The explanation to the bullet thing was actually two lyrics later, if you'd waited 😂 he made them take out the bullets so they couldn't be given away by a stray gunshot-if someone accidentally fired while they were sneaking, they'd be done for, because those things are loud

And 18th century guns weren't notable for their quality control. Misfires weren't extremely rare (and may have even been responsible for starting the actual Revolution).

@@redhex__1738 no, that’s not true. They were attacking a defensive nest with cannons and dozens of British soldiers, if they had a gun fight Hamilton would have been outnumbered 2-1, so they used sneak tactics and were able to surprise the British. A misfire, which was relatively common, but more importantly the youth and inexperience of the soldiers was the bigger issue, since most of his soldiers were between 12-18, would have been certain defeat and mostly likely his entire platoon killed.

Arguably the coolest part of this musical is the background character called ‘the bullet.’ She is the one to get killed in the background and becomes a phantom- She shakes hands with Lauren’s and then he dies. Flirts with Phillip and next song he’s dead. Carries the bullet that first misses Hamilton, and at the end she carries the one who ends him, too.

Yorktown is definitely one of the most high energy songs from the show. It's the one they did at the Tony awards the year the won everything! 😄 But, they chose not to use the prop guns because the award show took place the day after the Orlando nightclub shooting and they thought it would be in poor taste. So they just mimed everything instead.

The actors that played Hercules Mulligan, Lafayette, John Laurens, and Peggy in Act 1, play different characters in Act 2.
The difference is especially notable with the actor playing Hercules Mulligan. He’s such a force in this song, and in Act 2 he plays the delicate and sickly James Madison. Props to actor Oak Onaodowan.

  • @NiaMeg

Yorktown is definitely high energy-it covers pre-battle preparations, the battle, the surrender, and the revolutionaries’ reaction to the end of the war. Whew- that’s a lot in one song!
Also, re Hercules Mulligan: he says he “takes their measurements and then” he smuggles the information he hears while he’s doing that job. He’s a tailor, introduced at the very beginning of the show so easy to miss.

  • @katarinakt9521

About the bullets - Hamilton coordinated a sneaky bayonet attack, where he made his men take the bullets out of their guns, so they a) couldn't be given away by a stray shot and b) the bullets wouldn't rattle inside of the guns so they'd be more silent.
And yes, they had spies, and not only Hercules Mulligan, even though he was pretty important. George Washington actually had a whole spy-ring, the Culper Ring, who if I'm not mistaken discovered Arnold's treachery.

They performed Yorktown at the Tony Awards, and there had been a big mass shooting the night before in a theatre so they performed without the (prop-)rifles.
Their choreography was still so on point that every last hand-position lined up.

  • @larynanntapp6333
    @larynanntapp6333 2 года назад +41

I have watched them do Yorktown at the Tony Awards...the lighting makes it easier to see everything. But there's a difference between how they perform it on stage and how they did it at the Tony Awards. Shortly after the the stroke of midnight on the day of the Tony Awards was the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub that killed 50. Out of respect, they changed the choreography for the Tony Awards. On Broadway, they use musket props. But they didn't want to use them after the mass shooting so they changed the choreography. That shows the level of having class and empathy by the company of Hamilton. The world defined turned upside down in the early morning hours.

@@ralfrudi3963 ….so how is Lin Manuel Miranda supposed to stop the gun issues in America?
Queer folks were slaughtered for existing the day before they were going to perform this. Broadway has always been a huge queer space, and Lin’s a vocal supporter, so him deciding to do this (and using one of his speeches that night to mention the killings) was what he could do.

A fun little music note for the end of “What Comes Next?” Most broadway songs end on a final chord that rounds out the full song. But with George just ending the song on the note he does, there’s no resolving note to signify the end of the song, which heightens the comedic element of him just walking off stage.

  • @TheAlmaward
    @TheAlmaward 2 года назад +5

"What does taking bullets out your gun have to do with being sneaky?" It helps if you actually listen to the lyrics - he was explaining when you shut it off. He didn't want any stray shots giving their position away, so he had his men take the bullets out of their guns so it couldn't happen.

Lafayette won’t appear anymore as a character in the show. The actor playing Lafayette will return in act two as Thomas Jefferson.
This is due to what the theatre refers to as “Dual Casting” (for Hamilton I propose the term Duel casting. Lol)
These are the characters/actors that will reappear in Act Two in new Roles. So hopefully it won’t be confusing in Act Two-
    Actor Daveed Diggs-
    Act One- Marquis De’ Lafayette
    Act Two- Thomas Jefferson
    Actor Anthony Ramos
    Act One- John Laurens
    Act Two- Philip Hamilton
    Actor Okieriete Onaodowan
    Act One- Hercules Mulligan
    Act Two- James Madison
    Actress Jasmine Cephas Jones
    Act One- Peggy Schuyler
    Act Two- Maria Reynolds
You were once again correct about there being foreshadowing with the future of Hamilton’s and Lafayette’s relationship. Though he doesn’t appear, Lafayette will be referenced multiple times in Act Two. Once Lafayette drafts France’s Declaration of Independence against the British Empire and America must decide how or if they should provide aid to the French Revolutionary War. Great reaction!
Edit- You should be able to finish out Act One next with
    “Dear Theadosia/Tomorrow There’ll be more of us/Non-Stop”
    Looking forward to it!
