  • Searching for civil defense sirens around Los Felize in Los Angeles, CA.
    Walk a total of 10 miles with a still aching toe on a trip that ends on the top of a mountain. Also, I see perhaps one of the best preserved 500SHTT and find one of the most hidden sirens on Los Angeles.

      When I talk to people about them in Los Angeles we usually comment that they seem to be hidden in plain sight. I've pointed them out to people who have told me, "I've been coming here for X# of years and never noticed that thing." And people ask me what I'm looking at during the walks which allowed me to have several engaging conversations with perfect strangers.

    I love the look of the 500 SHTT sirens. I like the placement of the siren that is by the public pool and on the mountain side.

    • @DayTrippingAdventurer
      @DayTrippingAdventurer  Год назад

      I've driven by the public pool so many times and never saw it, now I always try to look for it. But yeah, I generally don't give much thought into why the sirens were places where they were. But, if you think about it, especially at the time of their installation, most make sense. The one at the pool is an odd one though, not sure how people lived around that area in the 50s? But then, I don't think that freeway was there so.......

      @@DayTrippingAdventurer maby there was a park or a condominium there... I work for a siren company that installs, repaired and just does general upkeep on public warning systems and I've seen some sirens in odd places. I have encountered sirens just install in the middle of the country where there's barely anyone located and I once seen a Thunderbolt siren that was installed in the middle of a woods what was just bizarre. I saw a picture of a Soundmaster 125 siren right next to a public pool and the placement of the one 500 SHTT is reminds me of that.

    I’m not sure if it is still there, but as of a year ago there was still a Thunderbolt siren on Beach Blvd in Buena Park behind a fire station shortly before the 5 freeway. Another pole had been erected in front of it preventing it from ever rotating again. (Not that it would ever run again anyways).

    Also little side note, thanks for stopping by my live streams, even though they were fully in French ^^ ! I did my best to answer your messages in English ! Also a friend of mine was co-hosting so if you're wondering which one of the two guys speaking I am, I'm the one with the deeper voice ^^

      As for your livestream: Watching it was fun and I did get who was who from watching your other videos, thank you for taking the time to check in on me. I work a lot with a Belgium friend who gets me on French on jobs, I've gotten to work with some good French actors (Juliet Benoche and Sophie Marceau ) so I can understand some French, just can't speak or spell it at all.

Haha, it happened to me too quite a few times ^^ ! Another interesting link for you: in the movie "The Winds Of War II", at 18:45, you can hear an actual recording of an SD-10 of the LA County system that was located right next to the movie studio. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/SOS5esjEOTQ/видео.html
      I've also put up a playlist of various videos showing tests of the many different siren types present around LA County: ruclips.net/p/PLou--vIIxWhjN2o2oAVAcZSQcgUsSFYwN
      You've worked with Sophie Marceau ? You brought some of that Hollywood flair with you when you've crossed the ocean xD ! It's great that you can understand some French, it's a great language with one of the largest amount of culture and history, with some of the greatest authors this planet has known. And yes spelling can be very hard in French, even for native speakers, so don't worry about that xD !
      No problem, I really like your videos. And not just for the sirens. For the whole content. And funnily enough, while I've never been to the US (I'd love to), I've actually recognized some places in your siren walks and some of your other LA-related videos, thanks to video games. Mostly Grand Theft Auto 5, in which their map ("Los Santos"), is a very well made fictional parody of LA that is faithful to the original according to various people. So it's quite funny to be somehow familiar to a place you've never actually been to x)
