!
I've been struggling in my last few sessions, probably did not give myself enough time to rest. Seeing you have bad days as well and "normalizing struggles" is honestly pretty nice to see. You don't often see that from big influencers, very refreshing. Thanks magnus, love your magcontent! almost as much as your magdust :D
Magnus! You've helped me tons maintaining my fitness while doing overnight shifts. Your videos have been a constant help. If your intent is to try and expand, it would be fun to see you doing a channel with videos from outside-in-nature locations. While going out to different countries / experiences, taking a half a day out somewhere checking out bouldering spots and highlighting places for tourism + content would be really sweet! Might be able to get tours from individual staff from agencies / wilderness conservation projects to explore icey wilderness / ravines / hidden caves like you'd said in China, or in Mexico, let alone spots in the USA and in Europe. Thank you for years of amazing content!
In reference to your question, it would be cool to see a climbing tour of Norway, showing us some of the classic spots and interesting bits and pieces outdoors that are legendary or maybe hidden gems
A collab with Jakob Schubert maybe? 😊 I also would love to see a raw training video with you and Jan Hojer. Or come and visit the Valle Orco Climbing Festival this year. 💛
Any outdoor session videos would be great! Loved the one with Shawn in Switzerland. Here are some ideas: -outdoor with some strong Norwegians in popular Norwegian crags -seeing you try hard/ project something outside -visit Emil and the EKB team in Sweden -South Africa with Ethan Pringle and crew -you’ve also mentioned doing something in Font which would be rad -visiting your 8B in Sogndal would be fun to see as well! I think we all really enjoy seeing you climb and interact with other climbers, so anywhere that happens is 💯
I love how much this session beat you up. It shows how human you are. Inspires us to try harder. And is extremely interesting to watch you keeo trying and trying these problems in slightly different ways. What a real session. Brilliant. :)
The level of endurance is insane. I feel like its somehow more impressive to do that many attempts than to see someone top something like that right away
I think there are a lot of beautiful sport climbing spots deep in the alps and I don't know if you are even interested in the beauty of the mountains but with the hut infrastructure of the alps I believe it would be incredible to see you check out a few spots all around the alps and test the different types of rock these magnificent Mountains have to offer (from the granite (i.e. around the Bergell) to the sharp lime stone of the western alps). This would also grant the chance to ask many climbing professionals for Cooperations because you can find quite a lot of them around the alps, so the opportunity that at least someone has got the time and wants to collaborate with you. Looking forward to see what the other audience members think about this idea, but I myself am so attached to the alps that it would be great to see you visiting them and getting around a bit! And no matter what you end up doing, I ve been following your channel for quite some time and am super stoked to see you uploading these oldschool type of sessions, big love from Konstanz Germany!!!
This video was better BECAUSE you didn't send it. People need to realise life isnt always perfect like they see on their socials. Well done for letting your ego take a bit of a bruising and still publishing the video.
I really like these boulder videos. Just watching you climb is entertaining. Whether you have a good day or bad day, simply seeing you try your hardest is a joy to watch. I think leaving in the failed attempts shows character and makes us relate more. Your perseverance motivates me, to go and try my hardest when climbing myself.
I went bouldering with my son at the Silvapark boulder area near Ischgl in Austria this summer. A beautiful setting with lots of difficult boulders. One of the hardest boulder problems is Anam Cara (8B+). You will love it there.
Its allways very nice for people who are not on your level to see that awesome climbers like you struggle aswell. It was super fun to watch you trying to figure it out even if you cant finish it. Still a great watch.
