If I just want like, a solid pen. That writes on paper. Maaaaybe ink on the side. Staedler or Faber-Castel quality; doesn't matter. Well, that's what I want.
Fellow thyroid problem girlie here! I had radioiodine a few years back to kill my thyroid gland after being diagnosed with Graves’ disease, people don’t realise that it’s a battle that effects the rest of your life via diet and medication and is a huge pain to manage! I’m right here with you, you’re doing amazing ❤
Hope you’re doing ok 🥹🫶🏻🩷
@@sharlainjapanI’m doing great now thank you! 💕
I have Graves disease as well, got it back in 2011. And sadly I got TED disease shortly after (Thyroid Eye Disease), visually my eye disease is not too bad, but sadly the effect of it is causing huge issues for my quality of life. Definitely know about the diet and medicine management and how much of a pain it is!
They didn't even tell me there are foods to avoid, and they always dose on blood work, not symptoms. It's an absolute pain, I never feel medicated right (might be more complicated if it's Hashimoto, it's fluctuating a lot)
I take ashwaganda (570 mg) every day to control my hypothyroidism and it works well for me. If I go too long without it, I am very, very tired.
That meowing register at the grocery store is wild. 😂 Japan is on a different level.
My Japanese rice maker plays twinkle twinkle little star when I start it and my Japanese washer/dryer plays a song I don’t recognize but that goes on for almost 2 minutes.p when they finish. It’s hilarious and sometimes annoying.
German here, you can make your own vanilla sugar. All you need is a stick of real vanilla and of course sugar. My mom used a jar when I was younger to keep it in and give it a shake every couple of weeks. Recently she told me that you can use the stick of vanilla several times. Love watching your videos, thanks for sharing them. 😊
I actually like the home-made more because often the store bought vanilla sugar has artificial flavor (Vanillin) in it and thus is actually called "Vanillinzucker"
We also do this, it works really well! We actually don't use the vanilla pod just for this. We use the seeds for a recipe that requires it and put the empty pod into the sugar. We have a bunch of pods in our sugar by now 😅 from time to time i steel bits because the sugar crystallizes onto the pods and that's really tasty as well 🙊
@@TheToxicinside Important to note that Vanillin is just the compound in vanilla that makes vanilla taste like vanilla. It's only "artificial" because it was made separately instead of being extracted from vanilla beans, it's otherwise chemically identical.
Yess, I love vanilla sugar and decided to make my own as well. Saves you a bunch of money and smells absolutely divine.
My mum did this she would also do this with lavender to make lavender cakes!
I always get happy when I see Ushka in your videos. She comes across as having such a calming, positive energy.
Agreed! She seems like the best friend ❤
Sharla said Big Tesco like a brit- so cute :D
I'm debating whether or not this video is fake based on the statement that Chris really likes something with vegetables in it
I’m doing my best to convert him to a veggie lover🤣
Stuff the broccoli inside a fried chicken
😅
Make him this broccoli salad and he will love broccoli. It's broccoli chopped up. Add crumbled cooked bacon. Half a red/purple onion finely chopped. I like to add craisins, but you can use raisins. Then add sunflower seeds, out of shell. Lol. Then make a sauce with 1 cup of mayo, 3 Tbsp white vinegar, a dash of black pepper, and 3 Tbsp or to your taste of sugar. Mix well. Mix into the bowl of broccoli, onion, bacon, sunflower seeds and craisins. I'll warn you, it's very addictive.
