Hello and welcome to my spoiler-free review of Sonic Frontiers - the first ever open-world Sonic The Hedgehog game and Sonic Team's most ambitious game of all time! Released in November 2022 for the PC, Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, can this new entry breathe some much-needed new life into the Sonic franchise after the forgettable, previous mainline entry in the series - 2017's 'Sonic Forces'?
After a rocky start for the game's promotion with some sketchy, pop-up filled, janky-looking gameplay revealed by IGN back in June of 2022, how has Sonic Frontiers turned out? Let's take a look as I check out Sonic Frontiers on the Xbox Series X!
Apologies for the lateness of this video by the way. Although I did get the game and complete it within a week of launch, I was away for much of November and December so I've only just had time to edit this review now.
(Also, although I don't talk about it in this video, I tried the Nintendo Switch version too and I was pleasantly surprised, but maybe we can talk about that some other time.)
Anyway, as always, if you enjoy the video please hit the like button as it helps me out a lot. And if you haven't done so yet, please consider subscribing for high-quality, evergreen Sonic and SEGA videos.
    Thank you!

Thank you so much for checking out this video. I know this review dropped late, but I got it out in the end. I'll be much quicker off the mark with a review for the story DLC when it eventually drops. If you enjoyed the video please hit the like button, share this video, subscribe if you haven't etc. And be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments. Cheers!

As I was born in the late 80s, I grew up with Sonic from day one and was a mega fan. When sonic transitioned to 3d, I got more and more disheartened from the franchise, though I kept a close eye on it.
When Sonic Frontiers came along I was sceptical, but intrigued. I bought a copy and, my god, it's the best Sonic game I've played in a very, VERY long time. Though it needs tweaking here and there, the formula works! It can be the "blue" print (pun very much intended ;D) going forward.
I did think, it was a little too easy though, and I played it on hard mode and platinumed it without problem.
The music was absolutely amazing here! And tbh I've always thought sonic does suit dance/techno music depending on setting (Such as the Pal/Jap Sonic CD soundtrack), but Metal really suits sonic for these pure Anime vibes! (We need an epic Metal Sonic fight next lol)
I did notice that, without boosting, the momentum in the Cyber stages felt incredibly slow, and no spin dash? Come on lol. Also I agree that its annoying seeing THE EXACT SAME zones for the classics (not just in this game, but many sonic games). They always go back to green hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Sanctuary zone. I want a 3D Flying Battery zone, a Casino Night zone, something lol. (And they even use repeated stage layouts to Sonic generations which seems kinda lazy.)
And that end boss....I will admit I liked the music for that Moon thing boss, kinda had a final secret boss vibe from a Persona game or something, but it was kinda weak for a climax.
And finally I wanna say this. I even got misty eyed at this by the end. I felt far more emotionally attached to the characters in this game than nearly any other. Dr. Eggman actually had some great character development that showed a very different, and vulnerable side to him, and I emphasized with him, especially with the Farther/daughter dynamic that was going on (I really did like Sage as a character!).
Man, I felt bad for Robotnik, something I never thought I'd say. Well done game, and now Hilltop, I can safely say I'm finally fully invested in Sonic again! Great video as always.

Thank you! That's great to hear you're back on board with our blue boy! I'm glad you liked it too. Your review of it is spot on and I think I agree with you 100%! With everything! I enjoyed 'blue' print lol.
      Cheers again for watching!

Other than the few unique ones, there's actually only a single one that's a remake of a level that's not from SA2, Sega Unleashed, or Sega Generations (SA1 Ice Cap), the rest are only taken from those three games

Cheers! I couldn't remember how many there were when writing this. I just knew I'd definitely played some from SA2, Unleashed and Generations during my play through.

It's from Sonic The Fighters. I'll check the name and get back to you 🙂 (I was afraid of the video getting a copyright notice if I used to much Sonic Frontiers music. I know Sonic The Fighters is okay to use.)
