CORRECTION: The Trans-Hyperian Alliance actually gets the AP on 6s to WOUND, not to hit. It means it'll work with judgement token, so it more useful! Thanks to FlopFish for pointing that one out!

Otherwise, I do like the fluff for the Ymyr Conglomerate and the Trans-Hyperian Alliance. As an aside, I really like that the subfactions for the LoV are all nation states or mini empires in their own right.
The Trans-Hyperian Alliance actually gets an extra AP -1 on a wound of 6 rather than a hit roll of 6 and this makes their damage better because the JT auto wound counts as a wound roll of 6

So based on this retcon the Squats of older editions who got nommed by the Tyranids were probably Kin from holds belonging to the Urani-Surtr Regulates.
Great video as always Auspex! I'm leaning towards Urani-Surtr myself, that +1T is massive and makes Hearthkyn much more resilient, as tough as an Ork but with the armour of a Space Marine. Plus I do think that JTs will be nerfed by the first errata update, and so always counting as one will be much stronger in the future. Plus it helps give the Votann a boost in their first turn which is likely to be underwhelming otherwise.
It's a hard choice for me. All look good except the melee focused faction. I like to shoot, so I'm leaning toward the Ymyr or a custom army taking the +4" to shooting. Extra range on a slow army is pretty huge. Plus I want to paint my army dark purple with gold highlights.
The Urani-Surtr seems good for putting overall pressure on the table. Extra toughness, and then free JT if you didn't manage to get one on it. Let's then hit just a little harder no matter what. The Trans-Hyperian looks like it's good for whittling down targets
I like that you touched a bit on the lore of these factions, beyond the usual solid gameplay analysis. Its hard not to be part of all the hype for this new faction now. Ur.-S.R looks interesting fluff-wise, I'd love to see more of all of these factions' colour schemes.
I'm really torn between the Ymyr Conglomerate and the Kronus Hegemony for my Leagues. I want to take as many Einhyr Hearthguard as I can cause I absolutely LOVE that unit, so do I make their Melee better with Kronus or do I make their range and defense better with Ymyr. Either way Im probably gonna paint them as my own scheme, even though I really love that black and yellow scheme that Kronus have going!
I think for Hearthguard you probably want Ymir, as they get the 4+ Invul from Ymir and can then take the Teleport crest with no downside. If going Kronus the Hearthguard won't be bad, but I'd focus more on having a ton of Berserks available.
@@patrickcoyne1960 The downside is missing out on the +1W. Which definitely is a downside, but deepstriking is a massive upside. And we can make it even cuter. Use the "Give a Relic to a Hesyr" strat to give a 10-man squad of Hearthguard the Warpestryk relic. Once per game, 0CP to relocate them anywhere. (Also grants 12" anti-deepstrike bubble and charge-through-terrain). Then plop them down 9-11" away. Volkites and Grenade Launchers are within half-range for the AP-1 Ancestral Judgment at that point. If you're really worried about anti-deepstrike bubbles, the Plasma Guns are at half range from 12" away. Site-to-Site Transport normally costs 2CP for non-Characters. Here, you spend 1CP to give the relic, so you're getting a discount. I'm planning on pairing 10 Hearthguard with the Sniper Kahl (A Long List WLT, Grudge's End relic), personally. Should be fun.
I really like the look of Hearthguard too, but hope Hearthguard have options for closed helmets. I suck at painting faces and put closed helms on everything so I don’t have to. XD
@@patrickcoyne1960 you can replace just the Hesyrs crest for teleport and the whole unit gets teleport, only the hesyr will not get the +1 wound. Ymir is a really good choice because the reality is there are are lot of Ap2 and 3 weapons being taken with AoC existing, which means Ymir is likely the "toughest" Votann build.
What I'm linking is that, despite I think that there are a couple of Leagues that are better than the others, all the Leagues seem very interesting and funny to play, I'm intrigued in trying all of them!
I'm 100% running my lads as USR. Unbreakable wall of stubborn defiance is what it means to be a Dwarf. I'm currently working on a kit bashed army of League and Imperial Guard gear, with the general theme that these are Kin who'd lost their Votann and have taken the equivalent of a Slayer's Oath to alleviate their disgrace and shame.
I'm definitely running URSR. I've been looking for a non Iron Hands vehicle focused army for a while. Almost went Orks but then Speed Waagh got it's legs cut off.
IMO Urani toughness isn’t going to help much in the mirror match but Ymyr range is going to shine. That might shape the popularity of the sub-factions.
