    You are amazing! I love the colors that you used in this video. I've learned
    from your videos. Watching you coloring in this video actually relaxed me so much that I got sleepy. No speeded up coloring, no loud shrill voice or loud music. I used to draw and paint freehand when I was much younger, but work, having a child etc. got me very busy. Plan to retire in about six months. :-) A coworker got me interested in the adult coloring books that are all the rage now. I bought some prismacolor pencils and graphite pencils, but I'm stuck in a small town and the choices here are very limited. I ordered some polychrome faber castelle pencils and coloring books from Amazon but have to wait quite a while for them to be delivered. You have inspired me. Thank you!

    Thank you, Peta, for taking the time to do such detailed tutorials and explain to us what you are doing along the way. I must admit I thought coloring would be a wonderful stress-free way to relax at the end of a work day, but I'm finding it a bit difficult for me as I'm not artistic by nature. But practice makes progress and I'm learning how to let the colors speak to me, so to say. You're helping me with that bit, so thank you again.

    Thank you for making such an informative and wonderful video, I've definitely learnt a lot in how to achieve this blended cool effect with my colouring pencils. I've used coloured pencils for as long as I can remember, but I've never really known how to use them well and always ended up pressing them a bit too hard which often left white grains on my pages. And my nibs always broke off too so this has definitely been helpuf and I can't wait to use it in my unfinished Mushroom Vol 1 colouring book by Coco wyo.

    Thanks for the video! I love seeing your stuff (I'm in a bunch of the aussie colouring fb groups, which is how I found you). The thing I like about the "shiny" technique is that from a distance it looks *almost* water colour. Just the way it gently blends out does it I think.

    Could you do a video tutorial sometime in the future on how to color the backgrounds on a page in the Enchanted Forest or Secret Garden or Lost Ocean coloring book? Like that one two-page spread you did in Enchanted Forest with the trees and your background was yellow and pink and another color, it just all looked so seamless, and I have no clue how to go about getting the same effect. Thanks. I love your videos!!

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  9 лет назад +9

      +Danielle Jones Hi Danielle. The main ingediant for the background was a ton of patience. lol. I did that by choosing five colours and over lapping them as I coloured in exactly the same way as I do the leaves but on a bigger scale. I will add a specific background video using this technique for one of my future videos.

      I have a question I just bought a 72 prisma set of colored pencils and a blending pencil I was just wondering if you have used prisma pencils and if so how well did they work for u and did it blend well with the blending pencil

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  9 лет назад +1

      +holly b No problems... I own a set of Prismacolor pencils. You can achieve the same effects with them as with the Poly's I use. prisma's a a bit softer, though, so the point of the pencil wears down faster. Also you have to be careful sharpening them as the soft cores break easily. I haven't used the Prisma blender pencil personally. I've read that they are good but that the Derwent blender is preferable. I think which ever pencil you choose to use-> you will get to know their 'personality' and become adept at using them.

    I just love the Derwent inktense pencils and ink blocks! I've also been using the Farber Castell Gelatos to paint with, as well. I am very new to the watercolor world. And of course, I love my colored pencils. I have a large tin set of Prismacolor pencils, a 24 set of Farber Castell polychromos, and today just received a 72 set of Koh-I-Noor polycolor colored pencils. I am waiting for the set of Prismacolor verythin pencils. I am saving up for the largest set of Prismacolor pencils. By then, I probably will have colored the ones I have now to the stubs!! I like your pencil holders for when the pencils shrink from usage! My cream colored pencil is getting down there so I ordered some holders from Amazon, along with 2 new cream pencils. LOL. I do use markers sometimes - only if the pages are one-sided and can be removed from the book, like Creative Haven books, which I love! I want Korean coloring books, too! I am getting a little obsessed here! LOL. The markers I use are Prismacolor and sharpies and bics. I'm saving up for the largest set of Prismacolor markers, too!! I will go bankrupt from coloring! LOL. You color beautifully!

