Get a hammer. Seriously! Hello fellow cycle-heads. My friend neglected his ride for 3 years(yes, shame on him). Gas cap key would turn but not open. I got a small rubber mallet and tapped the gas cap while turning the key. Three taps was all it took. Vibration lubricant, lol. Good luck friends...now get out and ride 😎👍
Ok guys this is a simple fix and I am surprised no one seems to know. Most tanks have some fuel in when the cap/lock is stuck. Yes lubricate the barrel etc but it is simply a matter of removing the tank and INVERTING the tank. This allows the remaining fuel to lubricate the lock mechanisms and latch area. Hold in this position for around 1 minute and try the key again. I have 100% success rate with this. If you have an empty tank put fuel in the tank via the underside ie remove fuel tap or sending unit.

Unfortunately my old dinosaur bike which is a 97 zx7r Ninja doesn't have one of those so I still had to drill it out but thank you so much for the video

Actually, you can take the outer screws out from the tank. Remove the outer layer and you can simply take a flat head. Screwdriver pry the key portion of the lock out from the tank. I've done it multiple times. It just takes a little patience. That's it
I had this problem and got it open by just turning the key but it took a long time but I made the mistake of not cleaning the latch very well and they got stuck again but this time it's not opening so I'll probably have to do what you did
I got lucky. I got it open one last time. Anyone that has one that's getting tight better lube it up. Just open the tank and remove the two screws. Make sure you cover the hole in the tank or a tiny spring will drop in. I almost didn't figuring it would come off all together. Mine works as good as new with some lube.

Didn't work for me. I guess it's pretty bad. It's an old bike, I think I'll just give up on this one and get something in better shape.

Thinking maybe if the gas by just flipping the tank got in to the locking mechanism and lubed it just enough to free it.

the thing is device need to be parked inside or covered because the rain creates calcium deposits or oxidation and that's why it gets locked up

Find yourself a big bin and empty out the tank in the bin.
