Can’t fault them for reusing the body since that was what those original Joes did too. Never thought of Grunt as a troop builder, as he’s a named character. But the quality control has gotten really bad lately, and it looks like he fell victim to that, too. Urg… this line! 😖
personally I love they used the same body as Stalker and Snake Eyes seeing how thats how the original 13 were as mostly reuse so this Grunt fits in perfectly and I hope they go back and put Breaker this buck and hope Zap and Shortfuze use it when they come out :)

Honestly... I'm a pretty old guy that played with and collects Joes from the early 80's. I'm perfectly fine with reusing some of the same bodies for old school Joes because they did that in the 80's. All of them were one of just a few body types and reused heads too. I like the throwback. Btw... awesome that you called it a magazine and not a "clip"! I'm a shooter too and that makes me nuts.
I don't have a single problem with the body reuse for this character, since that's how the original line was. Don't understand why they would put his name on his gear when he's being pushed as a troop builder.

I had the whole team in 82 so I knew what to expect.
the re-use is the uniform, and I like it.
looking at it, I m quite content.
these body parts never came back again past 82.
I missed that, as it took away the uniform and it does nt look as realistic to me.
Grunt looked rough, his face was no Ken type.
he s the guy who had it smashed and has no looks to lose.
so the sculpt seems somewhat fitting.

that kind of makes his signature by now.

Wow! I really respect the honesty! Lots of content creators tend to gloss over the QC issues but I know them and I'm happy when they are pointed out! Nice review ✨
The thing on his chest is his old school Nintendo 3ds. I mean he's a grunt. He has a lot of time sitting around waiting for shit to happen. I just have to ask, what is the sudden outrage in the toy collecting community lately about "They used the same body mold!!! Again! How dare they!!!" Really? This is only now becoming a thing? Of course they reuse certain "uniform" molds. The original GI Joe line was made for reuse of body tooling. As was the 1980's 31/2" line. MotU was all about recycling tooling in ever more combinations. Heck The Valaverse figs market the ability to play mix and match with their body and tooling types as an actual feature. Repaints are bad. Reusing parts, so long as they are used well and appropriate for character are fine. Grunt seems to have a good amount of new rubber gear tooled up on him. I'll give you the head sculpt is ugly. Not quite Falcon Ugly, but not pretty.
"They wanted to make an army builder, but put his f!@#ing name on it." That line had me laughing, I had to hear it 3 times.
I didn't realise the JoePro was still being added to the figures. I don't have Lt. Falcon so wouldn't have known. Shipwreck, Barbecue, Snow Job and Bazooka don't have one out of my collection so I assumed it had been phased out.

I never had a Grunt figure. Honestly, I have never seen the character in my entire life and I am 47! I never read a comic that he was in or saw him in a cartoon that I can remember. I don't even want him but if I see him in a store, I may pick him up. I passed up Falcon so far and he fits that criteria. I would probably take a marker to that name plate and leave on the Steel Brigade head

Back in the eighties when G.I. Joe was only in its infancy, it was ok to reuse the body sculps many times. The price was much lower back then, so that justified it as well. I think his point is for $25 retail per figure, they could've added something to differentiate the body sculpt, and I agree
Thought about an Army Build, but I am also making a 'Sgt. Nick Fury Jr. 'New Howling Commando's'! Grunt got pushed aside as the Marine in G.I. Joe by Gung Ho. As a result, since I'm building a second Military Team, I will switch my Grunt to the Fury team.
I still don't have a Fury son substitute, but I am putting together a pretty good team so far;

That's what I have so far. More to be added later. I get characters I don't have a connection to they can end up on the other team.
What’s with fans upset about him not being a good army builder? Grunt has always been an individual character. Certain vintage collectors may treat him like that due to the vintage figure’s plain look, but in universe he’s a individual guy. I get that collectors like the idea of doubling the use of Grunt as an easy toon green-shirt, but he’s canonically not that in the end of the day.
I don’t mind the parts reuse, as it harkens back to his vintage figure reusing parts. The wave the vintage figure was in reused a lot of parts with each other. Also he’s supposed to look like a basic looking soldier, so it’s fitting.
Yeah, his head looks a bit weird. I’m guessing the designers were aiming to make him look fairly young as he canonically entered the Joe team in his late teens to early 20s, but it’s jackily done.

He's okay. I expect Hasbro will reuse this body a ton more as the line continues. I think this figure would have been more of a win if they included the Jump jetpack. It would have paired well with the Steel Brigade head and cartoon rifle. The fact that they put his name on his vest is kind of silly if he's meant to be an army builder though. I'll still pick one up.

