    Combat patrol has been by far my most favorite way to play since release, I'm currently buying every combat patrol box so all my friends can try out armies before going into them. It feels so much more like a board game than 40k and is nice to play a few games with some food and drinks to have a good time!

      This is what I was wanting to hear, basically "buy a box [for this specific format that's not just 'regular 40k scaled down'] and you're done," so it incentivizes you to try more than one army instead of having to buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff just to be able to field one army.

    This is great. I was worried that the combat patrol missions would be locked up on the rulebook, which would appear to be antithetical to the idea of the new combat patrol. I’m glad this is not the case!

    The GW site has all combat patrols accounted for, including Space Marines, Tyranids, and Necrons. Space Marines and Tyranids use subset of units from the Leviathan box.
    I really like the rules on first readthrough. It seems like combat patrols could be a fun launching point for crusades: a relatively even launching point from which new collectors and longtime players can grow and customize their forces (and gradually phase in the complete gameplay rules).

    i like the idea of combat patrol making 40k a potential thing to include in game nights with friends. like a game that doesnt have a million models to set up and takes 1 to 2 instead of 3 to 5 hours to play seems really nice for playing some 40k in a more casual "hanging out" kinda way

    Even if this is just a bit of fun, and/or a stepping stone to 1000 points for new players, it will more than serve its purpose.
    It's a friendly game mode, so I see no reason not to tweak loadouts to trybout other things, with the other player's consent of course.
    Very interested to see how they expand on this when the codex's come around. Hoping for more options, say units you can switch out for others as you build your collection. Army builder lite so to speak.

    I was a bit confused because in the core rulebook only one leader can lead a unit with minor exceptions(apothecary etc)
    In the SM force, it had both terminator captain and terminator librarian. I was stumped thinking that the loadout won't work unless you want to sacrifice one leader.
    Seems now the combat patrol insists you attach both the captain and librarian to the terminator squad.
    Still, I may offer a 500 point match in lieu of any combat patrol box.

    • @rikufujibayashi9383
      @rikufujibayashi9383 Год назад

      dunno if this is irrelevant to you now but in case you are still confused heres the thing. Generally you can indeed only attach one leader to any given unit, but there are exceptions. These come in two forms, i will use the ones i know from the armies i paly but they will have similar ones for marines etc.
      option one is that a leader may have an ability, typically specified on the back of the datacard, and then the bottom righthand corner, which allows for it to join a unit which already has a certain type of leader. An example would be the necrons cryptech lords, which all may attach themselves onto a unit as long as the existing leader of that unit is a noble.
      the second option can be found on the ork boyz, which have an ability to allow themselves to be led by two leaders, so long as one of the leaders has the warboss tag.
      this is why some setups have units with multiple leader

    The drone changes to tau has me utterly confused with their combat patrol. On the opening army listing, it mentions Fire Warrior Shas’ui having a marker drone and so does Stealth Shas’vre. However, the box listing has shield drones which no one appears to be equipped with? The actual index sheet for the mentions above only has shas'vre getting a marker drone.
    Probably doesn't help I'm new anyway, but it seems like that box is a bit of a mess with the rules.

    • @mrchupee
      @mrchupee Год назад

      RAW it seems only the Stealth Suit team will be able to benefit from having the drone (i.e. advance and still Observe). I hope after Leviathan calms down silly errors like this will get updated.
      So it seems you'll basically end up with extra drone tokens you can only use in larger games of 40K (like adding a Shield Drone to the Strike Team Shas'ui as pictured).

    • @JuffoWup78
      @JuffoWup78 Год назад

      @mrchupee yeah. Interestingly, I did finally open up my leviathan launch box and the codex there lists out x drones for certain models but not who gets what. But the quick flipping through had no indexes for equipment.

    Could we get a ranking of Combat Patrols?

  • @MrHoneuma
    @MrHoneuma Год назад +2

    They're going to need to update the balance on the Combat Patrols, hopefully sooner rather than later. The CPs with strong vehicles have a monumental advantage over those that don't. Some CPs are entirely infantry with maybe a handful of weapons hitting at strength 8 or 9 with a few hitting higher, while other have vehicles with toughness going as high as 11 like the Wraithlord for the Aeldari. The World Eater's CP does not have a single way to wound the Wraithlord, or any of the vehicles t9+ on anything better than a 5, and in reverse, that Wraithlord wounds everything in the mode on a 3+ at worst. Already saw one game of Guard vs Aeldari where the Wraithlord used their fate dice to 1 shot the Guard's Armoured Sentinel turn 1, and proceeded to steamroll the rest of the game because nothing could deal with it.

    • @OGXenos
      @OGXenos Год назад

      This is exactly why I don't want to play this game mode. I dont want to be SOLD pre-determined match up chances, especially as a World Eaters player. Our entire CP is just medium speed melee units with all our best buffs gutted and one bottom-tier character who gets his ass kicked by every other "centerpiece" CP model. Anything with half-decent ranged weapons has a free open season the entire first turn. What little strategy World Eaters had has been removed and the ONLY strategy is run right at the enemy and hope the sheer number of bodies clogs their sight lines enough to close the gap without getting battleshocked.

    • @mattyno964
      @mattyno964 Год назад

      Is this taking into account all the balancing they've done with tweaks to rules, abilities etc. Specific to combat patrol?