Lore wise the T.H.A is my pick for SURE, I love the space nomad trope, though the Y.C is a strong second due to my love of Artificer Characters. Gameplay wise seeing as I love Narrative Play I will most likely go Custom with their lore being that they were born of a fusion of Trans Hyperion and Ymir Conglomerate gene lineages who were stranded together after a joint operation gone wrong and joined into a single sub league.
Yimr seems the best one to me. It helps with the short range problem and having widespread invulns is never a bad thing. Manipulating Judgment Tokens is nice for sure and +1 T is also great, but in the end being able to shoot down your enemies from afar is more conducive to the type of gameplay the LoV seems to have. Conversely, the melee league seems quite bad to me. No matter how good you are at fighting, if you can’t engage your prowess matters not and unfortunately the LoV are really slow when it comes to melee threats
I agree with you on Yimr very much, I do feel they will shake out to be on top. Not sure I fully agree with the melee league but I do very much see your points, I think some heavy transport builds with melee could possibly work well there.
Honestly, I'm unsure. It seems like only zerkers and sagitaurs need the 5+, otherwise the saves (with cover) shake out better or equal to the invuln you'd get anyhow. And the ancestral judgement seems a bit weak to me.
@@coltonlong7562 Your not always gonna have cover and they will be able to push you past 5 more often then you think too. Plus the 4 up invul is also quite good. AP is up nowadays. The judgement isn't the best but it's not bad at all, hence my last point, they could push you past 5 on a good amount of guns.
Personally I’ve found Vengeful (2Jt for killing a unit and Honour in Toil (+1 to hit if unit is below starting strength) could be a fun combo. Especially with stoic to keep small units around more often you could really make an effective MSU Votann list
With regard to Trans Hyperian. You mentioned your opponent needs to trigger you being below max strength on a unit. Theoretically, could you put 3x10 Hearthkyn units into 3x2 Sagitaur and immediately split all 6 units into 12 units below starting strength turn 1?
I think I'll do my usual approach of painting them a custom color scheme, naming them a homemade league and then switch from which rules to use according to what I fancy. For now, I think my League will be tributary to the Greater Thurian League since I'm curious about their named character. Maybe they'll become independent or be annexed by the Ymyr Conglomerate at a later point, who knows.
I know I am going to likely be playing the Ymyr - but I’m Going to still do a custom paint scheme / lore with them and jsut say they are a subordinate/ offshoot hold to the main league
I actually really like the Trans-Hyperian. Extra AP (on 6's to Wound not hit according to the leaked photos), mortal protection, redeploy all sound very handy. Plus I was thinking of maybe doing an orange color scheme anyways

Ymyr Conglomerate for me. But i am painting them with yellow armor / black clothes (mining / working CAT crew style :) The red reminds me too much of Khador from warmachine.
Thanks for the video, i still dont know wich one i want between The Ymir conglomerate and the Greater Thurian League as i love the way the Gruge mechanic works but i want a shooty army and i love the whole Master Crafter Lore of the Ymir
i very much like the Thurians, but i have a question: does combat squading count as below starting strength? because then the THA might be quite good with a pair of sagitaurs
It will likely be ruled as not working like that in tournaments, and to be below half-strength, they would still require to have at most 4 models (because they need to be strictly below 5 for 10-model units).
They already have effective 1+ armour save. To get them past a 4+ armour save, one needs to hit them with AP-4 or stronger. That is already rather inefficient, and there aren't a lot of weapons that have better AP than -4. EDIT: the better beneficiaries of the Ymir invuln are probably Beserks and the bikes.
sorry if this is a dumb question, I am a warhammer noob but can uthar the destined be utilized in a ymyr conglomerate army or can he only be used if you play the greater leagues?
Of the customs the +4" range and beam weapon combo seems intriguing if you really build toward it. That may just be me trying to justify using Thunderkyn, though. They're kind of disappointing compared to my fond memories of squat thunderers.
Planning to get back into 40k from a 13 year absense with LoV. I love the look and lore but need to read more to see. I like the USR and the YC lore wise, but I am unsure about the red on thr later. I am tempted to roll custom and lean into the iron-kin a bit more?
I'm really not sure which one to play. They are all pretty good. There are no stand out great or bad ones like in other factions. They all seem pretty balanced outside of GTL getting a named Character to dole out auto 6s
Currently its a toss up between GTL or Ymyr for me. As the only named character is league-locked and he does look pretty damn good, and then throw in that GTL have the JT bonuses and the fact that before it all came out, I was leaning towards an Incubi Darkness based colour scheme... While Ymyr look very good and "dwarfy" increased range is a big boost, and the added invuls are crazy.
