In todays trout fishing adventure, "Trout fishing in the heat of summer at Big Bear Lake" I'm back out at Big Bear Lake during a summer heat wave. Trout are a cold water fish and don't do very well when the water gets warm during the summer months, but that doesn't mean you cant get out there and get some to bite. I'll show you the tips and tricks to get some of these awesome fish to the net.
In this trout fishing video you will see the techniques I use to regularly catch trout including; how to fish mini jigs, how to fish spoons, how to fish the double dropshot, and tips and tricks for using bait set ups for trout.

Smorgasbord trout fishing for sure. What's really cool Rob is to see how much water is actually back in the lake thanks man.
Yeah that is definitely a good thing
Great work and great vid as usual 👍👍👍
Thanks Jake 🙏
Another Awesome video! Love to know we can catch Trout in the summer.
Thanks Randy. You sure can, its a bit tougher but definitely doable 🤘
Nice video, nice and bright. Love fishing that place back in the day!
Agreed, its definitely a great place to fish. I’m hoping to make some more videos up there very soon
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors Best of luck!
great video! good time fishing with you as always Rob
Thank you for posting this video!
Thank you for watching 🙏
Keep the great videos coming.
Another great video Rob 👍👍 Thanks again!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks Brother.
Awesome video, Brother. I just moved to Fort Irwin, California, and Big Bear is at the top of my list of lakes to visit!!!
Right on! There are a bunch of fish in those waters 🤘
Great video Rob 🤙
Thanks brother 🤘
Nice!
Awesome video love big bear. I go in evenings 4-10 pm they bite at night on slip bobbers full moon fish jumping
That’s definitely my favorite time to be up there 🤘
Thanks for the update Rob. This time of the year I try to stay away from big bear due to the heat, algae and boats and water toys
Absolutely right. Im always outta there before noon. Too hot and too many unsafe boaters
Awesome video Rob! Thank you for all the great tips!
1.) I see you are fishing on the the south side of the lake next to the dam. Do you think it is easier to hike down to the lake from the south side of the lake near the dam, or the north side near the dam?
2.) Why do you fish using Powerbait with a mosquito single hook rather than using a 14, 16, or 18 treble hook? It seems that it is much easier to keep Powerbait on a treble hook than a single hook.
3.) How is the algae at Big Bear right now. In the past when I've gone there in the fall, the algae and seaweed problem is horrible!!
Thanks again for all your videos and tips. Really appreciate all the help you provide!! 👍🤛🐟🐟
I dont know which side id consider easier, its kind of a pick your poison kind of thing. South side has big boulders and the north has steep hard packed slippery sand. With the lake as full as it is id say the south is easier.
The mosquitoes allow me to switch between powerbait and a micetail/worm without re tying.
The algae is manageable but its always bad in the summer at most lake 🤘
Love watchin ya catch those fish Rob 👊🏻 These new batch of trout are gonna be fun to catch come fall/winter!
Absolutely right brotha. Well have to get together and get after em🤘 Oh and dont forget Pyramid time is coming up again 😮
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors I’m so in! Big bear and Pyramid. We should totally do a fly fishing sesh at Big Bear!!! 😱😆🕺🏻
@@UntilJourneysEnd right on. I got the gear but your gonna need to school me up.
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors I’d love to! And then you gotta show me your jigging again because I still don’t have the rhythm 😂
@@UntilJourneysEnd definitely 🤘
Awesome video
Thank you 🙏
Great spot at the south side of the Dam. Hope to try that area one day. Great information as always Rob! 👍🎣 My friends and I had a great time catching trout at Twin Lakes and Lake George in Mammoth 2 weeks ago. Tight lines Rob!🎣
Thanks Paul. We are doin pretty well in the sierras. Got a few out of lower twin and some toads out of the Virginia lakes so far 🤘
@SeaSpankerOutdoors Pretty crowded in the summer time since the camp grounds are all open in the Mammoth Lakes area. Planning another trip in mid- October to avoid the crowds back to Mammoth Lakes area . 🎣 Hope to see your Sierra videos. Tight lines! Rob.👍
Awsome...Good to see some SO CAL
action. any catfishing lately?