Makes me wonder if there won’t be future jet packs sold separately too? The helmet not fitting more Joes makes me question this theory tho too.
I must say the only bad QC I've had in the last few waves were with the imports. The ones coming from pulse have zero issues.
Since it was one of the first 13, I think it should be even more bland. It has too much gear on the body which could have been made part of a backpack - the original came with its own backpack. It also seems too young of a face compared to the one that came with the original. My issue with the text on the front is not with the name but with the flag. Canadian version of the Grunt figure came a file card that his birthplace was in Canada so it would have been nice to replace the stars and stripes with the Maple Leaf.

What a shame, they had such a great opportunity to make something we would buy multiples of and they swung and miss. I was initially pumped for this as I had the original as a kid but now I will most likely pass. Hopefully the Steel Corps pack can save the day. Great review

I don't mind the reuse. Head Sculpt does look worse than expected. Looks like the jaw is too big too. I LOVE the cartoon rifle too. Was my favorite as a kid. I 3D printed a few for Duke and others and tried to paint it like the cartoon color. Turned out ok. Same with the Cobra troop cartoon guns. Loved those and printed some too. Now the Valkyries come with them. So happy. Their belts float the crap all over the place too though. Might have to glue it down in a spot.
I won't army build Grunt. So the name tag won't bother me. If I was I would probably just paint over it with green. Looks like I may need another custom head though. I still haven't bought Falcon because he is just too damn ugly and even IF I got a custom head, I don't want to give my money for that creature. I can't believe not a single person at Hasbro or the Joe team saw that face and said wait a minute.

Have to disagree on using the Stalker as a con. For ARAH collectors the same body is the way to go for the 13 well the Joes. Great video as always!

I hated this figure from the promo pictures. Definitely a bargain bin pickup for Cobra target practice. Or when we one day get a medic joe, this guy can play the victim

Been watching your videos for awhile. I always look forward to a good time when I see one appear in my sub. I tend to lose myself in all the random bashed characters in the background.
You raised good points about Grunt. I might not feel as strongly about the faults, but nothing you say is wrong. I felt compelled to get Grunt as part of my attempt to get the original 13 in Classified form. Hey, will they reuse this body for classic Scarlett?

Ah....I see where you're coming from on the head sculpt. It's got that, 1960s original GIJOE head-style. Same with Falcon. I agree they were done by the same sculptor who obviously has a soft spot for the original "Action Man" GIJOE figures. I also agree it was a bad move to put the name of the figure on them, especially if they were CLEARLY going for making him an army builder.
Where I will disagree on is the re-use of the full buck. I don't deny that I am 100% there for it in THIS particular case, because of what it represents. In the 1982 G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero releases, the Joe figures had the same basic outfit, just re-painted. Hasbro is doing the same thing here. All the Original 13 figures that will be released going forward in Classified, will be using that same buck. Obviously, they already released a Scarlet and Breaker. But we know a "retro" version is coming. So, it might be that we get a "Retro" Breaker who uses....that same buck. Sure, it saves them money too, which is why they did it back in 1982 as well. I appreciate that at the very least, it's consistent. The other tid-bit throw back that gets overlooked on this figure is the return of the "H" belt from the 1982 original figure design. Obviously meant to symbolize "Hasbro."
All that aside, those QC issues are pain in the ass. I want to know just HOW much money they're actually saving moving to shittastic plastics. From a business perspective, I have to look at the fact that when Classified first released, they had good strong plastics, a lot of detailed paint apps, and smooth articulation and Hasbro considered that profitable at 5 dollar LESS than it sells today with fucktastic plastics, massive QC issues, less paint apps, and now fuggly head sculpts.
I don’t think he’s supposed to be an army builder because they came/are coming out with 2 later and as for the reuse I don’t mind it because the overlays make it unique enough

Great honest review man and you touched on some good points as dissapointing as it is,only reason I'm getting him is cause Grunt was my 1st GI Joe when I was a kid and yeah gotta agree that gun brings back the Nostalgia for me as well. Keep up the good work with bringing us these reviews👏🍻

Grunt is not meant to be a supermodel. I'm fine with his face, head just a little too big. Nothing like the hideous Falcon. I dont mind the body use just like they did in the vintage line. Grunt was very basic and the Classified line actually made him better than he was. Great weapons as you pointed out. The helmet and steel brigade helmet are both nice. I do agree putting his name on his vest was a terrible decision. I'm army building them as I needed soliders for the Joe team. So will have to get rid of the name. By the way I bought ten of them. On one of them i had some trouble putting the steel brigade helmet like you did with this one.