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  7 лет назад +1

      You've got some excellent colouring supplies there. :) I'm jealous of the inktense blocks. :) It's the one thing I'd like to add to my collection. Still saving for them. I use Inktense pencils alot and lately I've been wanting to 'watercolour' directly from the cores with them. the blocks would be so much better for this. Korean colouring books are GORGEOUS! I don't have any yet but they are on my wish list. My preferred markers (alcohol based ones) are Copic markers. Ridiculously expensive but oh so good. :)

      I'm afraid not for this page. my idea here was to give the colourist a peek at how to achieve this sort of effect and then let them go to see what they came up with on their own . Sort of giving a few tools to colour with. I have a full 5 part tutorial on how to colour the 'Duck Pond' picture in this book here on RUclips if that helps.

    Peta, great work! Do you happen to use the same red and orange you used on the very last leaf (around 18:20) for the other leaves that appear to be the same colors? Curious because some of them look like a yellow with orange in the middle? I know you used cream with orange on the one leaves. Sorry! Hope this made sense at all!

    I love your techniques-- you do gorgeous work. I'm now venturing into a world of color and different mediums of pencils and alcohol markers (so far) and it is all very foreign to me. As you can see from my profile picture, I'm only familiar with soft pastels --- animal tones and fur. (a dog portrait I did many yrs ago) I especially love your Dr Who / Steampunk Kitty. The mixed media came out beautifully. B ut everything you do is brilliant. I look forward to seeing more videos like this as colored pencils are an entirely different ball of wax (pun intended) versus pastel work. I need all the help I can get. Thank you for posting these videos.

    Absolutely love your color pages! Just wondering if the Polychromos are as creamy/crayon like as the Prisma Premier? I have 2 sets of the Prismas (one for work and one for home). I color on my lunch hour. You make me want the Polychromos as well!

    • @karenm8952
      @karenm8952 8 лет назад

      +gooddollie What I understand is that the Prisma Premier are the creamiest of all the pencils. Plus, the Prisma are wax-based and the Polychromos are oil-based, so they blend and layer differently.

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Michelle. You can colour in your books with any art media out there depending on how well the paper can handle it. Colourists use paints: watercolour, acrylic and gouache. You can use watercolour crayons such as Caran'd'ache Neocolor II's and watercolour pencils or my favourite: Derwent Inktense pencils. You can use markers although you should test whether they will damage the back of the paper first. It's not just about coloured pencils. You can also use multiple types of media to colour the same picture... examples of this are shown by colourists here on RUclips.

    Wonderful job, as always! I'm wondering if you use some sort of spray to seal everything down to prevent it from smudging over time? I know there are some "workable" ones as well as non-workable. I have thought of trying one, but don't want to ruin any of my books. Thanks!

    • @NoDontLikeIt

      No, Ashley, I don't think she does just when using colored pencils. But she DOES use a workable fixative when she uses pastels for the background. Hope that helps!

      +Chamie Huet polychromas pencils are easily available from art & craft shops or if you don't have one nearby on Ebay or Amazon. They are really expensive though- $3.35 at my local shop or $320 for the full set of 120. Derwent artist pencils are also readily available though theu would be different from the vid host's 30 year old set. I saw a bow of Derwnt "academy" pencils for $20 in target.

    I suppose it is practice doing this will make one better at it,It seems to be about weight distribution that can give you better results.

    Love Love your work. what makes you decide like in this video to use Derwent & Polychromos. Is it because of the right shade?

    I am not able to do much, but I do color a lot, and my husband bought me a Thomas KInkade coloring book and I have to say that it has me going in circles. I do not even know where to start when you get some extra time I was wondering if you could take a look at it and no rush, but I would love to know what you think and if there is any hope for me. I hate to hurt his feelings,after all he did try and took him a long time to find something he thought was different

    You talk so softly I cant hear you very well. Could you possibly list the brands of pencils you use. It would be so helpful.

      +Pamela Heck I am pretty sure she said the pencils used in this video were all Faber Castell Polychromos.

Thank you!
