    Simple and insightful questions to the true legend of our sport. Alistair has to be given credit for being consistent, this is exactly what he did while on the ITU circuit. Like it or not, he is not here to play. In this situation he picked the wrong fight, but you have to admire the fight in the dog.
    Jan, you are a class act and have elevated the game both athletically and professionally! Enjoy the gift in your off season.

    Alistair’s reaction when he caught back up after the tire change is why he will likely never win this race. Jan is an absolute legend. Bravo!

    • @rych7852
      @rych7852 4 года назад +7

      He possibly assumed that they wouldn't hit it hard and drop him because it was better to have him at the front with them, sharing the work to make sure they didn't get caught by the chase pack before T2. A hangover from his ITU days of course.
      He wont make that mistake again.
      This was his 1st attempt. Few smash it on their first visit. He has time and age on his side. He also has the intelligence and resources to go home, accept he got beat, and completely overhaul his training and tactics for next year. You write him off at your peril. I don't imagine Frodeno is thinking AB will never beat him here.

    • @bobbybostic7947
      @bobbybostic7947 4 года назад +5

      You could read a little into how Jan said it that Alistair implied that Jan should have waited for him... From what I’ve read about him over the years Alistair likes to bully others in the bunch because of “who he is”. That’s the way it came across here. - - - - All of that aside, watching Jan race yesterday was simply amazing. His move to pull ahead in the closing miles of the bike was one for the ages.

    • @zikaperic2133

      @@rych7852 But even in ITU, I am not aware that if you have a puncture someone will wait for you, or?

    • @rych7852
      @rych7852 4 года назад +1

      You don't, but when he's been off the front at ITU, they drop anyone not helping. But keep those that are. So that the bunch gets to T2 with an advantage.
      I'm guessing he assumed the same would apply. You want a big advantage into T2. So as he clearly hadn't blown up, and had been helping with the work at the front, assumed they'd see the benefit of letting him get back on easily.
      Like I say, he'll learn from this.

      @@klausdauer was just referring to Frodo's comment about Allistar's attitude about them not waiting for him and that he might be a little cocky. Macca didn't respect Kona and just expected to come in and be up there if not win it and it was a long and arduous journey to success in Kona for McCormack.

      Zika Peric it’s cycling etiquette to not attack on a puncture, especially given they were both in the leading group. Jan should’ve ridden tempo

    • @bobbybostic7947
      @bobbybostic7947 4 года назад +3

      Zika Peric - - - - I guess saying etiquette plays into what Jan needs to or doesn’t need to do assumes A) Alistair informed him he was stopping for a new wheel or B) Frodo had any idea he was off for mechanical reasons. From what we have here, Jan looked back and Alistair was gone. It’s not Jan’s job to spend time researching the reasons why people drop off the pace and if unsure to wait for them.
