    Nice catch with the RHA Spoon near the bouy Rob. I was there on Saturday near the Red house and caught 4 nice trout on garlic powerbait from 5AM-10AM. Very slow in the afternoon. Til next time Rob!

      Nice. I have found that at Big Bear in particular that the best times to fish are the first couple hours after sunrise and the last couple before sunset. Catching fish there midday has always been a grind in my experience

      No, its free to fish at Big Bear. The free fish day on the 1st just means you can fish anywhere in the state without a fishing license 🤘

      I would stick to the west end of the lake if your shore fishing. Red house and the dam are where most of the trout are going to be this time of year. I did a full video on how to fish big bear during the summer, here is the link: ruclips.net/video/DK4ECe13Fu4/видео.html

    Hey SeaSpanker!
    I'm visiting Alaska and fishing a city lake stocked with trout. However there is lots of vegetation between the shoreline and edge of the "curtain."
    Catachable fish are eating bugs, fry, and fingerlings just beyond the curtain and also in the middle of the lake. I do not have access to a boat or kayak. How would you fish this situation?

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      If your using a carolina rig I’d throw it just past the weeds with a longer leader as there are probably some shorter weeds underwater right by the weed edge. I would also use a bobber and cast in the same area just beyond the weeds. Just play with your leader length until you get bit. For the fish in the middle Id try a slip bobber or a conventional bobber with a weight so you can cast further. Again experimenting with the leader length until you get bit 🤘

      @@SeaSpankerOutdoors -- Thank you very much!
      Caught my first rainbow trout (11") in a stocked Anchorage lake using your advice. Casted a weighted, round bobber fixed 7" above the #1 mosquito hook just past the curtain and past all the shallow weeds. A dime sized amount of green PowerBait was the bait. Hooked a rainbow in about 11 minutes.
      WAY more effective than repeatedly casting small spinners only to drag them back through weeds over and over.

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, typically thats the scene over there. There’s a decent drop off giving you good access to deeper water as well as shallow areas so the trout like to congregate in that area 🤘

    Any suggestions on where and what to use to catch carp or catfish at big bear lake?

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  2 года назад

      I haven’t ever fished for cats at big bear but carp are located all over the lake. For carp I usually fish on the east end of the lake where its more shallow and use kernel corn out of a can on a small treble hook using a carolina rig. Carp are usually only about 10-15’ off the bank.

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors

      Yes, I use scent/attractant on most all of my bait and wait presentations. I dont have one scent I’m married too and use a wide variety at different times. I use Bang, smelly jelly, bite on, berkley trout dip, pro cure, etc. In all kinds of flavors corn, garlic, shrimp, shad, crawfish, anise, etc.

    Rob - re: your slip-bobber set-up ... I heard you are down 5'. I saw that you were ''baiting & waiting'' but did you ever flick the mousetail and provide movement, or does it do enough sitting still? The water looked completely calm.
    I'm 0 for 5 this yr. for trout. My son wants to eat a freshly caught one so bad. Good to know BBL will offer them all summer.

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  2 года назад

      From time to time I do and it works if the fish happens to be looking at your bait. One of the fish I lost on that day the bite was provoked by a wake. The water was calm and a boat drove up and as soon as the wake moved my bobber a bit it went down, so a little movement can work but its not essential.
      Keep trying and dont get discouraged. I have lots of skunk days as sometimes the fish just aren’t having it. The videos make it look like everywhere I go I just slay trout every time and that’s just not the case haha.

      Thanks for the heads up. I rewatched the video and saw that the few I actually handled were still in the water when I touched them making my hand wet when I touched the water. I am certainly not above criticism and believe that I can learn new things all the time. I have alot of videos on here and if you would be so kind as to go through them and find all the times I made mistakes and then leave a comment that will definitely help the channel and most importantly help me become better educated and grow as a person and angler 🙏

    • @Boojamb
      @Boojamb Год назад

      @@SeaSpankerOutdoors You squeezed the trout right on its guts then tossed it back in the water without helping it get some oxygen back in it, probly the worst trout release possible. Next time, gently net the fish, remove the hook, then place the fish in the current facing upstream, once it gets some water flowing through it's gills and starts to wiggle, gently release it. If there is no current, you can gently move the fish back and forth until it begins to breath normal. Imagine running a lap around your high school football field then getting dog piled while your breathing heavy.

    • @Boojamb

      The best thing you can do is to not remove the fish from the water, but if you must, try and cradle the entire fish, keep in mind where the guts are and don't be rough on that area.

    Nice work! How do you fish powerbait on a slip bobber because powerbait floats right?

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      There is a weight (egg sinker) about 8-12” up from the hook that pulls the line through the slipbobber to the depth that you set with the bobber stop and that weight will hold any floating bait down below the bobber. You can also fish powerbait under a regular bobber by putting a small splitshot a few inches above the hook effectively holding the powerbait down. Im working on a “fishing with bobbers video” to be released hopefully next week 🤘