Love these types of super honest videos! I feel like seeing someone we as climbers all look up to struggle on boulders we would as well gives us that extra bit of confidence
I've been having a pretty difficult time lately, but thankfully climbing is the one thing really holding me together. As of this week watching your videos has brought a lot of motivation back into my life, I love watching them as they're super wholesome and help me so much with my constant strive to be the best climber I can be. I can't wait to apply many things I've learned through you in tomorrow's climbing session - really thank you so much for your content! I also realized I need a holiday and decided this morning that I'll take a trip to your gym this or next month - super stoked! And to answer your question, it would be fantastical if you would come to Beest Boulders in the Netherlands! The smaller location in Amsterdam, Het Lab, has a much nicer vibe than the bigger one imo, and I love both locations in Den Haag. Energiehaven in Utrecht is very cool as well. :)
Thank you, this video could not be uploaded at a better time, at least for me. I have been having off days recently and even wondered if I did enjoy climbing at all anymore and it's been a new struggle for me. I needed to see that it is part of climbing, and not something wrong with me.
Even Magnus can fall into the trap of doing 4000 tries on an exhausting boulder and then be surprised the rest of the session is ruined 😂 Laches are sooooo demanding on every single part of the body 😮💨

I can only do "moyen" which is the 2nd of 7 levels at my gym haha😅 enjoy watching videos of what could be though....in 30 years of practice maybe💀
Trying that one boulder endlessly brought me fond memories of Anton's videos where he tries to learn new tricks 200+ times.
Seeing a video of you in Patagonia would be so awesome. its always been on my bucket list.
It's impressive he automatically swears in English. He's in that mode for filming I guess.
This video feels like watching the protagonist's training arc haha ❤
Haikyuu season 2 has always been my favourite to re-watch over and over. 😊
Filming outdoors in Norway is a good idea. We have the best nature, and I think people in general are interested in seeing you climb in your own country.
I agree, but throw in the odd trip
That was such a good river shot.
I bet that water is frigid ASF; I would fully jump in, even if for just seconds.
I also like the idea of Magnus climbing in Norway. A good chance to visit the homeland too!
your persistence is as inspiring as your hardest sends!
i'd love to see you do multipitch routes like the big wall you did with Martin Skaar Olslund :)
But if you enjoy being alone because that makes you better than I am happy for you
I LOVE watching a struggle. When i watch amazing climbers in videos just flash everything they try it makes me feel like im doing it wrong if want to project a specific climb for ages.
This was so important for many of us to see. Thank you for sharing not only your successes, but your struggles with us as well!
This was such an amazing video to watch and I loved seeing you try, try and try again, until you had given it your all. Your worst session was still full of so much strength. I love these simple "Magnus goes bouldering" videos.
7:00 “I wonder if the top is hard”proceeds to get on from bottom😂
yeah, show me how you start it from the middle
@@Sepp2009There are down climb holds in the middle that are probably there to try the end actually
@@Sepp2009 good point but it’s still funny

17:25 this is why I love failing a boulder over and over again.
Eventually with enough hard work and practice, I'm gonna make it, and that feeling is everything.
It's so nice to see someone as strong as Magnus having a tough day. Yesterday I spent 2h trying to record a video on a V7 I already sent but I just can't seem to be able to get it in video haha. I feel much better now, I hope he sends these problems on his next session on them. it definitely puts climbing grades to perspective.
Hey Magnus,
I’m not sure that you will read this, but I want you to know that I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos.
I admire your strength, commitment, determination, stubbornness, strength.…
It doesn’t matter to me that I’m comparing some of life’s most arduous circumstances bouldering, … you were very much an inspiration!
Magnus's worst bouldering session: "I only sent 2 8As instead of 4 😂" love the content Magnus keep it coming !
I’m so glad you uploaded this showing how not every session is a good one!
In reference to your question, it would be cool to see a climbing tour of Norway, showing us some of the classic spots and interesting bits and pieces outdoors that are legendary or maybe hidden gems
Thanks for being so raw and honest in posting this video Magnus. I know a lot of people can relate to having "off days" in every aspect of life
Hi
it came over as a very intimate video. Mad respect for showing that side of yourself - which we all have.