Not yet but I plan to get out there and chase the kitty’s soon
Great vid man. 😊👍 Lovin em as always bro. I'm pretty familiar with Big Bear lake and I haven't seen that water spraying thing they had goin on over there between the damn and the barriers before. 🤔 I'm curious if that's for putting aireation (not sure i spelled that right🤦♂️) into the water for the fish??🤷♂️ Either way, during these months of the year the catch is definitely the best like you said...EARLY morning or at just before sunset. Keep em comin my friend, thanks for making this, and as always Peace. ✌😎
Yeah thats the aerator. They installed it a few years back to help keep the trout alive through summer 🤘
Great video rob always giving good tips! What are your 2 favorite spoons? I know one is morning glory, what’s another? Gonna be placing an order.
Definitely Jaw Breaker 🤘
Thanks for sharing, I need a rod for one of my reels, I want to use it for power bait and dropshots. I dont want something expenive, do you have any suggestons? Thanks
I use Daiwa spinmatic 8’ UL rods for bait and wait and you can also use them for dropshot. They are about $30-$50 depending on where you get them
Thx for the video and great job! Looking to head up there very soon. Is Green Valley worth stopping after Big Bear morning session?
Actually Im not sure. I was up there a week ago and the fish were really stressed from the heat but we were able to catch some. I plan to go back in a few days or so to check it out
Do you offer guide service? My son and I were just up there at the dam 6:10 am and no one was catching anything on both sides. Fishing with a slip barber at 5-10 & 15-20 feet.
I am a licensed guide and I take folks out here and there on request. If you want to set something out just message me on my instagram and well figure something out. That said, it may be a bit early in the season to start slipbobbers at the dam. Im going out there soon to do some scouting and see but most are still catching all over the lake from what I hear
Hey Rob
The runcl 5lb floro leader I don't see on there website. Trying to figure out which one to use?
No worries here is a link to the exact stuff i use on Amazon RUNCL PowerFluoro Fishing Line, 100% Fluorocarbon Coated Fishing Line, Fishing Leader Line - Virtually Invisible, Faster Sinking, Extra Sensitivity, Abrasion Resistance, UV Resistance - 300Yds, 5-32LB a.co/d/fgXMUIF
Hi Rob and thank you for the update. I'm heading out to Big Bear in a couple of weeks and planning to do some offshore fishing. What spinning reels under $100 would you recommend for the UL 7.6 rod setup? What spots would you recommend to check out? Thanks in advance:)
In that price range I really like the Diawa Legalis 1000. Great reel for the money. As far as spots at Big Bear most spots I used to fish are now underwater haha. I would concentrate on the west end of the lake. Boulder bay to the dam will hold the most trout this time of year 🤘
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors Thank you very much!
Rob, what did you think of the lake level at Big Bear. Suppose to be only 6 feet down whereas last summer it was down 17 feet.
Really happy to see the level back up for sure 🤘
Does Big Bear Lake have striped bass? I know they have them in Silverwood Lake but wondering if Big Bear has them too.
No they dont have any striped bass. They have largemouth and a growing small mouth population
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors They should stocked it with some new species, like striped bass, walleye, and pike. Would love to fish for more variety. I think it will bring lots of angler to the area if it has more variety of fishes.
@@walden6272I wish. It definitely would be nice to have more variety
Hey Rob what line do you have or use on you bait and wait ?
RUNCL 5lb PowerFluoro
Thanks, great presentation at the expo 👊🏻.
What kind of rod do you use
For slipbobbers I use an Okuma Celio 8' 6' Ul Spinning Rod CE-S-86ULa. For mini jigs I use the Katana #K1 7'6" and for spoons and other hardbaits I use the Katana #K5 7'6"
9’ UL overkill? Or go 8’?
No, not at all. I use a 9’ UL for slipbobbers but it can also be used for Carolina rigs and regular bait applications
What part of the lake you at??
Down by the dam on the south side
Great video man, every watch I learn something new. Caught 3 good size trout in a hour using the Carolina rig with powerbait. Thanks for all the knowledge man 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Right on brother thats what I like to hear 🤘
Nice!!
Thanks Lee
