Honestly it's pretty well established that for a sit-com to perform well, they characters automatically have to be kind of bad people, but while FRIENDS and Seinfeld kind of spread out negative traits to make the group dynamic interesting and coherent while simultaneously showing people that their behavior never pays off, this show put every possible negative trait into one absolute manipulative sociopath and rather than punish him, the show pretty much continuously gives him a slap on the wrist and manages to reward him for treating people like objects only to be used for personal gain as long as he acknowledges his destructive tendencies around the end

What always kind of got me was how they always goofed on nerds, yet they were friends with one of the biggest nerds in school.
They included Screech in their group, but they weren't often kind to him, except for maybe Jessie and Kelly. But Lisa was a bitch to him. Slater could be a dick. And too often Zack was abusive toward Screech despite claiming him as his best friend.

I remember when the pilot episode first aired - right before the first episode of Super Mario Bros Super Show. Even then, as a second grader, I knew Zack Morris was full of shit. I never liked the show, and couldn't stay focused more than a couple minutes every time I came across the show. Amazingly bad show.