Kronus Hegemony for me, I want a slayer army in 40k. Khals send out an unstoppable champion leading armies of armored kin behind a line of berserkers spilling out of transports.

I want to make a League based on the Dawn from fantasy, with grudges, beer brewing, and singing. Any thoughts on the color scheme or rules for this homebrew league?
Belegar colours. Grey steel armour, blue cloth and red details.
Ymyr Conglomerate for me. But i am painting them with yellow armor / black clothes (mining / working CAT crew style :) The red reminds me too much of Khador from warmachine.
I think Kronus Hegemony hits with +1 A and +1 Strengh always if they charge, was charged or performed a H.I.
Thanks for the video, i still dont know wich one i want between The Ymir conglomerate and the Greater Thurian League as i love the way the Gruge mechanic works but i want a shooty army and i love the whole Master Crafter Lore of the Ymir
Leagues of Votann is that something new WH40k needs
No
Yes
@@user-zh8dr1qt1s so you prefer those Primaris Marines then?
@@patrik9328 I mean, primaris marines do look better than first born so yes
What happened to the Tau affiliated League? Mentioned in fluff a month or so back
9:50 We got Soviet Space Dwarves! Who ordered Soviet Space Dwarves? We got'em here for you! :D
I want a Giant Beer Mug for my HQ option
i very much like the Thurians, but i have a question: does combat squading count as below starting strength? because then the THA might be quite good with a pair of sagitaurs
Ooh... that's a good question! I'm not sure, but I like this line of thinking
It will likely be ruled as not working like that in tournaments, and to be below half-strength, they would still require to have at most 4 models (because they need to be strictly below 5 for 10-model units).
Even if they aren't maybe the strongest, I like the lore of the THA - it's them for me probably
so Kronus is Black and Yellow, Trans-Hyperian is orangish, and Urani-Surtur is OD Green?
Gonna go Trans-Hyperion Alliance, love the lore of them being nomadic, kinda wish more of the LoV went for this aesthetic
I feel like Ymir Conglomerates with Einhyr is a thing. 4++ invulns while being fully teleporty? That seems nice...
I'm just a big sucker for learning more of the subfactions
Going Trans-Hyperian Alliance because all I do is paint and they blend well with the forge fathers from War Path.
Of the customs the +4" range and beam weapon combo seems intriguing if you really build toward it. That may just be me trying to justify using Thunderkyn, though. They're kind of disappointing compared to my fond memories of squat thunderers.
I am unable to decide between Ymyr Conglomoerate or Urani-Surtr Regulates.
Planning to get back into 40k from a 13 year absense with LoV. I love the look and lore but need to read more to see. I like the USR and the YC lore wise, but I am unsure about the red on thr later. I am tempted to roll custom and lean into the iron-kin a bit more?
"first round of melee" - as a newer 40k player i struggle to process this - does this mean only if they charge in and attack first?
it works if they "Charged, where charged, or preformed a heroic intervention" it a pretty common term you'll see in just about every codex
Remember when CSM didn't get custom rules because that's great for balance and does not require nerfing weird combos for the next 3 years :)?
They fight for their kyn,
And they'll fight, for kyn, anyone 👌
could you please do a similar video for imperial Knights?
I'm not sure if picking a StarCraft or TMNT color scheme
Kronus Hegemony for me, I want a slayer army in 40k. Khals send out an unstoppable champion leading armies of armored kin behind a line of berserkers spilling out of transports.
I've been playing Ymyr conglomerate since my childhood dudes
I like Kronus. Badass, agressive dwarfs who are more than willing to crush enemies under hammers... Dark Iron vibes.
Okay, but which one best represents a modern version of the Engineers Guild and would look best with mirrored shades and their tummy poking out?
Ymyr for me. Nothing worse than being just out of range. Army wide invuls never hurt either.
T8: "Am I a joke to you?"
I am playing custom and making a deep rock galatic army
Rock and Stone!
Ymyr all the way 5++ and rng +4 ok everything? Yes Thankyou.
Thurian or Kronus
Still cant find the synergy with Urani.
So almost extinct dwarves has custom army rules but orcs and csm don't odd
Considering they only showed us models from 2 of the Leagues? I'm not excited -at all-. They barely showed us how the other 3 should painted so I have no idea where to start
Greater Thurian League
How to be the tallest Votann in the room.
Their beam weapons are
URSR for life
I like the Ymyr conglomerate but not its colors...
why does he always sound like giving safety instructions in a plane?
Kronus looks like they're about to fall to Khorne!
