Fun fact: Lafayette spoke very little English and Washington didn't know French. They needed a translator, and Hamilton was usually the one doing it.

The two harmonies in this, “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story,” and “History has its eyes on you” just give me absolute chills.

History Has It's Eyes On You is arguably the low-key most powerful song in the whole musical, and it's like... 80% due to the context that this was first and foremost a live Broadway performance with real people looking at Hamilton as he lives out his story. History quite literally has it's eyes on him. Him and everyone else in the show. It's honestly more so the theme song of the show more than any other song aside from like... Maybe one of the final songs.

Daveed Diggs is amazing. Someone's probably mentioned it, but he has an amazing resume as a rapper and actor. Check out all of his stuff that you can. He's so versatile.

Oh, there is so much more emotion coming.
"He's so good." There's a reason he won the Tony.

There are more words in Guns & Ships than some shows have in an entire act, I think. It's insane that he can rap, that fast, with that applied accent. Every cast and crew member of this production deserved all of the awards they were nominated for.

That quick rap-piece was the fastest rap in Broadway history.

"I was not expecting that to make me emotional..." Oh you sweet young man... 😊
They describe Hamilton as 2:40 of Phillipa Soo (Eliza) trying to make you cry.
Thank you again for sharing your journey with us. It is so much fun watching it anew through your eyes.

Guns and Ships is hands down my favorite song in Hamilton. Daveed is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I read (or maybe saw? idk) that if Hamilton had been a "traditional" (ie: no rapping) musical, it would have been 6-7 hours long. With all the words Daveed got out in 2 minutes, you can see why.

The entirety of Washington's relationship with Hamilton shows him viewing the younger man in the same light a father would a son - Washington was Childless, Hamilton grew up an orphan. The struggle between them for much of the musical leading up to this point was Hamilton wanting to fight and Washington holding him back. Now, as no recourse is left, Washington is opening up to his protégé, explaining just why he'd been hesitant. He doesn't doubt Hamilton's ability, he only wanted to shield him from the pressures he had experienced himself for as long as possible.

Not to mention that both had pretty abysmal lives that made them who we know them as. Washington lost a lot of family and suffered some humiliating military defeats back when he was a red coat.

I've watched you dozens of times- the last one being Bo Burnham (How the world works)... I only just now "subscribed" because this is, far and away, my favorite Hamilton song, and it never ever gets the attention that it deserves. It actually comes back into a couple of other songs, as like a bridge of sorts, but this is where the mood gets set. Bravo IMO

Daveed Diggs is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. His rap here as Lafayette clocks in at 6.3 words per second. Only rapper on record at the time who is faster than that was Eminem at 6.46 words per second in a 15 second span. Daveed is well known for his incredibly fast rapping and knew Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and Chris Jackson (Washington) through a group they all participated in called Freestyle Love Supreme which was started by Lin Manuel in 2004. You should look up some of their videos sometime and do a reaction to them.

I think “History has its eyes on you” had a more powerful meaning. Washington is explaining why he hasn’t given Hamilton more power, because he’s been in Hams shoes and doesn’t want him to make the same mistakes as he did. He’s saying that Ham needs to understand that actions have consequences and they’re not playing around. It’s good stuff
