In this JCS Inspired video, we will breakdown and analyze two different interrogations. Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose Blanchard. When Nicholas met Gypsy, he finally met the woman of his dreams and he became obsessed with her but things are not always as they seem. Gypsy had been manipulated by her mother her entire life and now it was her turn to manipulate someone and persuade them to take her mother's life. After they were caught, Gypsy tries to manipulate the police because she had spent her entire life pretending to be something she was not.

Your videos are great! However, there were a few mistakes in your telling of the crime. The knife used was stolen by Gypsy at Walmart. Also. she was not into BDSM on her own, Nick liked it and she made up personalities and went along with it because he was.

Exactly. Although gypsy really did do a pretty twisted thing with hoe dhe tried to frame Nicholas as the murderer and not only that but a rapist. But yes, let's face it, none of it would've happened if deedee had allowed gypsy to simply leave like a grown up. Sad sad case.

The victim shouldn’t have been murdered but locked away for life for the brutality she caused her daughter for many years , that poor girl was physically and mentally destroyed . Very sad story even though doesn’t justify the murder .

This is one of the most tragic cases I’ve ever encountered! In addition to the sad circumstances my son is autistic and is very similar to this boy. Fortunately he has myself, my wife, his siblings and a few very dedicated professionals who can see past the abnormal behaviour and social awkwardness to the sweet, compassionate, curious and enthusiastic soul he truly is!
I cannot believe that Nicholas is still in prison and likely won't ever get out, but Gypsy is about to be free. I am seriously fuming about this.

Female privilege, I tell my wife all of the time that most are okay with it. People love to see men serve lots of time but hate when women get convicted at all. I don't think that men are over-charged or convicted but women almost literally get away with murder most of the time.
@@33greenleaf she planned to manipulate her autistic boyfriend into murdering her mother, something most normal men would do for a girl if they found out the mother was torturing her like she was. People need to realize that Nicholas is autistic, was diagnosed long before the murder and Gypsy is not. She's much more capable of rational thought and she absolutely knew that boy was the perfect target for her plan. Today Gypsy Rose enjoys a free life, with a job and a husband, planning to have kids soon. While Nicholas Godejohn is being abused both mentally and physically by other inmates and the state simply refuses to do much about it, because why? Because he pulled the trigger, after Gypsy Rose assembled a gun for him, loaded it, cocked it and aimed it? Definitely seems like Justice to me.

Gypsy does not talk to Nicholas. She hasn't contacted him for "many years" now and does not plan on it. She has completely abandoned her "hero" after completing her evil scheme. She even fully admits that she is responsible for his situation, but does not feel any guilt because he's the one who did the actual murder... yea, ok.
This is one case that I felt no sympathy for the murdered victim. She put her daughter through unbelievable torture and pain, mentally, physically, and emotionally. I also felt bad for the bf for getting entangled in the whole mess and for not having the mental capacity to understand a better way to handle it. Gypsy got a reasonable sentence. The bf did not.
Well when it came to the killing of the mother just let me say “you reap what you sow”

Crazy analogies, but I gotta give the interrogator credit for how his strategy of interrupting Gypsy before she can formulate an elaborate lie or start her crocodile tears routine. Gypsy looked so frustrated when he’d stop before she can tell her sob story cause it crashed her train of thought.

