I can't believe Miranda wrote this entire show. Every word, every note! He's brilliant. The research! It's an amazing show! I'm so glad you're getting into it.

Just want to say that the version of One Last Time at the White House was so emotional for me (and I hope you react to it next! Left that part out). They did this performance between the 2016 election and the transfer of power, if I recall correctly, and there was a serious poignancy to singing about that transfer of power at a time when a well-loved two term president was about to transfer power to the winner of the next election. You also get to see Obama's reaction to the hard-hitting lyrics in that video!! I want to encourage you to check out First Burn, as well, which is the 'first draft' of the song Burn by Eliza, with expanded, more hard-hitting lyrics. It's sung by five wonderful women who have all played Eliza at various productions of Hamilton.

My two fav Hamilton songs from the White House are:
Lin and Laks performing Hamilton’s opening song in 2009, six years before the show opened, when that was the only song, and Lin sang it mostly as Burr,
and Chris Jackson singing “One Last Time” near the end of Obama’s 2nd term in front of one of the most famous paintings of George Washington. 😭

Chris Jackson singing One Last Time in the White House near the end of Obama's second term makes me tear up every time! I know Chris was extra emotional about it being the end of the first Black President's time in office, and the fact that Washington gave the speech only about 2 years before he died, combined with the understanding that much of what Washington said (by way of Hamilton's writing) is the same sort of things President Obama said many times just fused perfectly to bring many of the people watching him to tears, too.

Daveed is so charismatic on stage, that most people recognize that he was Lafayette in Act 1 and Jefferson in Act 2.
Some recognize Anthony Ramos as John Laurens returning as Phillip Hamilton.
But did you catch Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy and then Maria Reynolds?
Or Oak Onaodowan, so dynamic as Hercules Mulligan, disappearing into the James Madison part in the 2nd half?
    Such talented folks.

My best friend came with me to see Hamilton live, having basically no knowledge of the show. I forgot to tell him about the double roles, and I think during “What’d I Miss?” it clicked and I quickly whispered something like “Same actors, explain later.”
We were walking back to the car and he was like “Holy shit I was so confused for a minute.” I’m just so used to knowing the dual roles that it never occurred to me.

My favorite little fact about these specific White House performances is these guys were all super hungover and still nailed it. Mondays were their only days off, so they left NYC for DC after the last show on Sunday (having done 2 shows that day) and partied all the way😂😂😂

So, a musical nerd moment, besides this song being epic, it also shows how smart Lin is because all musicals have like rule songs to them and the independent most famous one is the 11 o'clock song that happens just before the finale. But the most crazy musicals that are kind of snubbed by critics have that one. The one they look for is the I Want song, which this is, basically if you think of Disney musicals there is always that song the main character sings early on that is basically their thesis statement that is then answered in the 11 o'clock song.

I love how they all can’t keep still while singing: because they’re so used to dancing while they sing! 😂
I’m so Impressed by Daveed Diggs and his mad skills. I mean, who else could do “Guns and Ships” in a French Accent without missing a beat and keep it PRISTINELY enunciated?

There's a reason it took Lin Manuel a year to write this song. It's so dense, and he knew it had to be perfect. Yes, a whole year. And the density of the lyrics you can see why.

This cast was perfection & they never disappoint in whatever projects they have chosen in their careers, Lin recruited his avengers team of the Stage Theatre elite for this production of Hamilton, you should watch the Behind the scenes & TikToks of this cast are freaking hilarious and a bunch of crack heads

As part of the 2018 March for Our Lives, LMM and Ben Platt performed a mash-up of "The Story of Tonight" and "You Will Be Found," from Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, respectively. Both productions were shepherded by Alex Lacamoire, who arranged the mashup and plays piano. It's amazing and I highly recommend it.

After watching your last 2 reaction videos, you definitely need to react to "One Last Time" performed at the White House. It's an extremely poignant and emotional performance. Obamas reaction is spot on given the transfer of power that was due to happen shortly after.

Since you like Daveed Diggs I suggest you watch his movie Blindspotting. It also incorporates rap into the story. He costars and co-wrote the screen play
Also for these WH performances they drove down to DC after their performance the night before and most of them were hung over and sleep deprived. They performed great and met with school groups and did some other things with the President.

Daveed Diggs is my favorite too! Except Lafayette is my favorite character because I adore the progression of his confidence (The Hero of Two Worlds indeed). I went down the Blindspotting and Clipping rabbit hole happily, it's some of my favorite music and cinema now. And his work with his bestie, Rafael Casal, is amazing. Also hope you do One Last Time at the White House, it makes me and my mama cry every single time.

Hamilton is so fantastic! This song is the one that got me interested in the musical to begin with, and another one that cemented my interest is Yorktown/World Turned Upside-Down from the Tonys - the stage shaking harmonics in the last repeat of "The world turned upside-down" just get the blood racing through my whole body and make me want to jump up and dance or fight or just do anything and everything! So I highly recommend you watch that one, and in case you wonder why they don't have any guns on stage, it's because it aired the night after the Orlando mass shooting at Pulse, a gay club, where 49 people were killed and 53 were injured. I also highly recommend First Burn, the first version of the song Burn that's sung by 5 very talented ladies who all played Eliza in various productions of Hamilton - it's much more raw and angry than the Burn in the show, and since Lin's ultimate portrayal of Eliza was more quiet and loving, he reworked the lyrics into what we have now... but I sure do love the original lyrics too!

If you are interested in exploring the musical genre more, I strongly suggest Les Misrables. It is in one of the top spots on the list for me, along with Hamilton. In fact, there are structural elements Lin-Manuel draws from Les Mis in creating Hamilton. The version of Les Mis you watch matters. The most solid is probably the 10th Anniversary concert version (it is the whole show, but without staging) which is free on RUclips. The 25th Anniversary concert is also excellent, but includes a thoroughly out of his depth Nick Jonas in one of the romantic leads. The 2012 film version has some outstanding moments, but is a major step down in quality overall.

I seem to remember hearing that it took like a year to write this “epic” song. Maybe another Hamilfan can confirm that… they’re in every single reaction video comment section with the “fun facts” surrounding every juxtaposition, every casting choice, every symbol, every device
But anyway I believe it! I personally believe Lin Manuel Miranda has a mastery of language compare to Shakespeare. He is an absolute genius - as a composer but even more so as a lyricist

If you want to see more about the talent of the Hamilton cast you should look up Ham4Han. The cast would come outside the theater and entertain the crowd waiting on a ticket lottery. My favorite is this one when the ladies in the cast did that song
