- Creating a colour scheme for miniature painting is incredibly rewarding and tons of fun. In this video, we show you how Dunc approaches creating a colour scheme and we use a new Leagues of Votann miniature from Games Workshop for Warhammer 40,000 to create a brand new scheme.
Although not a full painting miniatures tutorial, this goes into real depth on Duncan's process as well as really useful tips, gathered from years of experience, on creating your own colour scheme. Duncan talks about finding inspiration, a little bit about colour theory and how to use it to create your scheme. Then it moves on to creating a plan as well as thinking about some final touches.

Picking color schemes has always been the hardest part for me
Very educational. Jon Bius sent me over. You have a steady hand (which at 67, I no longer have) and a very vivid imagination. I learned a lot watching the video, and will definitely be watching more! Thanks for sharing. Happy days and model on! 😎🇨🇦
I can totally relate, sometimes I spend longer trying to get a color scheme than painting, (and I’m a slow painter). Lately I’ve just been sitting down and slapping what I think will look good on, it definitely helps a lot.
I think the hardest part for me the complimentary extra bits. The main one or two colors come easy but getting a good color for the leather, trims, etc can really trip me up. What I have enjoyed lately though is to take a look at existing schemes and find something that really stands out and then tweak to my liking. I did that for my Necrons where I loved the silver, red, gold and white but instead of green energy weapons I really wanted to try my hand at a vibrant orange.
Hard, because there's so many ideas out there and you have to commit to usually one style.
Yeah I usually do 4 or 5 passes over a mini with different ideas before I figure it out.
Thanks for watching and we really hope you guys enjoyed this one. It sure was fun to make and be inspired to create a colour scheme. Feel free to leave a comment below and let us know what inspires you or what schemes you've created that you are proud of. Excellent video! I will say, I do miss the little inserts that would pop up on the left showing the brands of paint that were being used.
Any chance you could say where the shield bits were from, the ones with sun/moon motif? Thanks for great vids!
What happened to the color and tools markers that you used to post at the top left?
This is also one of my favorite parts of the Hobby; I sorely miss the 3rd edition Codices where it looks like everyone in the studio got a model and made their own scheme (The Tau book was especially good for this). Honestly, some of my paint schemes come directly from there!
Another place I look is across Universes: My Votann paint scheme is HEAVILY inspired by the Kharadron Barak Nar colors. Even down to noting that one of the stripe colors on the skyships is black, giving me leeway to use it as an accent on vehicles, or a squad marking as needed. Other times it just comes down to a color I like. Why are my actual Kharadron mainly Lupercal Green? Because I like Lupercal green and I didn't have an army that used it yet.
Great video! I've been trying to find out from your other videos but either I missed it or you didn't mention it - what do you use for your pallette? I find my paints dry out really quickly on my pallette, which is a problem when I'm mixing them.
I would love to see your interpretation of the vehicle scheme for this faction! Man, Leagues of Votann are sick.
Watch this space
How great is it that Duncan now runs his own channel and his own paints company without any non-compete clauses coming to haunt him ^_^
I feel really silly because I've painted so many test models and never thought to just put paints on the palette next to each other. I usually use the test model to refine everything, but I often paint a color - like orange - and then paint over it if I don't like the tone. Simple tip that I think will make a big difference for me :)
I always come back to my ppxwalker hord when i try out a new colour scheme. It is sometimes hard when you just have an killteam and not a lot of "spare models" for testing
Always loved the Rebel flightsuits and these just look great in that motif.
Well said! Thanks for making the connection!
Seeing the void knights always makes me smile.
One of the things I remember being taught was varying the vibrancy of your color choices. Green and Red are great complimentary colors but with the same intensity, can look very Christmasy. But if you mute one and make the other brighter, you lose that effect. I liked the blue as your spot color but thought it being so bright made it compete with the orange. So looking at a more muted or grey blue would have been my move.
Im having this exact issue right now with my first ever warhammer box. dark angels combat patrol. I love the caliban green but can only see christmas on the box art. Not a huge fan of the paint scheme on the box.
Any suggestion for the weapon color?
This is what Darren mention once, and having a paint journal can keep track any colour that you used
I was gifted a Combat Patrol: Drukhari for my birthday a few months back. I knew I didn't want to paint a "darkly colored" Dark Eldar army, but I also had a hard time nailing down a solid starting point. After some experimentation with alliteration, I settled on my color scheme: Black, Blue, Bone, Brass, and a bit of Blood". Felt good to put such a bright/cold color scheme on such a dark army.