I know that having any kind of health issue that you have to manage every day can definitely seem overwhelming, but I give you a ton of credit and don't let it ever get you down. You were doing what you have to to stay healthy and be alive which is what we all want! If my doctor told me tomorrow that I could only eat sticks from the middle of the forest to stay alive, I guess I'm now a forest dweller. I have just one pill that I have to take every day but it is absolutely necessary that I take it and it's a small comparison to yours, but I'm right there with you.❤
Imagine having a gf/partner stay up till 3am making energy bars for your trip. She’s a keeper for sure. 👏 👏 😢❤
Fellow thyroid issue lady here! Been dealing with hypothyroidism for 15 yrs or so and it's so hard to manage. Diet etc def helps, but it's hard when those cravings hit 😭
I'm Korean and it's great to see my favorite youtuber eat Korean food❤ if you fry kimchi with oil it tastes even better, it's called 볶음김치 or 김치볶음. many people like adding canned tuna in it(참치김치볶음). and although i think you keep your diet mostly vegetarian, it is AWESOME if you fry pork belly in a pan and then fry kimchi in the same pan. the oil from pork makes it super tasty. try that if it doesn't disturb your health! i love your videos💕
I love kimchi fried with tofu and sesame oil. Then I eat it with steamed rice. It's my favourite meal!
Thanks for the good ideas ☺
5 year thyroid disease girly here (Hashimoto’s) - just wanted to say there really isn’t enough scientific research that’s been done to support removing specific foods from your diet for thyroid problems (besides MAYBE leaning towards organic soy products). Everyone’s body is different, and reacts to foods differently just like medication. Just don’t want you to be avoiding things for no reason! 😊 although for sure the simpler/smaller the ingredient list the better overall! And def recommend trying a food diary out to see what foods actually cause issues for you!
I was thinking the same thing. I already have to cut out gluten and dairy because I'm really allergic to it. Also garlic, all kinds of oranges, corn syrup, electrolytes, corn oil. So I know it's a pain to do. But those items cause immediate problems if I eat any. So I haven't for almost 11 years now.
I’ve had thyroidism nearly 25 years (Hashimoto’s) this is the first I’ve heard of food types being an issue beyond eating too close to the Levothyroxine.
Great advice! Hypothyroidism here for over 30 years since I was little. A food diary and elimination diet where you add something back for a few weeks (thyroid reactions can take awhile to identify) can help figure out what works for you. For example I do just fine if I cook goitrogens, they make me feel better. When I was having issues with T4 not converting to T3 I switched to Tirosint which seemed to work better for me along with liver cleanses. Some people prefer natural thyroid supplements though I find them hard to manage. Lots of trial and error, wish all the other people dealing with this the best in finding what works for you. And know that it can change over time (fun!). So you may need to adjust if you are feeling off.
I came here to say the same. I also have Hashimoto's and I asked my thyroid doc a lot of food related questions. They said what you said. They also mentions that everyone reacts differently to certain foods and you simply have to try if cutting out certain foods makes you feel better. Personally I just have to avoid dairy and that's it.
Why add the "s" ? Its called "Hashimoto" like "Alzheimer" not Alzheimer'S😅
Love that you've learned the difference between Tesco and Big Tesco 😂 officially an honorary Brit.
I have Hashimoto's disease and am a Thyroid advocate and I'm so glad to hear you sharing about T3. I LOT of people who are hypothyroid are not helped by T4 alone. I hope that it will help someone who watches your channel! I eat Brazil Nuts every day too!
I had no idea about this and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 9! I still have symptoms despite being on medication.
Thanks so much for sharing - Im wondering if this is regardless if your blood levels show up fine? Ive been trying to advocate but my Drs just ignore me
Im glad you clarified it was a big tesco for the decaf tea. Lord knows what would have happened if i ended up at a tesco express
Disappointment
@sharlainjapan and I hate to say, a little bit of resentment haha
The Sakura are absolutely gorgeous! It's my dream to see them before I die.
With that said, as someone with several chronic health problems, thank you for sharing how you manage yours. I wish more people shared their journeys to show that, with proper management, we can have normal, productive lives. Hugs 💜💜💜
I had parathyroid surgery almost two months ago now. I also had a kidney transplant in 2019 and Hashimoto's. I take a literal mountain of meds every day. You're doing the best things for yourself! 😊 Chronic illness is not an easy road, but you've got this! ❤
the Sakura bloomed early in Washington, DC and then we got lucky and the temperatures dropped and that causes the blooms to stick around for longer. It's been a glorious cherry blossom blooming this year in Washington, DC.
