I’m confused how could he not have seen a kitchen knife flying out of the tv screen trying to kill him? And how did she throw it out of the tv screen when she was SITTING on the couch behind him watching the extradimensional creature on the tv screen with him!?!?!?????
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Some people just don't know how to follow instructions. Though, wouldn't it work better to put a big old padlock on the cabinet? Maybe wrap a few chains around it? It's not going to break it, but it should keep some of the issues under control. Thinking back, this tale reminds me of my grandparent house in Maple Shade New Jersey. There was a room directly to the left of the front door that was never used for entering or exiting. You came in through the back, which was more of a side door, really. The room was dark. Very rare that any lights were on and the curtains were drawn all the time. It had two entrances, one by the door, as mentioned, and another toward the hallway across from the downstairs guest room. That entrance was adorned with parlor doors, like an old Western saloon. Aside from the darkness, it was foreboding due to a large clock, the pendulum loudly keeping time as it swung back and forth. So you'd be going to the bathroom (which was next to the guest bedroom) and you'd just hear this "TICK TOCK TICK TOCK" coming from a lightless room. I rarely went in there. Not because I wasn't allowed but because it weirded me out.
the disturbing implication to it not being locked is that the grandpa actually makes use of it himself sometimes, frequently enough that locking it would be an inconvenience. Maybe the "display room" isn't just pure boomer material fetishism after all

I had the most tiniest black-and-white TV growing up. It took rabbit ears with tinfoil in order to get to even go onto a channel and usually was PBS

She was never actually on the couch, it was just a projection, and he didn't notice because of the exaggerated mesmerizing effect of the Retrovision.
