- Jan Frodeno won back-to-back Ironman World Championship titles and the 2008 Olympic gold medalist was looking to create a bit of a dynasty here on the Big Island. Then he had back issues and walked a bunch of the marathon in 2017 and, while winning the 2018 Ironman 70.3 World’s title, he hurt his hip and couldn’t get to the start line last year. He won a hot race in Frankfurt this summer and would like nothing better than to win his third Ironman World Championship title this year.

It doesn't get better than frodeno, well spoken, class act
It's going to be a sad day when Jan retires.
Might happen in a few days :(
Indeed. I think we're in a golden age of the Kona Ironman and as Bob has said in many of his interviews, the field just keeps getting better every year, and this year again is perhaps "the best ever". The only thing that could have made it better is if a healthy Javier Gomez was there also.
The wise man of Triathlon
So many words of wisdom in such a short time
This field is LOADED. And this guy’s gonna show them all once again who the King is 👑 #frodissimo
This was the best triathlon interview I've ever seen. Jan is a beast and such a humble athlete. Very inspiring.
The comment about Cam Wurf and Instagram was HILARIOUS!!
There are a few great athletes to support here but listening to Jan during that interview convinced me that Jan would be such a worthy winner. Humble, wise, humorous and a great champion..
This is the most exciting field in years!
adrian b I agree! I wouldn’t mind a little bit of trash talk though. Ego clashes make the race more interesting IMO.
A genuine class act.
Agree. Jan, Sebi, Javier, Lionel, T.O. (to name just a few) so talented and confident, yet so humble, respectful and hard working. The sport is in good hands.
Love that man. Absolute legend.
such a great interview and humble athlete
Top bloke! Very humble champion.
The one I was waiting for. Man, this guy is so insightful and well spoken, he could go for hours.
Hope you claim your crown big man.
he is the man...period.
Grossartiges Feld. Viel Erfolg Jan!
One of the best triathlon interviews, well done Bob and Jan!
I enjoy the skill with which Bob asks great questions and makes it look easy. He's like a a master chef preparing a dish, he starts from scratch knowing what the finish product will look like, taking the time to carefully add just the right ingredients at just the right time, and when it's ready he serves it up on a platter as if to say "there you go"...then sits back in anticipation of the response. It's good stuff.
Mike A and Bob knows how to let his guest speak, uninterrupted.
Mike, thank you so much. Very kind of you. I just think these athletes are very special, and it is such an honor to get to talk with them, and to gain insight into their thinking and reflections on their races, training, fellow competitors, ups, and downs, and challenges they have overcome.
@@pavanatanaya Yes absolutely!
@@babbittville Bob, well said and we the viewers are all the better for it! Thank you for taking the time to reply during what we know is a very busy week for you. Cheers!
I'd love to see Lionel, Frodo, and Sebi get off the bike together , chase down Wurf, and have the new Iron War
plus Ali
Lange is a better Runner though...
"And the question is how hard is that person riding beforehand".....best pro comment I've heard
Shots have been fired.. :D
Amazing athlete, even better human. GOAT.
Jan seems like a great guy and such an example person.
The GOAT
With all the Breakfast with Bob 2019 episodes to watch, this was the one I was waiting for...great ambassador for the sport. Can’t wait for this year’s race! Top interviewing too, Bob 🤙
Thank you!
And the 2019 Ironman World Champion ... JAN FRODENO!!!
Jan Frodeno = Ehrenmann lvl 💯
Great interview😊
I love these triathletes and the small, hilarious digs they make at one another. With a sport this brutal, there is only respect amongst competitors. So refreshing.
Smart, very smart
Champion and ambassador... Fan fav for the win!
Some golden nuggets in there, such a wise old fox... Top Man Frodo
beautiful man/athlete through and through! So Excited to watch this epic battle!!
Fantastic interview

Congrats on 10,000 subs on RUclips, Bob!
Great great athlete 🤘
It’ll be a sad day when both Jan and Bob retire. Both are top class professionals.
A really good interview, Jan is such an articulate guy, this years race is going to be brilliant.
Great. I am Looking Forward to the race
Legend. Would love to see Frodo just dominate.
A true legend
Great Win
Great interview Bob, jan such a character, comment on Cam on insta made me laugh so much 🚵♀️ insta 🤣🤣
I have to say that while all of the German Trio speak English fluently and with ease, Frodeno sounds the most natural. Pained to say this, as a Kienle fan.
Krzysztof Kajetanowicz Its cause he lived most of his childhood in South Africa.
Love u Jan
Absolute legend. I’m all in for Lionel, but want to see Jan absolute destroy everyone.
In the same boat
This guy is funny.
Both Jan and Sebi have said Lionel will have his best performance here this year boyos! Lets go!
Jan you are such a wonderful abassador for the sport and so well spoken about the pro field. A truly respectful athlete. all the best.
Wurf’s 2:45 in Italy leading up to this race i with this type of field same as 2:55 in Switzerland leading up to last year. Well this year will be 2:35 Marathon for the win
what a nice guy... Easily the athlete I'd love to buy a beer...
Go get it Frodo
Pure pro
a full healthy field. Excited is an understatement!
Burn Cam Wurf! HAHAH :D Jan the Legend!
Bob’s been struggling to get his head round Patrick’s 7:52 all week :D
True champ!
Frodooooo
Lol @Cam comment.
How did he get the stress fracture in the first place?
Sacral is most likely to being too thin for too long.
Jan looking lean
This year the level of racing will be down to the wire.I think there actually about 8 guys who absolutely can win it,which means Jan will win it.lol
16:40 little but spot-on jab at Langes 2:39 marathon last year after riding 180k just behind Andi Dreitz without switching

ShunkopleX grew up in South Africa
