I have a 2017 gen 3 and lifted it at 5,000 miles. Needle bearing started vibrating in less then a week. Replaced the needle bearing with an ECG bushing. No more vibrations and over 100,000 miles on the clock. Between 15,000 and 20,000 miles of all types of off road driving. I’m very happy!!!!
And as an added bonus you get to learn how to pull a CV Axle FTW! Thanks for the info, I got my 2020 O.R. 4 days ago. While my 2002 will be the primary off road vehicle, I’ve kinda been looking around on R4T & TW at mods. BTW, looking forward to getting my Pro Grille that I ordered from you yesterday!
I have a 2Gen yota, the diff's look about the same. Just wondering whats the depth the axle oil seal is set to when installed? Flush with housing? Or 5.5mm, or until it stops?
Questions, I changed out the passenger side only due to a hard knock I heard. When I took it of it looked bad. Replaced with new but now I hear a whistling noise and a small leak. What are your thoughts? Great video btw 💪
Yes driver's side only. Get the ECGS bushing not Yukon or whatever comes with ARB kit. 14k miles after regear , lift, and lockers and mine is leaking and rattles at low speeds on bumps. Stick with the ECGS bushing and oil seals!
I am getting a 2" leveling kit installed for for my' 22 TRD Sport in a couple weeks. Is it recommended to do this procedure as well. Thanks for the input

I have a 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road with 11,000miles and I already have the pulsing vibration/groaning noise around 37mph in the front diff. Goes away once in 4H but there in 2H. I have a small lift which might have made it worse. But I have seen many threads of others experiencing it in 2022 models as well with little mileage on them. Not sure if Toyota will update the TSB from 2019, or if they will cover it with it being lifted.
I have a 19 4runner bone stock, I had the needle bearing failure twice!! First time I got a new carrier assembly from Toyota, 2nd time I got the ECGS bushing, eliminated all problems , no regrets at all.
@@sparksglencoe2037 Yes, there is a TSB for the 2019 but I was hoping that if enough people complain and get it fixed, there will be a an update to newer years as well. Then they can't blame the lift. I took it in and mentioned it and the technician said it was my tires, which I highly doubt as tires would be more constant and at many different speeds. And like before it goes away once 4H is engaged. I also have my Automotive Tech Certificate and I'm very sensitive to these things anyway.
@xack5810 I agree with you, I doubt they will do any major updates unless they start producing a new generation... regardless of how many people complain ( and there are many I assume), as with you at first, my technician blamed it on cupped tires , next time I went In ,I was adamant and showed them the TSB and they replaced the front diff under warranty... after noticing the issue coming back , I just decided to get the ECGS bushing and to date have been happy since install
2023 Tacoma with 200 miles. I decided to do the ECGS bushing at the same time as a 2" lift. Now there is a slight pulsing vibration at 35ish only in 2wd. I added shims to the rear axle with no change. I added the diff drop with no change (I'd like to remove it). I did the exact same setup (minus the diff drop) to my 2018 Tacoma and it was perfect. I'm not sure what to look for now. Tires have 400 miles on them so its not treadwear. Suspension is tight. it's a new truck. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
I did a 2 inch lift for my 3rd Gen and when turning the wheel I get a small click, or pop. Is that what this is for? The dealer mentioned something about this I believe.
@@Runnin4Tacos the dealership foreman who had been dealing with lifted Tacos and Tundras and 4Runners for 20+ years said it’s pretty common and nothing is wrong. This is only on a 4wd correct? I have an '07 tacoma pre0runner 2WD that I've added a suspension lift and I get a good shudder/vibration at low speeds. Mostly when initially accelerating. Could it be due to the drive train at an angle it's not designed for sicne the rear is lifted 2.5" more than stock?

No, this is an issue on every generation as far as I know. And also 4Runners and Tundras. But not the 2wd or the full time 4wd versions like the Limited 4Runners.
Could anyone describe the vibration and hum they’re getting? I got a trd lift installed and then noticed that I was getting an intermittent (on off.. on off.. on off etc) humming/vibration in the steering wheel and pedal

How much of a lift?
*IMPORTANT* the ECGS bushing is made for almost all years Tacoma's AND 4Runner's, not just 3rd gen Tacoma's

I did this in my 5th gen 4runner within 6 months of lifting. Agreed...it is cheap insurance on your differential.
Good content as always! Very nice explanation as well. Please keep it going.
So what are the special tools called and when do you get them ?
Excellent video...thanks for sharing. You said the noise/vibration appears only in 2wd. So does the noise/vibration go away in 4wd?
Yes

I got same issue with 2013 Tacoma.
Me too 2013 Tacoma same problem put the 4x4 on vibration gone instantly it's the needle bearing gone... Factory defect.

I ended up with 2 bushings one from each and one from the locker manufacturer. Should I just replace both needle bearings when I open up the diff?
So I should change the needle bearing as well even if I have just a 3 inch leveling kit in front 2 1/2 in block in back.
I would.Have the same lift and had to replace due to noise.
With less than a 3" lift, isn't this why you do a diff drop? To correct the angle on the drivers side axle??
Is this failure common with trucks using Toyotas TRD lift ? Or is the 2” not enough to worry about.
Same
My 19 4runner is bone stock and it failed twice!!
I wonder how much the super light gear oil contributes to this failure.
How is a bushing better than an actual bearing??
Do you just need to replace it on the drivers side?

Not necessary until you go for bigger tires. But it doesn't hurt to do this.

Dealerships are extremely picky about modified trucks. They will blame anything on the modification so they do not have to cover it.

Best to take the lift kit off before taking it back to the dealer for any warranted work.

A metal shaft spinning inside a solid metal bushing seems like that won't last long
You guy sell the tool also?
Super cheap? Doesnt that thing cost $80 on your website?
Oct 2024 and it's $75 for that bearing.... jesus what on earth, how can we say that's inexpensive???

do a driveshaft carrier drop
Not to be stupid, but do you do this to both sides?
Usually just the drivers side. The “clamshell” style front differential is not symmetrical.
if this needle bearing is dead , it can vibes the car at highway speed ? 60/65 mph
Is the needle bearing only for the driver side or do you do both passenger and driver?
drivers side
Keeping my shit stock , lifted does look nice
Regret lifting my truck. Looks nice, but the lift cause extra problems and extra cost. It drove better stock anyways.

It that a solid part or it has needle bearing inside
Its solid and smooth inside. I installed it on my 2022 4 runner TRD Pro.

Honestly, that could be caused by anything. You would have to physically inspect underneath the truck to see what it is.
Needle bearing is gone driver's side only. Tacoma factory defect my 2013 was doing the same thing
Do you recommend doing it even if you put in Bilstein 5100s?
Naw, 5100's are pretty much OEM replacements.

Yes, this applies to other Toyotas. But not the full time 4wd models.
