- The leader of the Snake Flower Triad himself, Lau Ka Long. After an extended battle against the underlings of Lau, Kiryu finally found himself in his office with the kidnapped Haruka there as well. Now it's up to Kiryu to defeat Lau Ka Long and rescue Haruka from their clutches.

What's interesting, is he's speaking perfect Japanese (I assume, considering the subtitles are grammically correct) up until he says "Japanese Yakuza not very smart" almost like irony
I feel like the Translators were being assholes on the Chinese. Since Chinese when they learn English, they skip some words. I am not sure if they do that for Japanese though.

Kiryu is known for not being afraid of anyone yet when he heard lau ka longs name, he showed genuine fear, that proves how lau is scary, and here he clearly didn't wanted to fight, in his voice we can clearly hear some fear and he clearly avoided the tough guy/provocative talk here, just take haruka back and get out of here
Even on hard mode it was difficult but at least I could retry it from there and not have to do all this again, the car chase I mean.

The music of this boss fight is beautiful. Always loved the harmony of Chinese music. Sega nailed it
I think the electricity could mean that kiryu hit the solar plexus, thus stunning lau ka long. Hitting the human pressure points are like ripping the wires of machine, making the human incapable.

It’s honestly a missed opportunity that Lau Ka Long didn’t have a QTE. I spent the whole fight looking forward to one.
His fighting style is way too unique for Yuya to have one but not him.
Interestingly enough, while he has no QTE, he does have a heat action he can do to you if he grabs you.
devilleon7 Thanks, I actually didn’t know that! while it is really cool Yuya and other bosses like Majima have heat actions too. They both also have QTEs, Lau Ka Long deserves one as well.
The atmosphere of when the fight starts is fantastic and arguably the best in the franchise but the QTE are very enjoyable moments in the franchise which is kinda sad that Lau Ka Long never got them other than him getting thrown some weapons from his employees. Still loved this boss battle though.
@@CradleOfJohn he has 2 different heat actions though. One for his spear phase (mainly if he stuns you) and one if you try to escape his grabs in the last phase.

@@goldenjebboni1331 You're half right. In Yakuza 0 it's called the Counter Hook but in Kiwami it's been renamed The Lightning Fist. Does the same thing as the Tiger Drop but without the invincibility frames, with much less damage, and with an added stun effect for most enemies and some bosses. Lau Ka Short here being an example.

Always happy to see some Chinese kung-fu action in the Yakuza series. Seeing the late Lau Ka Long use his Guan Dao against Kiryu almost makes me want to practice using one, too. Video game power fantasy at work.
Like it's funny with this boss fight on how this isn't the hardest part in the chapter...

Just before hitting Yokohama completed the Komaki training and got the epic Tiger Drop (the original, not the electric one), when Lau started to swirl the swords I happened to land 4 TD's in succession (timing exactly every hit and get the invincibility frame right on spot), and his lifebar dropped faster than the panties of a 5 dollar whore. By the fifth hit I couldn't hit him again, but the satisfaction of landing 4 TD's on this asshole was so satisfying.
But everything went to shit after the fucking car chase...

The Guandao is one of my all time favourite weapons. It's awesome to see it here!! The style is great!

I used katanas when he used his glaive haha it felt so epic, especially when I did the heat move for it.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE COUNTER ATTACK HEAT ACTIONS BEFORE. THIS IS UNLOCKED BY THE CHARACTER WHEEL RIGHT? or is it learned from somewhere else?
Depends on the style, Dragon Gets 2, ones learned by Majima the other Komeki
Brawler has two: One is electric punch and other is knock back punch through blocking. Both are unlocked in the wheel
Rush: unlocked in the wheel, allows you to circle around your enemy
Beast has four: charging bear hug from block, clothesline and double axe handle from block and a grab from evading
Dragon has two: Tiger Drop and Parry. You learn both from Komaki
This guy is one step from sounding just like Shigechi.
Hiyashi almost sounds like Okayasu too.
What kind of weapon is the first one that Lau Ka Long uses? I've been trying to figure it out for a while but I can't seem to find any answers online.

I just fought this guy for the first time on hard mode a few days ago, and i must say, it gets easier once you pass the giant spear thing phase.
I disagree. His spear spear is the that bad. His third phase where he just uses hands is way harder. He spins around and dodges too much and he’s now basically a god at countering you (or maybe I’m too aggressive)
Him and Shindo were the hardest bosses in the game for me
Shindo was hard for me on my first play through

How come when those "action sequences" pop up, it's just Lau Ka Long beating kiryu's ass? Btw I'm surprised they didn't trigger since it happened when you played the Japanese version
The RetroSilverGamer they do happen with every boss if you give them an opportunity
The action sequences you meant is probablu Lau heat action.In Yakuza enemies can use heat action on you, and you can't counter them like you can in QTE.

@@auzabraar Yeah, it is new to Kiwami, they replace the boss's throws pretty much (most annoyingly Yuya, the first boss, will do it even if Kiryu escapes his grab).
Notable exception being Majima, who can perform them under most the same circumstances as in 0- like when Kiryu is downed or if he gets behind Kiryu.

@@b.blobbentein5774 All the way from the first game actually, particularly his unarmed style has always been the exact same.
He’s got a lot of Lau-Chan’s moves from Virtua fighter, there’s a lot of VF moves, some of the goons also use Lau’s moves too. You play one of the VF’s or just check our character combos you’ll recognize the stuff, some of the movesets are just straight up VF combos and moves converted to this style.
I used my salt on him, surprisingly a very effective fighting technique

I thought that when I 1st played Kiwami (my 1st game in the franchise), especially after the 1st time I used Extreme Essence of Rush for some reason, but some quick research made me realise they aren't the same

@beatingstuff88 that's the part where your wrong all you have too do is hold space too target a enemy then when that enemy is about too attack press right click and you do counter

Why did he want haruka anyway?
Don’t know if you know this by now, but Jingu wanted to kill Haruka to erase his past, if Lau had his hands on her, he could have extorted Jingu for more money than the pendant was worth, meaning that if Jingu wanted her, he would have to pay Lau a lot more money than what the pendant was worth, in order to make the trade and kill Haruka as he had planned before. At least that’s my take
Anyone else think Lau sounds really strange? And that's not a tiger drop, it's supposed to be brawler's right hook. It's supposed to hit the body in such a way it literally shocks the system. Regardless, I'll fight two of this guy before I do another car chase
