    Just placed an order with you - enjoy your site and have learned a few things along the way. Keep it up - really like how you set up your spinners and spoons - will be ordering more in time. Also like your baby brook trout! Good colors, hooks etc. doing it right and better than the big shops.

    I used the Everett spoons this summer catching trout in Iowa. Spoons are so versatile. I have a huge spoon collection. Over spring break I used the trout worms and caught the shy elusive Guadalupe Bass down here in Texas.

    I fish in Ventura County California. Mostly in the ocean but sometimes in freshwater for catfish or bass or panfish. I love jigging spoons or other things while my kayak drifts. I looked at your website and before I knew what I was doing I bought 4 spoons. I even grabbed a 1/4 glow in the dark spoon for the ocean...... That will be interesting, I can charge it on my kayak from the sun easily, then run it on a Carolina style rig for trolling. If the glowing thing works it will catch some very strange fish...... I love being creative and using lures in strange ways. Thanks for the video and my newest spoons.

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  2 года назад

      You can. I like to tie right to the spoon. That way you’re checking your knot every so often and snipping off a few inches of bad line. I don’t like the snaps, they just add to the profile of the spoon of your trying to make it a more natural presentation.

    I think you put your hooks on backwards, well compared to how I do it yours are backwards, spoons travel with the paint facing down unless they are spinning, having your hooks so the tip faces up gives you better chances of skimming over logs/weeds and other snags.

    I've never thought about switching the trebles over to single hooks. What is the benefit of this? Easier to release the fish without causing as much damage?
    Also, what size are the single hooks and what are those little rings called that the barrel swivels attach to?

    Aren't some spoons like Thomas Buoyants specifically intended to wobble back and forth instead of spinning? I put swivels on my Buoyants and it just killed the action. Then I removed the swivels, tied direct and they wobbled fine with no line twist.

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  2 года назад

      Yeah it depends. If you’re just doing a straight retrieve. I fish mine pretty aggressively with pops and different kinds of retrieves. Spoons aren’t that bad, but if you fish them all day long, you’ll probably get some twists. You can always put a swivel 1-2ft above the spoon so you can tie directly to the spoon still.

      All rods don’t feel the same so you’ll want to experiment. One company’s light rod might feel like a medium rod. I have a 7ft rod that’s supposed to be medium fast and feels like a medium light that works good for spoons and spinners. Agree w him on the rod length. 7ft-7ft2 is sweet spot for me as well. Tight lines 🤙🏽

      I like the longer rods for loading up on the fish. The shorter rods seem yo have less of a parabolic bend to them or just turn to the stiffer but section too quick. The longer rods (depending on action) can load up nicer and keep the fish pinned especially with single hooks.

    I'm outdoorsy but I'm much better at small game hunting than fishing. I'm a poorly performing fisherman and I'm working on it. I only have decent luck deep in the wilderness in lakes with pistol pete flies. I once watched a guy who claimed to pull up to 30 trout in an hour off this. Mark Baca. I thought he was exaggerating cause people do but I timed him. I swear that almost every cast was a hook. He caught 27 trout at monastery lake in Pecos,NM. He had to keep throwing trout back because I believe at the time it was a limit of 5. All this in an hour. Our politics were way too different though to be friends. Btw that was all in one hour!! I remember driving back to his place to fry the fish and all the while I was in a surreal state marveling at the phenomenon I just witnessed. People at the lake were in AWE! He got alot of hate. Some guy was saying he should leave fish for the kids but at any time he only had 5 in the stringer basket .He used the larger green pistol petes with a mealworm in the hook on the leader and an eagle claw bubble he filled with water on the main line. It was the mid size one and he filled it all the way. I'm trying to learn jigs, softbaits, spoons,spinners etc. because what if you don't have pistol petes?! My specialty is navigation. I'm a master there especially celestial navigation