I've been watching Connor's cycling streams and they have been praising the bars you and Ushka made a lot, so clearly you did an amazing job!
My milk frother is my favourite thing, I have a latte every morning now. It feels like a treat even though it's just frothed milk.
Right! I love it so much! 🥹☕️🩷
I love my milk frother as well. I need to use that thing more.
This was definitely one of the things that made me finally love my coffee at home! (And kick my expensive coffee-from-the-shop habit. …A tiny bit.)
Is there a milk that works best for frothing? What do you use?
@@legendofburb 1% cow milk works best for getting a good foam - milk replacements just don't froth as well, though you can still get a bit of foam.
Those bars look really good and I love the golden ticket idea. It cracked me up how salty Chris was that Conner got the first golden ticket even though he'd eaten fewer bars than Chris. I feel your pain having to deal with tyroid meds. They are the most annoying medication I take since they are so temperamental about how long before or after you can take any other medicine or eat anything. It makes it really difficult to schedule it around meals and my other meds.
Hey Sharla, I love What-I-Eat-in-a-Day videos too. I think it's cool that you included your current lifestyle changes due to your thyroid condition. I'm sure others with similar issues will find it relatable too, and those that don't, like myself, will find your new dietary requirements interesting. Your 100x health bars looked amazing - I'm going to have to attempt making those!
Thank you for being transparent about medication & drinking lots of water. I live with Bipolar disorder and have to drink a lot of water with a medication that I take or else my levels of Lithium could become toxic. I love drinking water, so its never been an issue
Great video ❤ Thank you
I’m getting half of my thyroid removed in two weeks because of two masses they found. I’m not nearly as worried about it as I could be because I watched your videos of you going through the same thing. I really appreciate you for that, though I wish neither of us would have to go through this at all.
Ah man, sorry you have to go through that too!! Let me know if you ever have any questions about it 🫶🏻❤️❤️
Oh! Are we getting the recipe for the snack bars you made for cyclethon 3? Aha, just read the description. Nice. I've made protein bars a couple times. coconut butter base IIRC.
I saw those! It's so hard to get good shape and consistency for bar form snacks from scratch. The snack bars turned out great!
Looks like the baking sheet depth, tight packing, and refrige before cutting made a difference in bar integrity.
... I assume the ones that didn't hold up are surprise trail mix/granola topping now. 👀
Your previous video from two years ago, helped me discover that I also had a swollen thyroid. Subsequently, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. Though it's been tough, I want to express my gratitude for raising awareness through your RUclips videos. Thank you❤
Hashimoto’s is tough, I’m so sorry you have to deal with that >< But it’s great that you got diagnosed and can work on feeling better 💪❤️
We met in summer ´23 on your charityevent, that was such a nice meeting, you are so heartwarming. And in this video u use german Sauerkraut and our vanilla sugar, that was sooo nice to see 😍! Thank you for your great content. Kills a little bit the travelfever!
I just got back from traveling for 35 days in Japan and all I can say is, it's the perfect food culture! I had at least 70 good meals, OK, great meals, and literally everything I had was always excellent. From 7-Eleven foods to high-end restaurants. It was incredibly inspiring to see this culture of excellence at every level of service and food. I love the country and the food and the people and had an extraordinary experience. Thank you for all your great videos.
17:06 big Tesco getting a shoutout, we all love a big Tesco in the UK 😂
I know how you feel! I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes around the same time (and age). It is such a huge shift in daily life - from everything to food choices and restrictions, and medications just to function. You are so inspiring though ❤ It's so important to still be silly and have fun in life despite the health stuff 🥰
Hey hey, fellow thyroid person again (also on tetroxin and eltroxin). Just a thing I learned: Find out if your thyroid meds are glutin-free or not, if they're not you need to take them 4 hours before you eat or drink, otherwise they wont fully absorb, if they are glutin-free only 2 hours before you eat or drink your morning breakkie & Coffee. - and LAST tip, take the tetroxin at night before bed along with your calcium, VitD and other meds, don't take it in the morning with your thyroid hormone. Again absorption issues and can affect the efficacy of the hormone replacement.