    • @OGXenos
      @OGXenos Год назад

      @@mattyno964 Yeah, it's not very well balanced, even with tweaks. Aeldari get a Farseer, 11 Guardian Defenders, 6 Windriders and a Wraithlord. The Farseer only loses one ability, and so does the Wraithlord, while the GD and Windriders get to keep their normal abilities fully intact. Their army rule, Strands of Fate, is functionally identical but instead of 6 dice per battle round you roll 12 at the start of the game.
      In contrast, World Eaters just get one HEAVILY nerfed Lord on Juggernaut (He loses both his abilities, both of which are actually really good), 20 Khorne Berzerkers (Who also lose their only ability for no reason), and 10 Jackals, who, you guessed it, lose their ability. They also completely GUTTED the Blessings of Khorne army rule, with only three possible buffs, being a 6+ FNP, Fight on Death or Lethal Hits. Since they also removed ALL the abilities from every unit, the Berzerkers and Jackals can't even re-roll their own blessings with icons (which is nearly the entire point of even having jackals, and despite the fact they are explicitly described as having the icons in the mandatory loadout section), meaning getting any buff other than a 6+ FNP is completely random.
      In an Aeldari vs World Eaters CP matchup of equal skill, the Aeldari will have nearly a 100% winrate. There is NOTHING the World Eaters can do with pitiful ranged attacks (only 7 plasma pistols in the entire army, and the rest is bolt pistols ONLY) and only 6" movement (except for the Juggernaut at 10") while the Aeldari just run circles around them for the entire round. Quite literally, the World Eaters cannot possibly catch the Windriders, who have over double the movement speed of Berzerkers. And the Wraithknight, who isn't even the main Lord of War, can easily 1v1 the Lord on Juggernaut with his t11 toughness (Juggernaut can only hit on 5 wheras Wraithknight can easily hit him on 3. Wraithknight also has 3 more wounds, a 2+ save, and just has outright better attacking profiles on both melee and ranged, while being only 2" slower), taking him out of the fight nearly immediately.
      Not to mention, thanks to the Aeldari keeping many of their unit abilities, the Windriders still get to re-roll their rolls to hit, ensuring they just keep killing the t4 Berzerkers, and the Guardian Defenders KEEP their Strands of Fate re-rolls while on objectives, despite the World Eaters LOSING that EXACT SAME ability for Blessings of Khorne. Farseer can also give his army -1 to wound. So even if the World Eaters, against 99:1 odds, managed to actually get into engagement with the enemy, they are still statistically likely to lose due to the amount of re-rolls and Strands of Fate dice Aeldari get to keep for no reason.
      So like I said just above you in the replies, I have ZERO interest in playing CP with my main army since I don't particularly find getting smacked around with terrible unit synergy as a fun way to spend an hour of my time.

      @@dominicesquivel3901 You absolutely can play combat patrol sized games without the rules. You would just be opening more options for you and your opponent, which could be more fun. It might also make it way slower. Combat Patrol removes a lot of options so that it's a faster game, which I like. I would recommend looking at the combat patrol army lists and agreeing with your opponent on what you'd like to change.

    does anyone know if you can also use the core stratagems or just the stratagems in each CP?

    Ill bet World Eaters players are really happy they get to start every game having half their army tabled by ranged weapons since their box FORCES them to zerg rush with only 6" melee units with mediocre saves and wounds.

    Combat Patrol is great for beginners or if you want a quick match, but it has limited appeal to experienced players who are accustomed to 2000 pts army battles.
    I appreciate that GW did their best to balance the CP boxes against each other, and the unique characters and enhancement choices provide compelling gameplay opportunities that are worth trying, but there’s no arguing that some CP armies are objectively better than others. For example, the Aeldari CP box has the Wraithlord, which is one of the most powerful units in 10e (right now), giving the Aeldari CP army a huge advantage.
    If I’m going to lose a battle, I’d prefer to lose with the army I built rather than a fixed CP army.

    I want someone to explain to me how the black templar box and the custodies box's are equal in player power. I rolled well above average in the game and was dunked on. I could not kill him and he could not, not kill me. Worst balance I have ever come across in any table top have ever.

      The templar combat patrol kit is a joke.
      It has (I think) 1 crusader squad, a hq or 2, an elite and a tank.
      But it only equals out to something like under 20 models. When half of them are scouts, they can be killed by 1 custodian squad

      how did the victory points look? even if you get tabled, if you win on points, that's still a win

      @Jerry2die4 Bad, I was knocked off of the no man's land objective in the first turn. The my home objective was taken when I was tabled turn 3. So I scored like 5.

      had this same experience with necrons vs daemons combat patrols. opponent beat me out by like 20vp every round. there is definitely some power disparity between some of these boxes, that i hope GW fixes soon

    I have watched already a couple of your videos but if i might give one point of complain/advice... pls speak more vivid/animated... it's allways monotone and after a couple of minutes my brain drifts away cause of this. I like the diashow with the text, looks like a university project everytime and its a good job but pls work on the presentation with the voice, dont be monotone

      Box vs box... custom datacard, strats and so. Literally standalone play. You can field your own miniatures but you have to use the rules in the box so its standard box vs box.
      As far as I can tell, the contents of the leviathan box tyranids are also used in part in the combat patrol box, so if you use the free nids combat patrol in whc and have purchased the leviathan box, you are all set up.

    Combat patrol perhaps is the new low of wasted time, on par with tabletop games like lost patrol, killteam overkill, assasinorum and etc.
    You know what brought new players to play their boxset? a Killteam, prior to 8th edition. All models are separate units, pick 3 specialist, and just play the rules from your codex.
    This new gizmo gw pushes is dead on arrival.
