    Bold of them to declare themselves as a direct competitor of the sims. Not that it's a high bar these days but now they HAVE to commit, they HAVE to out-do and they HAVE to deliver. Othewise they're just another upstart that failed to keep promises. We've seen it happen over and over with a lot of games who might deliver but never manage to do better than their "competition".

      it is rather bold. I see a lot of people claim a company is- but this is the first time I have seen a company so directly state it. While some may mention sims, they tend to sidestep and say they are inspired by it instead. So not sure how to feel? It is interesting though that they stated it as a combo of sims and sim city

    For those who play Sims and that's it, it may not be what you want. For those who enjoy many different simulation style games I think it will be a win. Any time you play a game like this you have to shrug off preconceptions and go into the game as a new game. I have multiple Supermarket/ Market simulators... none of them are anything like the other outside of the initial concept. I realize for people who love The Sims you have had one game for a decade, or 2.5 decades if you are a lifer...lol. But if we are actually interested in expanding the genre then you have to accept that games each have strengths and weaknesses, The Sims weakness is getting out a pack without a community melt down due to broken or altered content. If this game comes out and works they are already a leg up in my opinion.
    I have not been able to play The Sims since December and am wondering if I will ever be able to play again at this point (due to making the mistake of buying For Rent), so I'm excited for everything coming out because I am sure that at least one will work for me. Honestly I can't wait... Inzoi (most concerned with gameplay), Life By You (not crazy about the graphics), Paralives (again not crazy about the graphics but I'll get over it). If they are not priced too high I will most likely buy all three for variety. Also looking at Vivaland with curiosity, I have the dreamhouse demo (just building a house) and am encouraged at least by that part.

    I am so looking forward to this game. I really hope they live up to the hype because I am really over The Sims. One thing I really can't stand in the community is the phrase "it just might be too difficult for them," or "they probably don't have the resources," when it comes to making good things for TS4. I find it annoying because they've done it easily before. It's like someone making Mac and cheese for years then suddenly they aren't able to make it right and people around them give it a pass. EAxis have done so much in the previous iterations yet they dropped the ball in TS4. I'm just over it and ready for these new games to blow me away.

    • @AutobotSimmer
      @AutobotSimmer 3 месяца назад +5

      Sorry to add to your list of hated phrases, but I think it's because of the engine. They decided to recycle it from the plan for 4 to be 100% online. Definitely can see how limited they are with this one decision. So with that, I don't agree with people saying 4 is the future because it's EA. Hmm 1-3, published by EA. So one screw up after 14 years and that's it time for the franchise to die? Really? I know you didn't say this but that's what people are saying.

    • @SweetLala25
      @SweetLala25 3 месяца назад +11

      @@AutobotSimmer Yea not saying the whole franchise needs to die because despite the bugs, 1-3 were awesome then and still are now. I just want 4 to be done with instead of the bandaids on giant wounds then more broken packs that hurt even more. A lot of players only know sims 4 whereas the seasoned players know the other iterations during their times and remember the greatness that it was and SHOULD have been expanded on.

    • @AutobotSimmer
      @AutobotSimmer 3 месяца назад +3

      @@SweetLala25 true, I think 8 years is enough even if we're talking ts3 with all that's added. Even the recycled engine seemed to hold up until the 8 year mark. Now past year 9 and oof. I played 2&3. I thought the beginning of 4 was trying to do better balancing gameplay and performance but failing, focused more on performance. Even after playing 2&3 for a while in 2019, I can't say 4 is 💩, but it's definitely not the balance I thought they were going with. There's a lot of good ideas with 4 but half done. Another challenge is all the players with different ideas how one part of the game should be or the entire game. More balanced, or an upgraded ts3 for example. So some like the districts but they should be open and stop shrinking but others say no.

      About inzoi: I think it depends on what is behind that hype. some may have good expectations, some may excpect perfection. I expect it will have something to offer, and also not be a panacea or perfect game
      about sims 4: I don't really agree with either, I suppose. I don't think the issue is about being too difficult. I think the issue is the base engine, the disregard and mismanagement for QA and the very foundation- explained in one of my videos previously. I find that on socials, it tends to be a lot of all or nothing about sims 4- either nothing can be done, or they can do everything etc.

  • @MagnusItland
    @MagnusItland 3 месяца назад +19

    This looks more like a rival to upcoming Life By You rather than the decade-old Sims 4. Specifically, Sims 4 has no "city builder" features at all (arguably less so than Sims 2). LBY lets you build residential and commercial properties wherever you want, and has an in-game economy. (You can buy seashells, or gather them yourself, or gather them and sell them in your own store, for instance.) Sims 4 is a low hurdle to clear in several ways. But Sims 4 run on most laptops and consoles (at least it runs most of the time) and it has accumulated a truckload of content if you are willing to pay for it. So different niches, while LBY is the head to head competitor. And LBY has narrowed down its business model (it is offline by default so no subscription or microtransactions.) InZOI is online by default and eerily silent about their revenue model.