I remember my first custom scheme was a group of Vampire Counts Skeletons and a Vampire. I loved the idea of using a royal purple to contrast with the light white bones and show off a very well-to-do Vampire Lord. Was so much fun and I think I spent just as much time thinking up a background for the army as I did painting it.
This channel makes my favorite painting videos, thanks for all the great stuff!
Wow, thank you!
I agree with your planning technique prior to actually painting. I didn't want my Emperor's Children to be plain black and pink so I planned to integrate concepts relevant to Slaanesh and our own world, such as greed, need and chase to have more and more, as well as a lot of opulence. It also allows me for way more freedom with ideas. I had a wild idea of converting Henry the 8th from the Glutos Orscollion kit to represent greed, gluttony etc, one day I might get round to it Lol. First up I have to create the Land Raver!
Also that astronaut theme is sick!!
What colors did you ultimately decide on? I'll be honest, that's the hardest part for me too, I overthink things like this.
On a test model, I did an Emperor's Children Marine with Turquoise as the main, with redish-violets and pinks as secondaries.
@@acemechapilot I decided to follow Juan Hidalgo's method of purple in his "I painted a meme" video. It's really luscious and rich but takes time to do properly!
@@SignoftheMagi I think I did two purples with several gold colors and then dirty leather because it was a master of execution
Awesome paint job, it looks like the lego Mars mission sets from the early 2000s which was a very similar paint scheme I was looking into to contrast with my necrons colored in like the aliens from the same lego theme.
You got pictures of them?
@@akumaking1 nah I haven’t started them yet, still working on my deathguard, if you wanna see the scheme though just search lego mars mission.
With around 4 years into the hobby, I'm still a very inexperienced painter. So last year when I joined a competition to build and paint a new army over a certain time and have a tournament with them at the end I needed to come up with my first own colour scheme.
I decided to build Necrons and, as you said, sometimes it's really just a colour you want to use and for me it was "Thousand Sons Blue" because I really like the colour and started to work around that.
I went for an overall icy theme inspired by "The frozen Plague" scheme of Death Guard I saw a while ago.
I use Leadbelcher as undercoat with heavy washing of Drakenhof Nightshade to darken it down and give it a blueish colours.
Thousand Sons Blue for all the glowing effects and parts of Tesla and Gauss weapons, eyes, melee weapons or even the wings of the Necron croissants. Then an overall heavy drybrush with White Scar to make the metal look frosted and the blue parts iced.
It's quite simple scheme with only a few colours but it's a good start that doesn't scare a beginner like me and the people at the tournament liked it too which was a great feeling. :)
When I found my first functional colour scheme I really fell in love with the hobby. Made a successor blood angels chapter called Penitent Knights of Baal. I used dark reaper (citadel) for unpainted power armour, Mephiston red shoulder pads and retributor armour for detailing. It works really nicely with codex adherent schemes too - yellow helmets on close combat and blue for dev squads; I was really happy with how they definitely look like blood angels but a little less flashy.
I don’t field any sanguinary guard or gold armoured characters as fluff wise they renounce the artistry of the blood angels to focus themselves on purging their gene seed of the red thirst.
I think my favorite original schem I've ever done is for my AOS free city, Starheld using brass mossy greens and bright fuchsia really pops while giving the scheme a worn jungly vibe. I've used it on my stormcast and aelves so far and I'm looking forward to expanding it to some freeguilders
That sounds awesome. I love the idea of it.
Great video. Really love your brush control. Painting the red stripes free hand is very impressive.
Im really enjoying the editing style you guys are exploring. There are some really cool cinematic shots that no one else in the mini-painting space is doing. I guess it helps to have a dedicated camera man!
Somebody on Reddit described the Votann aesthetic as "Slightly Nordic NASA-punk". You basically took that quote and ran with it. It looks really good. The orange and white make him really pop out.
... beautiful-work, Duncan. Really love this army and color-scheme...
This is a great video Duncan, possibly one of your best. I loved your Greek inspired Sigmar army when I first saw it and it's great to hear more about your process
Picking a colour scheme has to be the most fun and exciting part of the painting process.
Your dwarf looks great by the way! Really really good looking, the off white looks fantastic.
I love how you guys get into all parts of the hobby. In this video especially, how one army or colour scheme can evolve over time due to different influences. It encourages to do the same and just go nuts on inspiration.
