    Great video Sam! I just want to clarify one thing tho, I just think it's important for people to know. So the sidechain on the compressor. You said using them will make it so the compressor doesn't affect those parts of the signal. Well, that's not correct. What a sidechain on a compressor does is that it tells the compressor not to react to those frequencies. Those frequencies are still absolutely being compressed when the compressor is working, it's just that those frequencies are not going to trigger the compressor. It filters those frequencies out of the detector circuit basically. The compressor is a broadband compressor, it would need to be multi-band in order to not compress certain areas of the frequency spectrum. Anyway, I just thought it was important to mention that. I watched a few videos on this plugin and yours is by far the best! Thanks for the detailed review. 🙂

      Correct I agree. Also this is definitely by far the most detailed video. Hell slate digital didn't even dive this deep lol 😆

      @@SamLoose Honestly man, I kind of feel like every video you put out is gold lol. I'm a Logic user as well and have learned a CRAP TON from you about it. Your reviews are detailed and you turn over every stone. Not just touch on a few parts. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I'm a professional mixing engineer and I was reaching the point where most of the videos I was watching were just regurgitated BS, bad information, or stuff I already knew. Then I found Sam Losse Audio Engineer!! 🤣... Seriously tho. I finally feel like I am learning things again and I have seen through watching a bunch of your content that I can trust you. You are one of the FEW YT creators I have seen that actually knew the difference between a stem and multi-track (audio file). It's those little things that matter tho. Just wanted to let you know that.
      That being said, I would LOVE to see you do a review of Tone Projects Kelvin or maybe SIR Standard Clip. SC is great because it sounds so good and is super cheap.

    Great demo Sam. I've never used version one, however FGX2 has very useful controls and features. It can be clean or not, smooth or punchy. And it can do maximizing very well. The 4 modes are useful, unique enough so they're not redundant. Meters! I'm a meters guy, and these are good. The Vu metering specifically are helpful with the target LUFS. M/S controls and the compressor as well. Slate covered it all.
    Note to any that may use this live though. It adds around 85 ms latency, noticed while I was doing so on Studio One 6.5.
    Otherwise this is a great maximize limiter.

    Excellent update and detailed review!
    Kinda' irritated because I purchased a cool new mastering plugin today
    while the FG-X 2 update, unknowingly to me,
    has been sitting in my account for 2 weeks.
    Slate update notifications must be going to my spam or something. LOL

    Fgx 2 is definitely better than version 1 many times 😂. However I still feel if the compressor ratio set more than 1.5, it seems sounds over compressed.

    • @SamLoose

      I love the compressor in the original FG-X. I think it’s just a familiarity thing, but I feel like I prefer it to v2, although there may well be very little difference.

    Great tutorial Sam! Just one thing, I noticed you didn't select a streaming preset - is that important to meet the - 14 lufs target?

    • @SamLoose
      @SamLoose  Год назад +3

      Thanks for watching! I was focusing more on the features that directly affect the sound, and brushed over the metering a little. I think -14dB LUFS is perhaps seen as a little conservative now; when you get towards -12 or -10 it’s never really too detrimental to my ear, when done right. I’d love to get a definitive answer on this and test it though, so maybe that calls for another video!

      @@SamLoose I think the issue with a LUFS target is not so much the sound of it as it is the fact that we prefer that the streaming services accept our sound files as is, without any further processing on their side. (If a sound file violates their LUFS target, they will make it adhere to it).