      Things like clothes getting wet in the rain, running when they're late, expressive animations (I can see how the conversation is going and how they feel about it), relationship consequences, allowances for kids (with potential repercussions). I can see their train of thought. Each feature leads into the next in a realistic cohesive way, like they are actually thinking of how to create something complete (idk how to word it). The game is of course not out, so who knows if it pans out that way, but the way they're thinking reminds me of old game dev interviews. World customizations and the detail of the world they made gives me good vibes as well.

What I think the titles should do is to make the 'dilemmas' playable and not just a question, like if there was a incident in the kitchen in the culinary career, you'd be able to play that moment and resolve it using interactions and skills - essentially, the career would only be active at times when you need to make a decision, and at other times you can just let it run like a normal rabbithole

    Technology nowdays is useless and slow after 3 years of use, and game graphics and stuff arount it, is developing each year. So Im hoping they will make the best game they can, and optimalize ti so even people with slower machines can play, and ppl with stronger PC can enjoy how good it is.

    I don't know any Korean, but from the interviews the producer seems pretty down to earth and pretty open about them using AI and stuff. Not too sure how or where he got the figure that the Sims take 97.5% of the simulation market share, but I'm not surprised it may be true.

    Well, if people are looking for "realism" to include having their character/avatar be burglarized or have other crimes perpetrated on them, this sounds like it's the game for them. I personally don't want that kind of "realism". I want my avatar to have the best life I can give them. (And I'm grateful that my Sims are not burglarized. I did everything I could to get rid of the burglars in TS3, because I hated them so much.)
    In terms of active careers, I like doing them *sometimes.* But I'd just as soon not have to micromanage them all the time. I'd rather spend my play time on their off-work hours. Even when I can go to work (or school) with my Sims, I don't do it every day. And since I like to play families, I'd hate to be stuck playing only one avatar (since it seems to me that it wouldn't be possible to go to work with each avatar). (I find it frustrating in Minecraft that I can only follow one miner. No family play there!)
    I doubt either my desktop or my laptop could run this. But that's ok because the more I see of it, the less interested I am. I hope that they succeed because I do know that others would love a game like this. It's just not my thing.

    I honestly don't mind the mundane aspect of playing through a workday if it's significant to the story line of the character, especially if you can adjust the safety level of the environment. For instance, maybe there's a robbery at the convenience store you're working at and your character has to make a choice to interfere or avoid conflict. Or maybe they meet a love interest on their shift. Also, it would be preferable if your career can progress while you do your tasks, and your actions (or inaction) can have a bearing on your performance. If they can implement AI in a way that allows characters to feel unique and the world to feel alive, then they will have already surpassed The Sims 4.

    I agree with some of the other commenters that it is quite bold to just outright say they're a competitor for Sims.... While I do think this will be true, we can't really say that for sure yet, so the claim may be a bit premature. I think they have a good chance at being a strong competitor... every game coming out as a sims like simulation is direct competition to the sims anyway. InZoi is the only one who is piggybacking of of the sims name. Its actually a tactic that has proved successful in the past. I know like some well known high end brand did that when they started. A Little nobody brand used their marketing to directly compare to the top dog company, and people believed it. And then instantly they were top dog too and an actual competitor.
    Will inzoi live up to expectations and be good enough to compare and be the sims direct competition is a whole other topic, and could backfire if the game ends up failing. It’ll be our job as people with higher end computers to deal with glitches and tell you if it’s good or not LOL.

Though i can admire the ambition that the devs have. I still have a lot of reservations. Namely that this is almost guaranteed to be online only. On top of that, I'm not sure how accurate the translation is. When they say the game will be against both "Sims and SimCity," do they mean that it will COMBINE city building and living genres and intend to fully integrate all staples of each genre? Or will it be an INTERMEDIARY that will have SOME features from SimCity and SOME from Sims? That's a confusing thing that I'm not so sure about. I honestly don't see them including stuff like commercial/office/industrial districts affecting the happiness of every ZOI. They would have to take the overarching concepts from a city building genre and then proceed to incorporate them into the detailed complex stories that are told in a life simulator genre.

    While it is a « bold » claim to affirm themselves as competitors to the Sims franchise, it’s great, it shows their ambition. I won’t be able to play InZoi (but I won’t be able to play LBY either so there’s that), BUT I’m eagerly waiting for the reviews and let’s play on it! It definitely seems different from the other upcoming sim games and I do like that about it. Now I wonder if us being too used to the functioning of the sims will stop us from adapting to that new game or not.