Keep up the awesome work!:)
Quality tutorial Duncan. love your process
You do a brilliant job explaining why you do different things. Great to hear why you use the medium for the wash for instance instead of just using it.
This video right here has made a 46 year old man buy a load of space dwarfs and pick up a miniature paintbrush for the first time in at least 30 years. Found myself this afternoon relaxing, making minis and testing colour schemes for my Votann. Just want to say thankyou for reigniting a passion for a hobby I had when I was a teenager that I thought I'd lost forever.
Wow, thanks so much for this, it's made our day ☺
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA just the truth to be honest, your vids have been invaluable to catch up on new materials and techniques and are a joy to watch. Thank you.
Really appreciate the alternate camera angles and editing on this video, more fun to watch.
This is my favourite part of the Hobby, it always has been. I remember playing Dawn of War 1 (as a kid) and being blown away with choosing my own colour schemes. The hardest part for me is always the “Naming your Sub-faction”.
I literally had an idea yesterday that led me to make my own chapter and I was choosing a colour scheme! Thanks for the advice in this video.
Really nice colour scheme. And many thanks for the words of wisdom about planing and then applying a colour scheme.
Glad it was helpful and it's our pleasure
I've been watching your tutorials for years now, and I don't intend to mean this as a dig, but one of the reasons why I value your advice above anyone else's is because in your showcases, I know if I really look, I can find minor imperfections. As someone who will never be "golden demon" worthy, to know a master like you does this, removes the anxiety I have when I get to the "stop painting and move on to the next mini" stage. Cheers Duncan
When I got into the hobby I picked up the Battle for Macragge starter set, and made my main army Ultramarines. I loved their paint scheme, and when I returned to the hobby at the beginning of 8E, I picked them back up. But I wanted the scheme to be different. I didn't know how to go about that so it was a slow growing process with individual changes: bone-white shoulder pads for sergeants or characters, burgundy for tabards or cloths, bronze melee weapons, different colored helmets for different battlefield roles, etc. But the army really came together when I was inspired by a Babylonian stele covered in cuneiform. All those bone pauldrons became papyrus covered in cuneiform. It changed the entire theme from off-brand Ultramarines into an ancient Babylonian/Mediterranean custom chapter. The recent release of the Black Templars caused me to add a secondary paint scheme of more purples and reds to denote internal chapter struggles between pragmatic or zealous forms of warfare. I'm sure something else will come along that will add another layer to the army. Its good to remember that making a cohesive paint scheme when you first pick up the brush isn't necessary. Feeling inspiration from the outside world, or in the middle of a painting session is normal, and I would highly recommend it.
The video I’ve been waiting for! Bought a couple of different sci fi minis because I wanted to paint them myself without going of a pre made color scheme. BUT I soon realized that creating a color scheme is quite difficult and a slow process for me, I mean, I did almost fail art in school and I suck at visualizing colors on grey plastic. Something that helps me a lot is using online color wheels. I don’t necessarily stick to exactly the nuances it suggests but more use it to see how colors look together and to get a broader idea of which color look nice together.
Very helpful, Duncan and team!
It's our pleasure and we are glad it helps.
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA btw, the name of your new faction should be "The United Cosmonautical Syndicate" UCS for short :)
I've seen some people that digitally paint over a picture of the minis to try out color schemes before committing to paint.
@@EdAllen that’s a great idea! I’ll give that a go as well! Better to try it digitally than try and strip it without hurting the plastic when it ends up looking like a clown, which is a bit difficult when all I got I acetone…
Really enjoyed this, definitely one of the best you've done for me. Getting a peek inside the method and thought process. Thank you.
Thank you for this. I have genuinely just done this for my necron idomitus minis. Painting a test model then going for it 🖌
I just love this guy! The scheme is great and you made the whole process sound so exciting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was awesome video that really helped me through finding my color schemes for my beloved Votann. You have definitely won a subscriber, keep up this amazing work
Great stuff Duncan. Great to see the process you use to come up with your home brew colour schemes.
Thank you! Cheers! Glad you liked it ☺
I love how your first mini was in the lineup of your models!
Pride and place! A Veteran for sure!