12:00 South America would be really cool for a video man. The climbing scene in Argentina is pretty big with some nice gyms in Buenos Aires
i had a session just like this earlier in the week. Seeing a climbing icon suffer from a bad session makes me feel a lil more human. Thank you!
bros "worst" session would easily crush in any bouldering gym globally (except japan)
what a beautiful video, lighting, how the gym looks, outdoor, the editing skills, scenery - even it being night!!!!
A collab with Jakob Schubert maybe? 😊 I also would love to see a raw training video with you and Jan Hojer. Or come and visit the Valle Orco Climbing Festival this year. 💛
Any outdoor session videos would be great! Loved the one with Shawn in Switzerland.
Here are some ideas:
-outdoor with some strong Norwegians in popular Norwegian crags
-seeing you try hard/ project something outside
-visit Emil and the EKB team in Sweden
-South Africa with Ethan Pringle and crew
-you’ve also mentioned doing something in Font which would be rad
-visiting your 8B in Sogndal would be fun to see as well!
I think we all really enjoy seeing you climb and interact with other climbers, so anywhere that happens is 💯
Like you said it's very relatable getting pissed off at boulders you try over and over again, and I think it makes it very funny as well.
I love how much this session beat you up. It shows how human you are. Inspires us to try harder. And is extremely interesting to watch you keeo trying and trying these problems in slightly different ways. What a real session. Brilliant. :)
The up side to not doing anything but watching climbing videos because of headache:
Being reeeeeeeally early on Magnusˋ video😂
Ah yes, need a rest from the headache so you watch videos👍
I hope you feel better soon!
It's pretty interesting how the music from this video potentially transformed the setting into a more upbeat vibe. Great choice Magneto!
Come to montreal, the bouldering scene has started exploding there, could be interesting.
I went bouldering with my son at the Silvapark boulder area near Ischgl in Austria this summer. A beautiful setting with lots of difficult boulders. One of the hardest boulder problems is Anam Cara (8B+). You will love it there.
Amother colab with Pete Whittaker! Get him to take you on a big wall for some sketchy trad and then something well protected but hard.
Its allways very nice for people who are not on your level to see that awesome climbers like you struggle aswell. It was super fun to watch you trying to figure it out even if you cant finish it. Still a great watch.
Anyone else on the toilet
No
Not anymore but thanks for asking
How did bro know
Yeah
Me
Love these types of super honest videos! I feel like seeing someone we as climbers all look up to struggle on boulders we would as well gives us that extra bit of confidence
Magnus, please give us a font video/series!
actually like seeing magnus have an "off day", these types of sessions are always the hardest so its cool to see that magnus is the same
Hey Magnus, it would be cool to see you do a "road trip" to the national parks in the US and do some of the unique climbing spots they have!
I was just thinking this! Acadia National Park in Maine would be so cool. Off the beaten path and relatively unknown, would make for a great video
It'd be cool to see a collaboration with a female climber!
Thank you, this video could not be uploaded at a better time, at least for me.
I have been having off days recently and even wondered if I did enjoy climbing at all anymore and it's been a new struggle for me.
I needed to see that it is part of climbing, and not something wrong with me.
Even Magnus can fall into the trap of doing 4000 tries on an exhausting boulder and then be surprised the rest of the session is ruined 😂
Laches are sooooo demanding on every single part of the body 😮💨
Exactly what I needed after a brutal gym session yesterday. It's more important to try than to top, especially when pulling on plastic.
The channel should be renamed to True Magnus
We've never seen true magnus.
I'm an extreme beginner, and your videos are really motivating for me. Thank you for showing both your best clears and worst sessions, it's important to remember that bad days are normal ( and alright ) too.
You trying over and over again is something I REALLY look up to. Thanks :)
Been watching for years now and found the second channel. This was a really good video as someone who struggles with perfectionism. Keep up the good work, Magnus !
I have to say, it's a great video. Magnus always looks so superhuman, so seeing that it happens to him as well proves that it happens even to the bests.