Dont know about you, but I love the tetroxin - My depression, feeling dizzy and brain-fuzzy is soooo much better - honestly starting to feel human again & also actually losing weight now which is AMAZING. Thanks for the energy bar recipe! Going to add these to my lunchbox :)
Woww as a recent follower, I didn't know about your health condition, and overcoming cancer. Respect to you, and all my empathy, to go through that and then have to deal with medication and dietary restrictions. I love that you're out there making awesone content and teaching us all about life in Japan. Big love to you ❤
Im not joking when i say i love watching sharla, i hope to meet her one day 😭
Thanks for sharing! Great video! The glass set is tempting!
I really enjoyed this content, thank you Sharla
Love this video I love your food vlogs there so calming
It’s so cute that you made the bars for their cycling adventure! ❤
This was a wonderful, cozy, comfort -type, video. Thank you!❤
Vids with Ushka are always cozy, so cool you two became friends and business partners. Wholesome content.
First Rachel and Jun post today and now you. What an amazing day!!
I’m always fascinated when you make food Sharla 😆 just love hearing the sounds and seeing the end result ❤
Would absolutely LOVE to see more of these!! 💕 going to buy the tea right now…👀💕
sharla's videos are so homey and cozy. i love her.
Yay, a Sharla vid! Can't wait to see you evolve.
Thank you for sharing!❤
I LOVE your videos so much. Thank you for sharing such an amazing, comfy day.
It looks like you’re eating optimally for your needs, that’s always tough. Way to go!
Everything looked so yummy! I bet that salad is amazing. I hope Chris and Connor loved the granola bars
such a treat when sharla posts (: love your videos, they are so comforting. thank you for sharing ❤
Loved this !
Thank you for being vulnerable with us! I've developed chronic indigestion issues and having to change my diet from when I was growing up was really sad, I completely get the frustration
Love it, food is always super comforting content for some reason, and it reminds me of your older videos!
The quality of this vlog was so nice - the different camera angles, the sound, the text overlays, etc.!! Also those granola bars looked so easy to make. I might need to try making those sometime!
I love your cozy content ❤
Love these "What I Eat in a Day"! So cozy!!!
I LOVE watching WIEIADs! Would love to see more if you’re keen! It was nice seeing you making the bars for the boys. I’m excited to try that recipe!
I went through a huge korean pancake/jeon phase. They are super easy to make! And you can literally add anyyyyyything! You can make them extra crispy with some more oil or you can go a healthier route with less oil in a nonstick and have them nice and soft. It's a satisfying way to eat a ton of veggies and leftovers.
yes more please!!! i lovelovelove your food videos
Loved the tea cup.
I love this type of content... its super satisfying and lets me live vicariously through others' daily lives.
My thyroid doctor told me to avoid grains and keep under 100 grams of carbs to reduce inflammation which cause water retention. A little Rice doesn't seem to bother me as long as I keep it to less than about a cup just a few times a week and its organic. I can no do gluten, dairy or gmo soy. I do know when I follow their advice I keep my weight down and the retention and blood pressure. Also supplementing with T1 supplement has helped. The thyroid does more than just t3/t4 and if you are not converting it helps. I have lived with thyroid issues all my life.
T1, interesting! I’ll look into that, thanks for sharing 🫶🏻
Thank you so much for the info on foods and your thyroid. My brother has a lot of thyroid problems and I never thought about the foods that can make it better or worse! Thank you so much I'm going to dive into this more to help him out. Prayers for you on your daily battle with your remaining thyroid. 🙏
That vanilla sugar is usually used in baking. I LOVE how it smells. Good stuff.
Sometimes I just stop and smell it when I walk by😂 I need my whole house to smell like this
@@sharlainjapan A coworker of mine had a bunch of them and handed them out.
I might or might have not put them on my desk for a few weeks.
Downside tho - I always wanted some sweets because of it.