I love this! One of the cases that I did this myself was when the White Scar supplement came out. I enjoyed diving into the lore of my favorite founding chapter, and one section in it stood out to me, when they talked about some of the various Primaris founding chapters. The name Astral Bears kept coming up, but no art, iconography or color schemes existed so in that I found my inspiration. I had custom decals for the chapter logo made, and invented a white and ice blue color scheme inspired by my other favorite spirit bears in gaming, the Clan Ghost Bear Mechwarriors. Ironically I have only painted a couple of them, but they really stand out in my display case. Friends always ask me about them since they look like nothing seen in books.
Those freehand lines are insanely good. Well done!
Thanks for showing the colour selection process!
For my thunderstrike stormcasts, I took inspiration from a picture of a dark storm cloud, leading by trial and error to a colour scheme of shades of grey and blue, with spots of white and gold.
This is almost identical to my T’au scheme. Picked up some great tips, thanks!!
As someone who recently finished painting House Lucaris Chaos Knights after following your Desecreator guide initially, this couldn't have come at a better time as I'm now wanting to paint a loyalist house but in my own scheme, thanks! It makes a lot of sense.
Very inspirational. You picked my college's colors - I'm kinda inspired to get this army.
I am enjoying the b-roll being mixed in for this video, it is a nice addition.
I managed to pick a good color scheme for me and it’s a good gag/lore bit.
My Kin are the descendants of a Dark Age Tech pharmaceutical company so I picked the colors of the Umbrella Company.
Black void suit, mostly red armor with white panels.
Such a great video quality and editing, amazing content
I really like the new format/filming style!
i've been watching a few of your videos recently just to sort of scratch the itch i have to engage with the hobby after being a fan of the IP and various video games for years at this point, but this is the first video that really made me want to seriously consider actually getting into the game for the first time. the flavor and resonance of giving them an "Industrial Moon-Miner Astronaut" appearance fits SO perfectly while still being unique and divergent from the "intended" color scheme -- i'm sure you'll have many imitators of this amazing colorway.
I personally just finished painting a small Necron army (abt 600 pts) using mostly metallics, with the primary color being Retributor Armor Gold, a secondary of Runefang Steel, and then the spot color being a bright purple and lilac glowing effects on the energy blades, tubes, and eyes. Turned out really sweet looking imo.
That sounds awesome!
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA thanks! They were actually some of the first minis I'd ever painted, alongside a Tau Pathfinder Kill Team I painted Maccrage Blue with dark blue as a secondary, and bright yellow as the spot color for stripes and such. Called them the Ike'A Sept XD
Thank you! This video broke my painters block as I was stuck on deciding my army color!
Awesome! Glad we could help a little.
Great video, really will help me with future colour schemes!
As somebody who fairly recently started with warhammer, i painted my first custom color scheme being my metallic purple hot rod guardsmen and it has been my fav group that i have painted so far
I really love that white space marine colour scheme
Just watched this channel for the 1st time. U my friend, have a new subscriber. Great content and much appreciated.
I love the newer format that your producing your videos in.
This is the color scheme I was thinking about. I'm glad I have seen it before trying it. though I would go for a paler orange
I recently painted a Primaris Dreadnaught with the aid of one of your previous how - to videos. (I actually uploaded to YT!) thanks for your clarity and amazing neatness. 👍
Well looks like I got a colour scheme for my Nomads from Infinity! Awesome work!
Not so much as coming up with your original but something I get great satisfaction from is when I’m painting something like Fallout and color matching it pretty spot on with the source material. Something really gratifying with just using your skills and color theory to nail Nick Valentine’s trench coat!
I loved the vidéo. It's a bit different from what you guys usually do but i think it was really well done. Hope to see more in this style
A number of years ago I created my own Eldar Craftworld, the Cravic Craftworld, with totally unique base colour.
I started out in 2nd edition, and in those days where was frequent use of red to yellow blending (such as Lascannon barrels, or cables on Chaos Black Legion)... and I adopted that into the theme of my army.
Games Workshop have never produced their own paint, they subcontract that to a paint supplier and provide them under the Citadel brand.
In the 90's when I first started, Citadel's paint came from the Coat de Arms company.
I wanted something completely different for my Eldar, so rather than picking a specific colour from the Citadel list, I mixed 'Jade Green' and 'Hawk Turquiose' together to give a more greeny turquoise shade.
The helmets are black with dots for stars all over, the facemasks blend from red to yellow, with Enchanted blue eye's, and the guns are black with fluorescent orange barrels, which really makes them pop.
The Eldar have lots of gems, but I decided to keep the gem colours very limited, with deep orange gems on anything that's turquoise, and blue gems on the orange guns.
