- I let my 2007 Suzuki sit for about 6 months. The tank was empty and the bike was outside but under cover. The latch was completely frozen. I sped it up because I was talking really slow and didn't want to make you watch a 12 minute video
I loved this video! I have a sticky, but openable, cap like this on my SV650. Showed me how to disassemble and repair.
My favorite quote at 3:57 "I don't know what I'm doing, but uh, neither do you and that's why you're watching this video." Priceless! I love the way OP forges ahead to find a solution. That's how it's done.
I owe you a beer, this actually worked. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video just saved my gas tank I was ready to scrap the whole thing. This works on a 2005 Suzuki GSXF 600 Katana.
Incredible! Worked like a charm! 5 minutes and Wham Bam...off! I have 2012 Kawasaki Concours and I have always had the problem of the "tangs" getting corroded and getting stuck. Eventually, something broke inside and the tangs would not release. The lock portion would just spin freely. Most other videos ended with drilling...UGH!I have replaced with a keyless Vortex V3. Works like a charm!Thank you, Thank you...THANK YOU!
This video saved the day for me. It took a bit of force, but it worked. Now I've taken out all the tumblers so I don't get locked out again.
Your Alvin the chipmunk voice is awesome lol good job
You are so awesome. This worked on my SV650 first gen
You have just been chosen as the king of the internet 😁. Great video!
Thanks a lot.. I could not able to open up gas cap in this way but after opening gas cap using different technique I used ur cleaning n fixing method n it really helped..!!
How did you open yours
"I dont know what Im doing, but neither do you. Thats why you're watching this video." touche.
The voice is comical! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much: totally worked for me, pranged my vx800, let it stand for 9 months, completely seized
It worked!! Ty!!! Seen a million videos this one was different and it worked. Did nick the paint but have a few spots I have to fix anyways. Ty!!!
Great! Glad it helped.
Thank you, about to give it a try 👍🏼
Sweet. Glad this old video is still helping people fix their bikes! Let me know if it works! What type of bike do you have?
Thought this was crazy but it worked! Tank rusted to crap but at least I saved the tumblers for the next tank/lock. 1993 Suzuki Katana btw
great video. saved me. thank you sir
Hey bud nice vid. Well done. Only issue is that there is a small stainless steel bearing ball that goes under the plate you are putting on at 3:37. The ball is to to do with the tank cap venting and sealing.
I don't know what I'm doing and so do you, that's why you're watching this video 🤣....bravo on the recovery where most would just dump off at shop where they'd say you need a new tank and cap
You really help me! (on my RGV250)
This is a great video, @Harrison Co. I had the same problem and this did the trick. One question. Unter the latch mechanism, there's an area with 4 springs and a single ball bearing. Where does that bearing fit? (the spings are straight forward, but there are a few places the ball can rest).
Gotta ask. That wooden "stick" you use as a pointer is actually a spatula used to collect pap smear samples. How did you come up with that?
May help me!!!
My fuel flap will not open. Lots of lube on the key and barrel and still no good.
Took fuel tap off so I could get into the bottom of the tank but they are not very big holes so I'm struggling to get lube to the catch.
Took those 3 bolts out but you need the cap up to release the ring from the tank so I'm still struggling.
May tip it upside down with enough oil in the soak into the catch.
Going to try this again but mine was/appears to be much tighter than yours.
Different Suzukis could be similar but year to year they could have different dimensions. Take all the screws out and you might get more clearance for the cap to move around. On mine 3 thread into the tank and pull the cap down and one pushes down on that post.
can i still use this method if theres a screw inside the cap?
Not totally sure. Worth a try!
my mother in law sounds just like you 😅
Whatever happened to that fuel tank of yours, this is NOT how it left the factory. I just got back from my garage, checking 11 GS500E tanks, one GS500F tank and one XF650 tank, and none of them had the indentation you described. It looks like somebody has already been using force to open your fuel tank, making you lucky enough to be able to open/remove the lid this way. But under normal circumstances it wouldn't be that easy...
DUDE...U JUST GOT MY gascap off...
Glad it helped!
Haha wouw i have 94 gs500e but my tank cap never looked like that XD you leave it out in the rain everyday or so?
Worked for 2002 gsx1300r! 👍🏿
Thanks this worked for me with a little force was able to turn and remove without any damage, 99 Suzuki vz800 marauder
Glad this video I slapped together 3 years ago is still saving y’all’s gas tanks!
That worked with Flathead and some prying
Get a hammer. Seriously! Hello fellow cycle-heads. My friend neglected his ride for 3 years(yes, shame on him). Gas cap key would turn but not open. I got a small rubber mallet and tapped the gas cap while turning the key. Three taps was all it took. Vibration lubricant, lol. Good luck friends...now get out and ride 😎👍
Oh I definitely tried that first
The other screws are just for decoration. kind of stupid.
What is with the really irritating voice? Had to fast forward to not hear it then just gave up because of it
I’m SO sorry for what I have done… I sped it up so it was be nice a short so you could get back to working on your bike.
YOU ARE GOD !!!❤
