I swear, you have a knack with uploading videos on topics and activities that I'm already planning for. Just last week I had come to the conclusion that I'd be traveling from Oregon as far south as LA to do some hiking as a vacation this summer. Bookmarking this video! Thanks!
Awesome video. There is sooo much to do in LA and I think everyone always forgets about the trails! The Griffith observatory is so cool. I like visiting LA and I am so glad I live in a place with so many beautiful hiking trails. Thanks for sharing! Cool channel! Following!
Secretly LOVED when I saw you and your wife had babies a month after me. I was hoping you'd put out some baby-friendly hiking trail recs/reviews eventually lol. Hoping you do this for San Gabes, San Gorgonio, etc :)
I like the Runyon canyon and Griffith hikes, once I figure out where to park. Thanks for making this video, as it looks like you needed to hike to these places to get footage.
Start at Silverlake reservoir and take Cove St. to Baxter St. to Elysian Park and back down Park Row Dr. and Cassandra St.....trust me, you'll feel it! Rewards = Best city views!
Alot of staircases in the Silver Lake neighborhood. But SL of L.A. is so congested these days. When they first started building tract homes in the area, they didn't plan for as many cars as there are these days. Now, just driving down some streets with parked cars on both sides can be a challenge. I was born and raised there.
The hike to the Hollywood sign is really easy! Have you checked out Top of the World in Laguna Beach?? It has amazing views of the ocean and mountains and there is a playground for kids
I’m a mew subscriber and found you through your Sacramento video!! It would be awesome to do an updated things to do in Sacramento!! Your list helped so much! Been here 25 years and didn’t know some of the things you suggested!!
I think all those that you just mentioned in this episode would be a great idea for people in the LA area if the museums or attractions are still in shut-down mode, Griffith Park and the train that Navin R Johnson rode on in The Jerk is a must see for me. Probably would be worth exploring Franklin Canyon & Topanga Canyon if a person has more time.
It's not around LA, but have you ever gone on the American River Bike Trail around Sacramento? One of our transplants from NJ to CA that lives near there recommended it. It might be worth a trip in the future.
Josh, when I heard you say that Griffith Park has hundreds of miles of trails I was going to correct you. Technically, it's 70 miles on their park information pamphlet, but those are wide service road and horse trails. Lately I've been discovering many unmarked side trails thanks to alltrails and google maps(look for narrow trail lines). Most of these trails are very narrow, steep and challenging, but some of them follow spectacular ridgelines. So, if you include these then the total trail mileage would easily be close to 200 miles.
@@californiathroughmylens yep completely:-(. They had a big sign on the gate and everything. Took advantage of the drive anyway and did the Glendale Peak trail to Mount Hollywood and then the Observatory. Definitely worth it and hopefully they will open this one back soon.
I’ve heard that there are a couple of clothes optional hiking trails up in the mountains, but that sounds uncomfortable to me, I mean what if you stumble and fall into a patch of poison oak/ ivy or walk into a swarm of biting gnats, I’ll def stick to wearing clothes when I hike, but to each their own.
Have you heard about the judge that said by october every skidrow homeless should be offered a house? What do you think about it? Do you think it will actually happen?

Great video! I was disappointed but also relieved that my favorite and not very well known L.A. hiking site was not on your list.
Thanks for the comment! Yea, I just touched on most of the well known ones on this video

I hiked around Griffith Park after visiting the Observatory there in 2018. Some pretty steep hills but great exercise and views.
Superb recommendations Josh! I’ve done all of them. And compare to some of the hikes you’ve recommended in other videos; these are piece of cake 😂
I'm going to go check this place out today Josh. I've been stalking you ! Thanx for the vids ! Bike, drone and blunt it up there today !

Hollywood sign is a classic! Must do if your in LA! Great stuff
I agree, I really like that hike. So fun to see the sign from all those angles!

Love the suggestions, I was just in California last week and visited a place called Tuna Canyon. Amazing views
Thanks for the tip, I will have to look that up as I have never been there
Love it. Thanks Josh
The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve wetlands although it is a bit noisy from the traffic nearby.
Oops sorry, not quite Los Angeles.
I like taking the family to the Brand Library hike.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will have to check that out!

Gonna try weekday on Eaton canyon
Be sure to schedule your trip at Ecnca.org . You have to make an appointment, otherwise, they won’t let you in.
@@villanuevafamily4 perfect. Thanks 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing the appointment link, I didn't know that!
@@californiathroughmylens you’re welcome!
What other hikes are there in California that lead to waterfalls but that are not too hard to hike.
Thanks.
Glendale Peak Trail is also underrated!
Gad, I want to get back and do some of these!
This is great, thanks for sharing! You should do a vid like this for San Diego county, if you haven’t already :-)
Thanks for the idea!I will have to work on it!
And the bay area! Specifically the east bay, like livermore dublin and oakland!
Malibu Creek State Park is very family friendly…
All of Malibu is amazing

Left out Vetaran’s Park in Sylmar, Ca - San Fernando Valley. Intense cement & dirt trails. Check it out. Please.
Thanks for the tip, I will have to check it out!
Great view of the valley. The higher you go on a clear day. You can see the Pacific Ocean.
Hi Josh. Did you join the Josh vs Josh noodle fight????
Drove an hour today to get to Eaton Canyon only to find it’s closed due to Covid 19? What a bummer and people beware.
Oh wow, that is a bummer! Completely closed?

Hey! Have you hiked to Wapama Falls on Hetch Hetchy at Yosemite?
I have, but I don't have a video of it on the channel. It's a cool hike though

So Cool 👍🇨🇦
Does that mean that there are “adult” hikes in LA?
haha! I just tried to introduce some hikes that wouldn't be too difficult if going with a family.

Are there any other Family Favorite trail hikes in the State of California that you recommend?
Eaton Canyon: don’t bother - it’s clogged with people, dogs, dog poop, families with strollers, dirty diapers left by the waterfall - euwwwee!
PARKER MESA OVERLOOK is the best hiking trail in LA... best view too.... Google it
Never done that one, will have to check it out!
