    3:52 "I would argue it looks more like a toy [from McDonald's]." It's funny because there was a small run of Galidor toys from McDonald's to promote the show in ~2003! I personally had the Nick and Jens toys from that promotional line.

    I don't know where I read it, so don't quote me on this, but I heard Galidor was so bad that most, if not all, of Bionicle's profits went to recouping the losses from Galidor.

    • @Darkoriax17

      It’s the fact the figures were overpriced. The Kek Powerizer (a large exoframe for the figures) was about 200 dollars and it incorporated the earliest iteration of Mindstorm NXT devices.

    • @PartParakeet
      @PartParakeet 19 дней назад +8

      @@Darkoriax17 The Kek Powerizer was $60 in 2002, which equates to about $105 in 2024. For context, Nick Bluetooth sold for $10 in 2002 (around $17 now). Tahu Nuva, also released in 2002, retailed for a mere $8 (~$14 in 2024). While I agree that the Powerizer and the TDN were overpriced, the figures themselves weren't too far out of step with Bionicle and arguably offered you more plastic, albeit of limited use.

    if they decided to revisit this series and make a brick-built version of this humongous ship with modern bricks & tech, Even at Minifig scale, I reckon it'd actually sell immensely well in the modern day if for nothing else but the nostalgia factor alone, as a sort of "look what almost bankrupt us, now you can recreate it now that we're a gigantic conglomerate megacorporation!"

    3:52 so if I was the designer of this that one large cockpit would have been about 6 different pieces at least and it would have more connection points so that it could be integrated into other Lego sets, ied keep as much of the smooth shell as possible but you have to remember what makes Lego so cool, you can take any part from any set and mix and match to your hearts content.
    9:00 and that’s the biggest problem you really shouldn’t need a screwdriver to take it apart, if Lego had stuck with a stud idea I bet this set would have sold far better as you have people like me that that would have brought it bontebok for the brand but because were like oh cool I can see that been really useful in X I mean I brought the Lunar base set for its parts not for it and the whole new space set is really cool for its interconnected module idea, I can see me working it into a few ships (I’m a spaceship guy always have been 😊).

    Imagine if Lego had been a bit more proactive, and acquired the rights to Centurions (which I believe was playing on Toonami around the time), or tried to produce something similar to that instead of Galidor! Interchangeable parts on a Base Action Figure to fit different scenarios, as well as the ability to build different parts out of standard Lego. Power Extreme, to Infinity and Beyond!

    Galidor really does have unseen potential. But I once tried to make some kind of Generator Rex moc with Nick's body, and it required SO much sanding because I tried to use the newer ratcheted joint bricks. I had to sand down his shoulders and legs because they were obstructive. Then I realized what a waste of time it was because it ended up being an ugly mess.

    With how many individual components the ship's body is made of, each requiring their own mold AND final assembly into the completed ship, it must have taken a lot of cash for Lego to produce. Just from a rough count, it looks like 24 individual shapes not including possible duplicates. No wonder they were losing money on these things when sales didn't go according to plan.

    The line had a lot of potential. I think if they leaned into incorporating more system parts they would have seen a huge turnaround. Imagine instead of swapping Nicks arm for a premolded grabby hand you instead build a compact rubber band driven gripper. Something kids could add on to and use their own parts to build cannons and jet engine legs. So much potential...