In order to keep a consistant colour, highlighting and shading throughout the whole army, I bought four pots of Jade Green and Hawk Turquiose from Coat De Arms, and pured them all into a jam jar.
I then syphoned them back into their individual pots, but in one I added a little white for a general highlight, in another I added more white again for a very pale highlights.
In another I added a little black for a pot of darker turquoise for shadows, and took a little of that, and create a shade from distilled water, a couple of drops of washing-up liquid to break the surface tension, and finally a couple of drops of airbrush flow improver (which helps it flow into the recesses without pooling stains.
Here's some Storm Guardians I painted last week.
drive.google.com/file/d/1NMorcCu3agtHtFz4cF7yfXq5fnz9hv4j/view?usp=share_link
For Windrider/Skyrunner jetbikes, Vypers, War Walkers and skimmers, the tops are black with starscenes on them.
Here's a couple of examples:
Fire Prism: drive.google.com/file/d/1HN6Qu6oWltdITIhkUAx4tHno6hqdnj17/view?usp=share_link
Autarch Skyrunner: drive.google.com/file/d/1Eqr3gORcxf9onvQDdKBBDog2OVj0QOAf/view?usp=share_link
With the red to yellow theme, I followed the old Baharroth model and gave the wings of an Autarch a full rainbow of feathers.
drive.google.com/file/d/1Qnjj-zCsiJuvo7rq__b0lQc3oFtVm7TB/view?usp=share_link
I also themed him based on the current Aeldari codex.
On a third Autarch, with a jump generator, I game the backpack a starscene nebula effect.
drive.google.com/file/d/1--MTmFSZVjm9iRwEZ9b26F3pCN1ky8kI/view?usp=share_link
For Aspect Warriors, I use the usual colours, Blue for Dire Avengers, Bone for Banshees, Green for Scorpions, etc... but I add elements that tie them to the craftworld, such as sashes and red to yellow facemasks.
Overall, my Eldar of my favourite army, and as such get lavish attention when compared to other armies.
damn you Duncan! i was going to try and come up with a custom scheme but yours is GREAT! I'll make a few modifications but i'm TOTALLY stealing it!!! great work as always!
Im really stumped right now on what my color scheme will be for them. For now Iv just been waiting for it naturally to come to me. BTW liking the new format!
Just found your channel glad you branched out miss you on games workshop stuff will definitely be tuning in keep up the good work
Thanks, it's been an adventure for sure!
This was very helpful and the model looks great! I did a Astra Militarum figure in a desert uniform starting with Zandri Dust primmer, Karak Stone base color an Screaming Skull highlights. Thanks for sharing this.
I used the rebel pilot colour scheme for my Ironhead Squat Prospectors and the new orange contrast paint is a great base colour for the cloth and massively speeds up the process when applying this scheme over a larger force.
Tremendous video and great editing!
Great color scheme. My favourite one for the Votann so far is one based on the classic lego Ice Planet 2000 range.
Incredibly cool color sheme!
I gonna paint my votann in colors inspired by the spacesuits the belters wear in the expanse. Always really liked the blue/black suits with yellow helmets.
Incredible video! Thank you!
This is a perfect timing to see this video as I’m still considering on how to paint my Votann up. Feeling more towards StarCraft Terrans so I might give a test a go to see if I can nail it.
You haven’t lost a step. Thanks Duncan
Awesome work Mr. Rhodes, the orange and white really "pop" and you can notice them from far away. Smart detailling too!
Definitely returning to this when i paint some spare marines and wanna experiment! I haven't really done any customization on my two mains (admech & necrons) just because i love the red cloak on tan and white, and the necrons' silver with iridescent green. But after seeing all the stuff with votann, where ppl are applying lego space sets and tmnt color schemes, and now this, it's really got me wanting to branch out!
really really loved the editing and camera work in this one :)
Thanks a ton!
Thank you for this, would love more content on Leagues of Votann :)
You might want to check out our website 😉 www.duncanrhodes.com
For my Cadian Shock Troopers, I did red armor over white fatigues. This was initially just because I liked those colors, but eventually turned into a whole system of color coding. Medics got blue armor, combat engineers got orange armor with silver high-vis stripes and yellow helmets, officers got the infantry color scheme but reversed (red uniform, white armor) and so on
Duncan really does make some of the best painting content on youtube.
