    I still have OG Longhaul from 2009. I still remember the day I got him, my parents wouldn't let me open him till I got home haha, that day felt like forever since we were out late at night. Now he's super loose and does not like to stand well or stay in any pose.

    I guess for me, even since being a kid, I’ve always preferred to like the look of my figures over the gimmicks. Gimmicks can be fun when I first get the figure, but especially a lot of this movie stuff I just can’t get past the look. I’m not much a fan of those movies anyways, and I find a lot of the bayverse studio series stuff to feel a lot worse then the regular mainline stuff, so I’ve never gotten into them. Even when I was a kid and saw these older figs on the shelf’s I avoided them like the plague lol. But now that I’m older I realize that there’s a vast mindset when it comes to collecting, some people want toys to play with, others want action figures, others want 100% complete screen accurate versions. I don’t think any of the old toys are really “better”, more so just different. Same way I feel about MP, not all of them are necessarily better, they just achieve something that other lines aren’t doing- “complete” accuracy to the show or movie models. These older figures obviously prioritized the experience of playing with a toy, while the new stuff prioritizes transforming action figures and an updated take on their original designs ( or in the studio series case, as close to accuracy as they can get)

    • @theturnedtable2605

      I'll be honest with a hot-take here and say that I really do not like DS's design choices for that Devastator. Devastator himself looks insanely fucking good but that Scavenger for example is just... not great. He looks too much like a giant version of the legends figure and it astounds me to know that HasTak's Scavengers has a better-looking robot mode than DS's.

    Really odd since my SS Longhaul stands on his own, but mine’s the single pack. Maybe it’s an issue on the Box Set? Eh he’s permanently a leg anyway.
    I got a RotF Long Haul incomplete and I still love it. One day I’ll get a complete one, and maybe this Payload version. The G2 colors look so goooood.
    My favorite TF toyline is probably still Combiner Wars. I know, repaint wars but I love the gimmick. I bought extras to make my custom combiners, I love it so much.

    1:21 You've got a PO box now. That means you have an excess of boxes. Start cutting them down and building risers for your figures. It's super easy, makes the display look so professional. I made mine using white cardboard and honestly you can't tell what they are standing on. It doesn't need to be pretty, the focus is the figures.

  • @Slimshadow457
    @Slimshadow457 2 года назад +2

    HFTD and ROTF NEST are to me peak Transformers. SO many absolutely incredible moulds today I still regularly just mess and play around with. So much character and personality. Terradive, Tomahawk, Mindwipe, Skystalker (can we TALK about that entire freakin Scout class?!), Seaspray, Battle Blades Bee, Brawn, Lockdown, Hailstorm, Dirge...!
    And that's not even including the various revisitings they did of other characters: Sideswipe with the guns, Deluxe Ironhide, Voyager Optimus,...
    Nah, that era was just the best man. Even CHUG were absolutely killing it back in those days, and I'm still trying to track down everything I can from that era. It really is unmatched imo. I get why. Cost of plastic's gone way up, inflation and things like that, but still.

    • @ratfarmer1

      I have almost all of these, absolutely incredible era

  • @baruscream7279
    @baruscream7279 2 года назад +12

    Hunt for the Decepticons (Autobot Alliance) was such a legendary line; I love almost every single figure from that era. The figures were well-made, with complex transformations (not frustrating) and gimmicks that almost never compromised the figures (sometimes making them even better). My best picks would be:
    * Deluxe Class Battle Blade Bumblebee: The axe, the transformable cannon (which we would never see implemented in any other Bumblebee figure after this one) and the battle mask; the best Bumblebee until the Movie Masterpiece came out. Period. A bit out of scale, but the best deluxe class Bumblebee to date in my opinion.
    *Deluxe Class Ironhide: My favorite version of Ironhide before the Studio Series version came out; good quality, guns that were integrated into the transformation and a drone that homaged his ROTF The Game special ability. Quite clean in both modes and with a lot of articulation for the time.
    *Deluxe Class Jetblade: A movie-styled conehead? Count me in! An amazing take on a jet Decepticon; really interesting twists on the transformation, the hand is perfectly integrated in the cockpit, the top transforms into the blade and the head splits in two so the head doesn't get in the way while getting to the alt mode. A bit of excess on the kibble department, but an overall amazing toy.
    *Deluxe Class Terradive: Does this figure even need any introduction? Ridiculously clean transformation; it's amazing what the designers did with the nosecone, simply brilliant. Totally kibble-free in both modes, a trident, arms that turn into cannons due to actually being his thrusters... Also, the wings are dope and the articulation is nuts.
    *Voyager Class Highbrow: Modified WW2 P-38 Lightning? Functional engines? Please, stop this! Yep, I know he actually doesn't have propper arms, but I can overlook it. The transformation is really good, the pieces sorrounding the cockpit actually transform (and allow you to give him a seeker look), the head includes a helmet gimmick and the colors are spot on.
    *Voyager Class Battle Blades Optimus Prime: A holy grail of mine that I got a few months ago. Holy mother of Primus, one of the best movie Optimus Prime figures ever made (yep, even better than the MPM and the ROTF Leader Class in my opinion). He does pretty much everything that the Leader Class does, but at a smaller scale. And, as if it wasn't enough, he includes a removable matrix, removable battle blades and removable ion blasters made out of his gas tanks. Go home, Prime, you are just too much, we don't deserve you.
    *Voyager Class Seaspray: Again, we don't deserve him. The transformation is simple but genius, especially for the feet. The head, the back and the feet include diving equipment detail that give him more personality and, if that's not enough for you, he has space in the back on alt mode for a legends figure.
    *Leader Class Starscream: My favorite figure of the line and of my entire collection. This toy is so good that Takara repainted it and sold it as the first MPM figure. Transformation to get to Dorito mode is amazing, the missile and gatling gun gimmicks are hidden perfectly inside his forearms, and the fact that the missile lancher can be attached to complete the underside of the jet is just the cherry on top.
    Sorry for the text review, but I cherish this line so much that I could write about it forever. Hope to see more reviews of these figures in the future :)
    Greetings from Ecuador!

    i have the original long haul and it definitely shows its age, the joints are inconsistent and the waist connection will pop every chance it gets, but its still way fun to fiddle with due to the sheer number of joints in the limbs and kibble, you can even flip the vehicle mode upside down and stretch the truck bit up into a fanmode that vaguely resembles a leg, which is pretty fun but very useless

    Payload/Long Haul is probably in my opinion the best Decepticon mold of all time.

    Great video! I never grew up with this line so it might just be that but I do prefer the studio series line but not all the figures are good. I wish studio series Optimus came with swords I can not find dotm Optimus under 200$

    This figure is good but I never figured out how to transform it properly. I could never get the legs in it was so frustrating. I also generally prefer the SS version anyway by virtue of better posability and ofc the combined mode. I also don't like how this figure looks he's too spindly. It's not an accuracy thing just don't like the design

    Did you have your SS Devastator transformed the official way or the four legged fan way?

    About BUFF proportions,for me it’s plus because Pay load was skinnier and transformed in smaller vehicle than long haul,and in his situation it‘s +

      Except, he doesn’t. He’s literally the same exact vehicle. So is overload, he just has an articulated bed.

    Your SS Long Haul seems to have pretty loose knees. Mine are tight enough to hold him well in that idle pose, maybe the SS69 is looser or something?
