The Corner, The Wire, and Treme are amazing. They transcend mere art and delve into something much deeper.

Everything both of these guys said was really insightful, and also, Wendell Pierce is really likeable, he's like the chilled out badass uncle everyone wishes they had.

The Wire is perhaps my favorite show of all time. Loved the writing, the acting and the characters. I go back so many times just to watch it. I am only now getting into Treme.

Because they are the 10th best in New Orleans, they won't get any more notice than the 20th, 30th, or 40th best. New Orleans is so deep in accomplished musicians that if someone can't make a gig, most band leaders can make less than 3 phone calls to find a suitable replacement. and many of the working musicians don't worry about music genres or styles. most in New Orleans can play it all.

I don't agree with Simon about the drug war in its entirety. If all drugs were legal how does he know that we wouldn't lose that many people and more to addiction? How does he know that the killings would stop? Perhaps the deaths would be postponed, but still end up dead by overdose. It's a simple thing to say "legalize all drugs" but he aftermath is another story altogether.

I loved the cast of Treme and was impressed by the acting and exposure to that New Orleans history but I fast forwarded a lot watching the episodes because much of the music was just fuqen terrible and repetitive.

@ 28:48 Simon talks says that "the 10th best piano player in New Orleans is probably the 1st best piano player in any other city," but is most likely making nothing to little for money. If the Piano player is as good as Simon says he is, then he would be making a lot. The piano player should enlist his talent to a record label, which would be more than happy to sign on someone who is the best piano player in about any city. I do not think Simon is realistic in his conceptions.