Love watching your videos! They're so relaxing and chill. I usually play them in the background when I'm working from home. That salad at the end looked amazing! 😍
This was so relaxing and cozy to watch - especially with a cup of tea! ❤Really love your videos, especially after a stressful day at work
Love when you post & that’s so cute that u both made snacks for the boys to eat
your in the sun chris and connor in the rain awwww and they loving the bars you made
We love you, Sharla!
Yes please more of these videos❤🌸
thanks for the recommendation for that yorkshire bedtime tea.. found it on amazon.. cant wait to try it out
Yay!!! Japan & food. What a great combo ^-^
chris always loved the energy bar so i am glad you are tasked to make them this time!!! super sweet
I love reading and watching videos about how people in other countries live. So interesting💛
I agree ☺
It's interesting how Japan and Korea's past has been extremely adversarial, but they share so much of their culinary things today.
I just made your breakfast and it was super delicious 😋🤤!! Thank you for showing it to us.
I CANT WAIT TO SEE your future summer japan videos!! 13:02 OMG i thought you cut your hair for a moment there but you look adorable!!!
I love your chill vlogs so so much. That picnic looked completely delicious. Your little messages of encouragement on the energy bars 🥺 So sweet to do that for the guys.
I'm happy to see you doing well and eating well. It really sucks having to restrict your favourite foods... I'm prediabetes with a family history of diabetes/heart disease and I've been trying to eat healthier, but it's a constant battle. We can do this!
Good morning Sharla it is always a good day when I see an upload from you
So nice 😊 I’d love more cooking videos tbh. Also a tour of your new place if possible. Tnx so much for a wonderful channel, I’ve been very inspired by your skincare routine ❤
Loved this video! ❤
You should do more videos like this I love it! ❤
Ha! I saw your energy bar in the first day of the cyclothon! very nice of you and Ushka to make 100 of them! they look absolutely delicious, thank you for sharing the recipe! And yeah, trying to have new diet because of illness is such a struggle and the meals come everyday so it is so much on our mind. But you are doing great!!
I had chijimi at a korean restaurant years ago and it was delicious, now I'm craving it. Thanks for the recipe!
And I love any kind of food related videos.
I love watching your chill daily routine videos and I would love to see more. That's what originally attracted me to your channel.
Yes they did and grant too.
I’m finally coming to Japan this June! I’m so excited. I’ve been watching so many of your videos to prepare :)
As a fun tip. I've found toasting the oats in the oven before adding them to the mixture for bars like those adds so much more flavor.
The picnic is so cute! My friend and I had a chance to grab sandwiches and coffee and spread a blanket out at a park yesterday. Being so busy it can be hard to find time to do something so simple but it really makes you feel better just chillin outside.
Thank you for sharing this video and I hope you continue being the amazing person that you are.
Sooooo courageous of you to share such personal information 😢😢❤ its great to hear that you are able to manage it and still get to continue doing what you love. Best wishes, pulling for your evolution to Sharizard❤
I always love food videos like this and some of your past suggestions have been spot on. Recently got the Yorkshire Tea & Toast, as well as the Malted Biscuit teas you'd mentioned before and they are great! :)
I love this!!
Ah! I love this video so much! Really appreciate the transparency about your morning routine because that’s one of the biggest things I’ve struggled to rework with post-op hypothyroidism.
(On the upside, due to the recommendation of loads of water with T4, I’m WAY better hydrated starting my day.)
that salad looks so yum 🤤
Hey, Sharla
You were asking what can you make with the banana flower
Well you can eat the whole thing but what I do is make cream shark soup and with The banana flower peel the leaves off and slice some very thin. Also, you can put in the light brown stems inside your soup too.
Love vlog like these
This was fun, yes do more 🥰
I want that bedtime tea! Looks yummy!
Great video sharla! I really need to establish a more consistent routine of tea before bed (caffeine free of course) because when i do it, it's always is a nice way to finish the night. Thabk you for the reminder! 😁
you are a beautiful human being the world over wants to be you. i remember sending your toast video to all my friends as a kid you've come a long way, never stop your dreams and never stop loving yourself.
loved it! more pls