I watched a documentary and watched the movie to this. Although killing a person is not right, Gypsy's mother put her thru an ongoing hell. She turned a perfect healthy child into this "terminally ill' child most of her life. DD subjected Gypsy to unnecessary therapies, operations, medications, and mental/emotional abuse. DD robbed Gypsy of her life and in turn provided Gypsy with a neverending hell. DD also accepted major donations of money, trips, etc due to Gpsy's "terminal illnesses".
DD victimized Gypsy and so many others. She is not some innocent victim.
While DD was an absolute POS, Gypsy fully participated in her Mom’s endless schemes. She loved the free house, free cash and free Disney trips. She wasn’t victimized, she was a co-grifter. She claims she “wouldn’t be believed” if she told police, all she would’ve had to do was call them, jump out of the wheel chair and run circles around it. Pretty sure they’d believe her then. Plus her Dad and stepmom would’ve believed her, but she didn’t even make an attempt. She should’ve gotten the life sentence, she’s the one that used an autistic boy to do her bidding then throw him under the bus immediately.
...and the $4000 they "stole" from DD, was money acquired by false claims she made AND child support from Gypsy's father. That woman should be in hell for what she did to her child.
@@Justynbrodsky123 I agree. She was an adult and could have left. There is much more video than was shown here, other youtube channels have the long version. She completely threw Nick under the bus. She said he locked her in the bathroom while he killed her mother then dragged her into the bedroom and raped her. In reality she went in there to shave her legs in preparation of sex which was her "reward" for Nick killing her mother.
@@Justynbrodsky123 hmm, I don't think it can be said that gypsy wasn't victimised. She 100% was victimised. However, when she became an adult she can no longer be considered 100% victim when it comes to using her manipulative skills to recruit a poor unsuspecting and extremely vulnerable person like Nicholas in order to escape her prison.
It is possible to be both victim and co-conspirator.
Gypsy was abused horrifically and knew no other way of living other than manipulating in order to survive. That is the level she would have been brainwashed by her abuser - that if she didn't go along with it, she would for example have been told that she would go to prison, or lose her mother to prison, be homeless... or... etc. She didn't have any outside influences to help her out of this situation because everyone believed her to be sick. There's extreme codependency and no doubt extreme Stockholm syndrome. Personally I think deedee had it coming and by that I'm not saying they should have killed her but that she really ought to have realised that when gypsy grew up she wouldn't want to live that way any longer and if she wasn't allowed to leave, she would create an escape plan. Deedee was imo the most evil person in the case.
So it's crazy to say she wasn't victimised. But the moment she became the manipulator of Nicholas in order to murder her abuser she then became the perpetrator of abuse.imo.
I think the justice system really dropped the ball in this case. I don't think either of them should've got a life sentence. Both should've got the 10 years - gypsy because of the horrific abuse she suffered, and Nicholas because of his learning difficulties, obsessive tendencies and how he was used and manipulated by gypsy.
She is a real piece of doodoo for how she tried to frame it as him raping her etc. Sick.
I do.love seeing her get taken down a peg or two when she realises the investigator isn't buying her bs. She simply doesn't know what to do with that and her squirming is joyous to me.

@@Justynbrodsky123 idk man, if you are raised from birth being told that you’re terminally ill with one thing or another, and your mom moves you any time any doctors get suspicious, and your mom makes sure you don’t have contact with any relatives, the I don’t think she’s as culpable in the schemes as you think. Deedee also lied to her about her age so she believed she was younger than she was. She was completely under her mothers thumb and I think in an abusive situation with this severity she couldn’t possibly be very complicit in these grifts

I’ve seen this story on other forums, and I have to say besides the fake tears out of Gypsy during this interrogation, no one cried about the death of that TERRIBLE woman that was her mother. Ugh, I feel really bad for Nick and for Gypsy. Both of them were so screwed up and had zero mental health care…. Now they’re in jail, which we all know is not rehabilitation. This story can be summed up in 3 words:

It’s absolutely disgusting! Gypsy learned how to manipulate from the very best (& most evil). But her haste to blame Nicolas & leave his ass in the dust, while he would have literally died for her, this whole situation is so sad! I don’t get why Nick got a life sentence while Gypsy got like 10 years🤷🏽♀️. Typically, the mastermind in solicited murder usually receives longer or, at least, equal sentences as the actual “trigger man” does. The fact that he’s of low IQ & has mental defects makes this circumstance so much more of a miscarriage of justice. I felt so sorry for Gypsy until she tossed Nick under the bus, laughing inside while fake crying on the outside!
The thing about this whole case that really chills me is that this all probably started the very day gypsy was born if not sooner. Her mother was relishing in the attention from being at the hospital while she was born and there’s no way in hell she didn’t think to herself that she’d do anything to get back in that position again while sitting in that hospital bed holding her newborn baby.
I'd heard of this story before but never once heard about Nicholas Godejohn, which is a tragedy. I am honestly feeling anger towards Gypsy, especially knowing in a few short years she will be walking free and Nick will be behind bars until he's an old man.