  • @TheDawnofVanlife
    @TheDawnofVanlife 3 месяца назад +3

    I like that these different games are going for different things, maybe uplifting things that were lackluster Sims features.
    That being said, I am still VERY much on the fence about inZoi. Like it seems like maps and workplaces will still be created by them, not the player. And while I don’t necessarily use every world creation tool there is, world creation tools mean if the time comes that I want to change things in workplaces and community lots….its possible. I could care less about decorating a house…bed, kitchen, bathroom same ol same ol. But making a cool movie theater from scratch, that’s a bit fun. The things they have mentioned changing in InZoi so far (level of rain, signs on billboards, etc) don’t matter to me as much as knowing if I don’t like your supermarket, I can demolish it and build my own. But even the ‘cartoony’ alteration they showed off is just a really bad filter over realistic graphics. And it also I do not like the word ‘cartoony’ as just seems like an insult to animation. Animation is more than a filter thrown over “realisim”. And InZoi has a style, realisim, looks better with the realistic graphics. Stay in your lane InZoi.
    That being said, I know there are other players for whom that matters slightly less and this game will be a blessing to them. Heck, sims 4 doesn’t even have proper super markets.
    I also like rabbit hole jobs for family management. Especially if I want to focus on a teen or child and ignore the parents to self navigation to the most part. I am still unclear if character switching is even possible in InZoi as you seem to make a single ‘protagonist’ and control them. So I am still not sure if this game is *for me* but am excited for it to come up and watch folks get into gameplay.
    Btw, optimization isn’t just about catering to potato computers it has to do with how the game literally loads the simulation itself. If every character has constantly running ‘real time lives’ that is a lot of processing power as there are constantly things processing in the backgroud the player can’t even see. Not accounting for this properly and the game not accounting for reductions that could be reduced when not ‘in focus’ was one of the optimization problems with the simulation in CS2.

      @SimmerErin  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, there is something a little off for me when they said everyone was on a schedule- and also the aspect of having to go to work. I am not sure, on many elements, what all this means. In the earliest review, I heard that we would not be able to build community lots? But I am not sure if that will remain true
      I think all graphics have their place. I notice the tendency for many to pit different graphics over others, but it kinda is just subjective
      I agree rabbit holes honestly I think are very useful? I like having the option for both
      Thanks so much for your thoughtful perspective

    • @joyfulgirl91
      @joyfulgirl91 3 месяца назад +1

      I believe LBY also says every character will have their own schedule. To me that is what would make a game a true simulation and I’m really looking forward to seeing it at work. For now inzoi looks intriguing, but not like something I could play for thousands of hours while LBY looks much more varied in how many times you could run the systems and come out with unique stories.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 3 месяца назад +1

      @@joyfulgirl91 Honestly it’s really hard call how much one can get out of InZoi vs LBY. At the end of the day it always comes down to play, is the ‘play’ in the simulation fun? You can have a perfect working simulation that is entirely boring as a game even if not a thing is wrong with it as a simulation. And I am as on the fence about inZoi as I am about LBY as there drama video they posted with the family had very little actual drama.
      The thing about a simulation is a *true* simulation doesn’t require a ‘player’ or to be a game at all to be fair as it will just do its thing player or no player and the world will just go on functioning. The trick is always where do you add the ‘game’/the challenge in the simulation so that it feels like there is a point in playing it as a simulation ‘game’ and not just watching it as a simulation of its own accord. And I think all these new games are choosing different parts of the simulation to make specifically a ‘game’ and it’ll be interesting to see, if and when they all are available to play, which player types are attracted where and who plays all of them for different reasons. If they all ‘land’ it will be an exciting/interesting time in the lifesim space.

It also opens up a lot of possibilities for management of the entire town as opposed to one household at a time. But you are right that it can become an aquarium, and that’s not what I hope to see

    I'm never convinced by publishers who want a high end machine for a Sims style game - one of the quirks of the genre is that the players tend to come from the much more casual end. For a number of folks IIRC, Sims was pretty much the only game they played that wasn't on their phone, which is maybe another reason why the title is so glitchy, they are trying to keep it accessible on an absurdly wide range of technology. If you go high end, I wonder how much of the audience you put yourself out of the range of.
    Another feature I don't like is the idea of playing as a 'god' for the city. It's a personal thing in that I want to play as a sim, or maybe a group of sims in an area, and I want the world around them to behave reacting to my sims, not with my direction. This is why I've never been fussed by the Sims 'lore' - The families never seem to behave in a way that makes them feel like they are distinct. I appreciate it'll be different to rotational players, but this feels like a feature that takes the title away from what I want in a life sim.

If I'm honest, I'm most interested in Paralives - This one feels too sandboxy rather than being a game and LbY feels like it's trying to be all things to all people. Heck, if I was the publisher, I'd maybe be trying to do a spinoff of LbY which reused a lot of the visual assets to make a modern version of The Movies as no-one has tried to make a game like that since it was released. They could then see if they learned a few new things from that title they could use to make sure LbY was all they want it to be

      Letting go of limited ideas about who might play a life sim and what they would want to do is why companies are working on giving us options now. For all this time they’ve brushed off a huge market as not being serious enough, or not appreciating real gameplay. Not all sims players are casual gamers. I play all types of games on all types of platforms, and I don’t think this game or company looks perfect, but I’m intrigued by what can be done with a life sim for gaming pcs.