Fun review & I love crabby reviews. That said, the OG 13 Joes had an incredible amount of parts reuse, so since the retro Snake Eyes & Stalker had identical bodies in the original line, in order to be faithful to the original Grunt, the parts reuse makes total sense. Obviously to each their own, but I would have personally been pissed if they didn't reuse the Stalker/Snake Eyes body. That cell phone thing & the weird knife storage, totally agree with you. Just bad & lazy design.
Oh this really cheers me up. Far better than those really earnest channels. Someone said this guy does to Joe what Jobby does to Transformers. So true, brilliant.

Everyone is allowed their opinion. I don't expect you to like him just because I do. Though I do respectfully disagree with your critique about the reuse on this guy. I get where you're coming from, but I chock that up to it being an army uniform. There really isn't much they could've done for a first year Joe sculpt-wise that would make him visually different enough to justify tooling (that shits expensive) I do kinda agree about the headsculpt. It isn't as big a problem for me, but at least he gets the Steel brigade helmet option. Shame about the neck peg. I do hope it's a rare defect that snuck in under the QC radar. The recent releases, as least for me, seemed to be improving
Always good to be honest and I respect everyone's opinions and I do agree with you, this figure is just as bad as Falcon. I never had Grunt when I was a kid, so I have no nostalgia for him, but I did have Falcon and I really wanted him in the classified series, but I ain't gonna spend my hard earned money on a shitty looking figure.
I could see now that Grunt's face sculpt looks a little derpy. I never really saw it on my figure that I got. Maybe because I keep his helmet on lol. Excellent review dude Yo Joe!

Grunt was my very first Joe figure as a kid. Got me started on my collection. Still have the original to this day. Had to get the new one. Kind of a boring figure but I like it.

I totally get what you're saying about this figure, but I think you got a shitty one man, unfortunately. I don't have any of the QC issues you have, but i do totally agree that he has a derp head, and yes, it is ridiculous to have a name tag onnan army builder. The helmet head fits good on mine, and the cell phone can be easily removed. I agree with you that the old school Joe rifle is the biggest selling point for this guy.
QC aside I see what I expected. Maybe not the bad helmet fit. I always thought the green shirts and Grunt were simple, really simple. I’m good with getting a few, slapping Steel Corps head on it, and having a few green shirts to get slaughtered by Cobras… I’m gonna wait for them to go on sale as I suspect they will. $15 or cheaper army builders are a good. I love that goofy rifle. I’m gonna need more too. The Steel Corps pack comes with one too I think. I want the original 13 in Classified form. I didn’t own them as a kid. I got into Joe figure collecting when second class was released. It will be a nice novelty to me. That bicep swivel is annoying on the Stalker body. Only need a new sculpt for Flash and Grand Slam. Then need Hawk, Zap, Short Fuse, and Steeler. I guess a green version of Rock and Roll too. We know Retro Scarlet and Clutch are coming.

Hey I just saw another review and his head sculpt was a lot better. It looks more normal size and not sculpted by the Falcon sculptor 🤪

I thought from the get go it’s a very cartoonish looking face (something about the eyes ) classifieds are more realistic head sculpts ….looks like something you would get from super 7……I haven’t got mine yet but I heard his little computer ,tablet thing on his chest flops all over the place and falls down ….like I said too cartoonish for my liking in a classified fig

Just got mine in the mail ….if he doesn’t have the helmet 🪖 on he looks weird and that Samsung galaxy strapped to his chest is all floppy n loose and the M-16 is all gummy …..all around …..the whole neck on mine is loose in spins back n forth and he’s got a little gape on his arm …….he’s definitely one of them figs a lot of people are having QC issues with …..he just seems like a cheaply,quickly slapped together figure …….I don’t hate em but they definitely didn’t go the extra mile with him at all

So I just threw the helmet on cause his head sucks!!! Come back to that! Now I can keep grunt in the fucking Steele brigade so he’s not a total waste!! Back to his not quite Falcon head! It has stalker beret hawk goggles and “camo paint” on a TF recondo body hiding in a gridiron ghuillie suit so now I have a “Grunt” sniper and then I have a Joe actually named grunt. FYI his helmet actually fits n looks decent on tunnel rat cause you would think the one thing a tunnel rat would want is protection for his coconut

@@yojoejerk sounds like an excuse 4 series all reuse. Condor, blowback, swarm, Kerak is on Sgt slaughter body. Duster and trigger have the same legs the female wave all six figures are on the same body. Vala figures cost 32$ and he still reuses every figure over and over. And your excuse is he’s not a billion dollar company? Reuse is reuse I don’t give a fuck who does it neca does it. Mcfarlane does it, Mattel does it. But people usually RUclipsrs only talk shit about when Hasbro does it. I wonder why?