Thanks, both Rog and I try our very best
I love the astronaut look for the Votann!
So cool!!! I want to paint my own version too! 😃
Awesome! We may have a full tutorial in the near future 😃
Something I've found to be helpful when stuck trying to decide on a color scheme, is to look at professional sports teams, especially American football (pro or college) for Space Marines. They tend to spend millions in the development of their colors, and the players in full pads and helmets look the most like Space Marines, so you get an idea of how it would look.
This turned out great! The colour scheme I landed on for my votann is very similar but I went for the turquoise on the armour instead of the white
Ohh that sounds nice.
wow, this chipping is amazing
Thanks, if you've never tried it, you should give it a go. It's really easy and fun to do!
Watching this for ideas on painting my gundams lmao great job bro
When I started to put thought into my paint schemes, it was with my Admech. I wanted to throw the usual dead and dreary forge world for a twist by having my force originate from a lively forest world, and that theme built my colors from the cloaks and armored bits up to the subdued faces with softly glowing red eyes under hoods. The process made painting dozens of light and mechanized infantry so much more fun with a vibe behind it.
Thank you for that video! it was a huge inspiration when I started making my Votann army. I went with a Deep Red/Royal Blue/Silver look for the hearthkyn warriors, because I felt they were very "imperialistic" in the way they do "business" on some planets. For the higher rank, like the Kâhl and the Theyn will be gold instead of silver.
am i the only one who heard a "black and yellow, black and yellow!" coming from the background music? I really like how these videos do sound super relaxed. No attention seeking, just some expert's advice from someone who looks like he loves what he's doing.
You could use "failed" spot colours as rank markings if you still want to add that colour in
This kind of thoughtful and thematic video is brilliant. It's the sort of thing that is missing in today's video on demand reality. The process and introspection of colour schemes is great. It hits a specific point.
Also, maybe green for the visor, for the 'eyeglasses' alone.
Thanks. Green could work as it goes nicely with orange
All the colors of the dutch flag got represented in that mini 😉 layed it out perfect on the pallet haha! Love your color scheme!
plus all that orange that you guys seem so obsessed with! :D
@@ecMonify yes! we also have an orange pennant at the flag, meant for certain occasions.
100% using this as the guide for my flight suit Luke
Appreciate the video! I wanted to combine the dark blue/burnt orange/white of my favorite collegiate team (war Eagle) and my Raven Guard successor chapter. Turning out to be pretty dope. Got a lot of notes where I tried to make each squad different (varying stripes, knees and markings)
That sounds great. It's always worth keeping a notebook too tbh
Love this! I've been spending time to think hard about colour schemes recently, how colours work together and taking into account colour theory (especially the idea of cold+warm colours). Usually I'd just go with what felt right at the time.
I did get inspired by the Solari from League of Legends/Legends of Runeterra for a Sisters of Battle scheme, but I'm doing the test models and I don't think it'll translate over quite the way I was hoping unfortunately...
Thank you , DRPA .

Anytime 🐺🐺🐺
I’ve tried Googling things like ‘science fiction colour schemes’ or ‘cyberpunk colour schemes’ to get swatches of colours used in combination by designers and cinematographers. That’s given me some complicated schemes with lots of vibrant colours that still work together.
The Great Duncan League !
Really nice scheme! When I decided to do a successor chapter for the Dark Angels, I wanted to bring something from the first Legion into the scheme. Ended up with something really easy: The Pauldrons are black with a white rim, rest of the green wing is like the DA themselves. On vehicles I look for wide areas, where the black can separate several parts of green, the white chapter symbol is the third colour completing the scheme there. To separate Firstborn and Primaris from each other, the Details like the Aquila are Silver on the Firstborn and golden on the Primaris. Not that much of a difference at first, but really popping out on the field and giving a unique touch to my army. Also my Raven- and Deathwing are in a different colour scheme than the primogenitor chapter, so that's a thing, too. I'm at roughly 6k points fully painted at this stage. Thank you for all those great videos of yours, aways a motivation to get back to the table to paint! (Sorry for any mistakes, greetings from Germany!)
When I decided I was going to get my Votann, I knew I wanted to do something very visually different than my other armies. I ended up going similar but darker than you with black armor (black templar), orange undersuit (gryph-hound orange) and red spot color on the weapon casings and visors (flesh tearers red). I haven't gotten past base coats yet, but I can't wait to see how they pop once I get onto washes and highlighting.