I dont understand how professional doctors are scammed by that freaky looking mother. To just carry out these procedures on gypsy for conditions that did not even exist?? Wtf???? Nobody picked up on anything also i know truth can be stranger than fiction. I know gypsy was a victim too but she the monster her mother created. Effectively he has the mental ability of like a young teen whereas gypsy has an adult comprehension even if she has other mental issues. You basically have an adult convincing a child to kill someone and getting a much lighter sentence when he has so much potential for reform.
The Grammy absolutely sent me. I’ve seen a lot of media coverage factual and dramatized about this case- and at no point did I fully grasp how intelligent Gypsy actually is. She really did “learn [manipulation] from the best.” Absolutely insane. Even at that I still feel so much sympathy for her and the ordeal she had to endure her entire life. Not saying it’s right, but I truly can see why she did what she did. The saddest part of all of this to me is the fact a lovesick, deeply mentally unstable bystander just by chance happened to get involved in this situation. Not that he is innocent or justified either, especially hearing his prior charge. But both of these individuals needed help so badly. The entire situation is so sickening and devastating.

She did, I saw her do an interview a year or two after getting locked up, she looked healthy and happy, but VERY shifty. It looked like she prob runs the block in there, super calculated and deceitful and just all around manipulative. I also think she's out of jail or about to be out of jail, she didn't get that long of a sentence if my memory serves me. Seeing as she was taught nothing but deceit and manipulation I can't blame her though, she's just doing what she knows best.

I seriously wondered that. But she kept changing doctors and lying all the time so idk if she was fabricating forms or not. In the hulu series she stole a doctor's prescription pad. So she may have been doing something like that but that still doesn't explain away how the doctors were operating and not noticing nothing was wrong. But idk. Maybe some surgeries are placebos 😮 no idk. Because if she was a kid idk really this is a good question. I wish some of the doctors came forward.
If you shop around for long enough you'll find a doctor that will do just about anything.
And then once you get that fake diagnosis from one doctor you can take it to a more reputable Doctor who will see it, and believe it, and then continue to prescribe treatment.
And then once you've got that you can tell your kid to fake certain symptoms or you can make the kid sick yourself, and then they'll see that along with the prior diagnosis and give you more diagnoses and once you got a whole bunch of them then doctors will just believe what you tell them!!
Gypsy isn't "the victim" in this situation.... Sure, she was a victim of her mother's BS, but NICK IS THE MANIPULATED ONE here.... Gypsy USED Nick, and at first she tried her absolute hardest to pin it ALL on him, when it HER who controlled the entire situation....
You know, it really is funny how fickle you people are. Someone was raised poorly and proceeds to do some horrible shit? Never an excuse, person needs to die. Someone was manipulated and used? Always an excuse, doesn’t deserve what they got.
One of the most child like, revealing thing this dude says during the interview happens around 5:48...The detective asks him what kind of relationship does he have with Gypsy and he replies, "Its...one of those committed ones." It just shows his child like demeanor and his innocence shines through. Now, I am not saying he shouldn't be punished for murder. I am saying he should have been shown some sort of leniency due to his extreme vulnerability! After all, Gypsy walks away with only ten years due to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother. Had this young man not come along when he did, her mother would have surely killed her in some way. In the documentary about this case, DeeDee parents say that she got what she had coming to her because she was evil! If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what will...
They also flushed her ashes down the toilet.

Should not be legal for police to interrogate someone with obvious cognitive disabilities without a lawyer present. Watching this was very frustrating
100% agree! They took advantage of that boy, who clearly had an IQ of a minor. That was really frustrating & devastating to watch, as much as that lady interrogator “buttered him up,” it was clear as day that he wasn’t able to understand what was happening, he didn’t have the cognitive abilities to understand his Miranda rights.
If only people never faked that.
It does feel extremely wrong but when you think about it how many other interrogations have we watched with people who don’t have any disability’s, get sucked in by these interrogators. I’ve seen this story so many times focusing on Gypsy and what she was going through, but there was always so little focus on Nicholas. This video is so important to see what he went through too, and to see what Gypsy’s trauma turned her into. Nicholas is so rarely shown as a victim and this video is so important.
I've watched so many documentaries and such of Gypsy, but never of him. It was really interesting.
Special needs guy is manipulated into killing someone, cops interrogate him without a lawyer to get him into more trouble, he gets a life sentence while the girl who planned the whole thing walks away with a light sentence because the attorney "felt bad giving her more"? This is horrible, every cop and lawyer involved needs to be thrown in jail with him.

I've seen many documentaries about this case but hadn't seen the actual interrogation of Nicholas before.
I am so conflicted about his sentencing because I'm not sure how competent he is mentally. I feel like mental health treatment would help him much more than simply prison.
He is easily manipulated. Gypsy went thru years of abuse. Neither are totally innocent , obviously.

