- Patrick Lange went 7:52:39 in 2018 and became the first person to break the 8 hour barrier here in Kona. Patrick is the new Dave Scott. Don’t worry too much about what happens during the season, just wait and see what Patrick delivers in October when the results matter the most.

What a superb human being. A level of inner confidence that if we could bottle it and make a fortune. He understands how the island brings the best out of him & agreed Jan is a superb athlete, but something about Patrick that exudes power, the German athletes have it in abundance. Going to be 1 helluva race Saturday, have a feeling 3 maybe 4 athletes will toe 2 toe for entire day
Champion is the one who wins Championships regardless if he/she isn't likable. If Patrick wins 3rd time ppl will start to like him more but some will never understand the awkwardness/shyness of being great e.g Kilian Jornet.
I like the Kilian comparison..... Patrick has a huge future ahead of him... sorry for his woes yesterday, but he'll be back..............

Why exactly do many people/triathlon fans don't like Patrick Lange?
Is it because of his "character" or because of his style of competing in triathlon?
I'm German myself and noticed that especially in Germany many people don't like him.
I just wonder why. Personally, I don't have the impression that he is a douchebag or sth.
To me he just seems very nervous and affected by the pressure and maybe "public opinion" about him.

@@danielricci5059 Now that's quite a controversial statement. While we shouldn't be naive and think that the sport of triathlon is immune from doping, I think that this topic isn't an exclusively German one. I also don't think that an athlete's nationality automatically determines wether or not he/she uses performance enhancing drugs.
maxisamael Two things: Wasn't a statement, it was a question. And, check the history books on Germans whom won world titles that were later caught doping even after not testing positive. Again, questions. Not statements. Statements would be naive certainly.
@@danielricci5059 Ah ok, then I misunderstood you. I had the impression that this was a statement wrapped in a rhetorical question. And yeah, some German athletes for sure don't have a clean slate. Just like some athletes from other countries. But that doesn't justify the use of performance enhancing drugs of course.

@@spencemaddy Yes, I realize that is an issue. But IF they start doing triathlons, they will figure that out. Perhaps train in Europe or the US. It may take an immigrant to break the ground.

@@careywaldie6735 They failed in swim and run despite the training and therefore their run advantage was negligble. So far what we learned only professional bikers and swimmers can enter Triathlon with an advantage.
puh, bin etwas schockiert. schlechtes englisch und wenig medienerfahrung hin oder her, aber patrick wirkt hier völlig verunsichert, überhaupt nicht selbstbewusst und hat eine miese körpersprache. bin sehr gespannt, ob er mit widerrum "schlechten" pre-kona-resultaten, alle in die schranken weist - ich glaube es nicht.
Bewertet seine Leistung am Samstag und nicht sein Englisch ihr Deppen.

Unsympatisch wie immer...
Er ist sicherlich nicht der sympathischste, aber ich glaube das hat auch unglaublich viel damit zu tun dass er einfach 0 medienerfahrung hat und einfach erst seit 4 jahren Profi ist + unsicher ist wenn er englische Interviews geben muss.. Jan ist da einfach das komplette Gegenteil, total erfahren, seit über 10 Jahren Profi, englischsprachig aufgewachsen und mit einem ganz anderen Charisma ausgestattet.. Gegen Sebi und Frodo sieht Patrick einfach Unglücklich aus was Sympathie angeht aber mmn wird ihm da bisschen zu viel Unrecht getan..
Vllt täusche ich mich ... aber Patrick sieht unglaublich schlecht aus ... normalerweise spricht er ja ganz gut englisch ... hier stottert der sich da ein ab ... wirkt fast als hätte er so einen Mini schlaganfall... würde zittern oder sowas ... nuschelt... hält sich auch bei 8-10 min mit der rechten Hand den Bauch ....

@@vioo46 Da sieht man was Medienerfahrung ausmacht. Jan war nämlich live ziemlich herablassend. Bin trotzdem Fan von beiden^^
Ich finde ihn nicht unsympathisch. Sein Englisch ist heute nicht so gut, aber man hat da gute und schlechte Tage. Man kann eine Fremdsprache nicht jeden Tag super sprechen. Völlig normal.
I think Bob needs to stop saying “RIGHT”.... it’s really annoying... Also, Lange is probably the most underwhelming pro since Welch...