In the Uk where I live he wouldn’t of been able to be interrogated without a “responsible adult” with him, even with legal counsel there as he’s on the spectrum. His sentence is totally unfair as he doesn’t fully understand the ramifications of what he’s done.
Yea, I feel that not only was he manipulated by Gypsy, but the detectives as well. One conversation with this young man, and you would know he has some sort of deficiency. I don’t agree with his sentence. Nor do I agree with Gypsy’s. They were 2 children playing “adult”.
I would mind neither sentence if they shared it-10 for him or 30 for her. He does know murder was wrong, but you could argue her manipulation makes him less culpable. You could also argue her forethought and planning and denial of responsibility makes her as guilty of first degree as him. I can’t help but feel the prosecutor was swayed by her tears more than he should have been.
He should have been convicted to life in an institution rather than prison
He’s able to make decisions independently enough to live on his own without needing an adult guardian. He knew that murder was wrong & felt guilty afterwards. His vulnerability was his attachment disorder & obsession with Gypsy, not his autism. He’s competent enough to choose to be a murderer & to tell Gypsy to cover her ears & stay in the bathroom because he knew it would be brutal & painful. If the victim was an innocent good person & Gypsy just wanted to be free of her & have access to the money she had, how would that change your perspective?
As a teacher, I have seen some of these behaviors. They have to be addressed early in a child’s life. I’m wondering if his family tried to get him help! The Mother is the classic case of Munchausen by Proxy. Gypsy never had a chance in hell with her Mother.

It is a sad story of that there is no doubt. I had a friend whom I went to Elementary School and Middle School with, in October 1987 he took a shotgun and killed both his parents, I knew him so well and with some people you just never see these things coming. Btw I just found out he just got parole which shocked me, I know 1987 was a long time ago but his crime was brutal and there's people that get life on one murder, I don't know what I'll say to him when I run in to him because this is a small town and I'm sure I'll see him at the market or the mall etc...

Gypsy is terrifying. It'll be interesting to see what she gets up to when she's released from prison.
Gypsy claimed rape, what a manipulative itch. She orchestrated the whole thing and her betrayal of her vulnerable boyfriend was complete. Her 10 year sentence is an injustice.
This case makes me so angry. The amount of time she got, compared to the amount of time Nick got is crazy. Yes, she was a victim of her mother, but Nick became a victim of Gypsy. They should have both gotten the same amount of time. Anybody could see that Nick was not mentally healthy. He wouldn't have even tried to cover up the crime. She planned everything from beginning to end and yet he is the only one in jail for the rest of his life. The sentence should have been increased for Gypsy.
Obviously he was proven to be competent...he knew what he was doing. Autistic people can commit some horrible crimes just like anyone else.

Yes, the court did see him competent enough to stand trial and clearly he is capable of committing a terrible crime, but in his case he's pretty much being punished like he acted alone. Gypsy literally put the knife in his hand, so like I said, in my opinion, they should have gotten the same sentence or at the least, Gypsy should have gotten a bit more time than she did.

As otherd have said, if Gypsy had killed her mother it may well have been ruled justifiable homicide.
She was raised to believe manipulation = love. You have to make people show their love by doing things that arent normal.
He was not (in my opinion) of sound mind to be interrogated without representation or even charged with murder as he is clearly of diminished mental acuity. He was vulnerable and felt he was doing what needed to be done to earn Gypsy's love and them to be together.
Is it all justified and right? No. They should be punished however, neither of them are mentally stable enough to understand the ramifications nor were in a position to ask for help before the act or during interrogation.
This case is just sad and highlights how many people failed them both. From those close to them and medical professionals alike.

She mentioned in the documentary how Tangled was her favorite Disney movie and talked about when Eugene cut Rapunzel’s hair and killed Gothel. Gypsy wanted to live out her fantasy of a fairytale. It was her idea of being the princess she saw herself as.

gypsy was TORTURED for years by her mother. One time she did escape for a short period and once she was returned, her mother handcuffed her to the bed for about a month, I think. So, there was NO recourse in Gypsy's mind but the death of her mother.
She has actually blossomed in prison as it has been far freer and safer than her life before.
I find it extremely unfair that Nick got life in prison while Gypsy only got 10 years.
She was looking for a vulnerable man to manipulate.
She was the one who orchestrated everything, if she just never found Nick, she would have just found someone else to do it.

I have sympathy for him trying to live in a society not willing to help him, just as I have sympathy for her having been the victim of such a parent. But Gypsy could have just run away, or even done the deed herself and likely faced no more and maybe even less punishment than she did. But she wanted to get off if at all possible, so she manipulated Nick. He loved her with an unhealthy obsession that clearly he had nobody to help him temper and control. He thought he was protecting her, and as others have pointed out, it’s probable Deedee would eventually have tried to kill Gypsy, so there’s an element of defense that I get. I just don’t get why the same mitigating circumstances in her case didn’t apply to his, nor why the aggravating circumstances in his didn’t apply to her. It was premeditated, it was Gypsy’s plan, and Nick was her weapon. But he clearly has a lower mental capacity and other neurodivergent issues and she was being abused. So why the disparity in sentences?
When the interrogator told her that her mom was dead and kept trying to get her attention while she was crying telling her to look at the pencil I was half expecting him to go "You see this pencil? Basically this is your mom" *breaks pencil in half*
I saw a documentary on Gypsy and the other part is even though she's in jail she seems pretty freaking happy just to be free from her mother. That's so sad

It’s an awful chain reaction of abuse. Gypsy’s mom abused her to the point she thought this was how she could escape. Nick was manipulated by Gypsy to do something awful he never would have done. While it’s good the only physical harm that happened ended up being done to the mom (ya reap what ya sow), Nick’s life didn’t deserve to be thrown into this hurricane.
Would he really never have done this if she hadn’t manipulated him though? If he was in love with someone who was being physically abused, even if she never manipulated him, just confided in him as a friend & was attracted to him, don’t you think that he would have murdered the abuser so he could be with her?
It’s not about his autism since he’s not that significantly impaired in his thinking. It’s more about his attachment disorder & the lengths he would go to, to be with a girl who would love him the way he was desperate for someone to. You’ll need to be as specific as possible. There can’t be any vagueness in these parameters.

A sick mother who went to such horrible extremes with a child, was going to be faced with that child growing up and walking away, exposing her. There was no way out of that. In the US cops are allowed to lie during interrogation - and you have to directly invoke your constitutional rights. An example of this is you’re not getting a lawyer unless you specifically say something along the lines of “I want an attorney and will not answer any questions without them present. “

I don't think it's wrong at all. The truth is the truth, and he was the best way to get it. Gypsy was ruined by her mother, and thus became a monster. She deserved to be destroyed by the same man she manipulated.

My son has autism and to know how easily they can be influenced just has my blood pressure up and I'm going to say it....Nick was a victim and I do not believe he deserves to in prison for life. Same here. My little dude is so sweet, and he just believes in good. I get worried about him being duped by others. I'm doing my best to teach him to be independent, to really what people do, and to not just listen to what they say they do.

I mostly agree with you expect for the part about Gypsy being able to speak up. The girl was basically tortured her whole life and regardless of how evil she either was or wasn't, if she thought speaking alone would of saved her she would of done it. She also saw first hand her mother manipulate (from her perspective) the entire world to get tons of money and even a free house. I think she used Nick too and took notes from her mother but if you watch a Gypsy focused video you can understand why she would think it was her only why out. I also think there wasn't a way for this girl to have turned out a good person under her mother. That woman basically never let the girl leave her side.

How the hell did they allow Godejohn to be interrogated without someone there? That detective understood that this kid didn't have the capacity to truly understand what he was saying/doing (in the bigger picture, that is) during the interrogation, yet she pushed on.
Because it’s not about what’s ethical, it’s about the results. Loads are detectives are lazy bums who would rather have a coerced confession than no confession at all. In this case they prayed on his disability and used his low intelligence against him. He did the crime, the issue is that his awareness about the crime he was committing and the manipulation behind it, It’s a terrible case all around.

When the detective asked if he loves gypsy and he said “oh, do I ever” it made me so sad :-/ romantic love is really really incredible and beautiful and so enriching to have in your life but it’s so heartbreaking how many people go for the first person they meet who shows them affection because they think they NEED a partner. I wish it was easier to teach kids that a relationship is something that should enhance your life and who you are, not something your life should revolve around. If nick had that understanding, he would realize that this relationship is not worth killing for, and that anyone who loves him would not ask him to do that.
My question is this: where were all the doctors who should have recognized that these illness symptoms WEREN'T adding up?! They severely failed this girl. Personally, I think the Hell Gypsy went through during an essential period of her development should have put her in a mental facility, not jail. This seems like it was self defense, because I agree with her that the police probably wouldn't believe her, and then her mother probably would have punished her.
