Colouring Tutorial : 3 Ways to Colour Leaves in Magical Jungle

- Here's a colouring tutorial, just in time for my new colouring book, Magical Jungle, which is on the cusp of being released, so I thought it might be helpful to share this little tutorial with you demonstrating 3 different ways to colour leaves, because let's face it, the jungle is pretty leafy! I've gone for a traditional green colour palette for my foliage, but remember this Jungle is MAGICAL - so grab all your tropical brights and make those leaves any colour that takes your fancy! And once you are finished your masterpiece, don't forget to upload it to my spangly new Colouring Gallery (www.johannabasford.com/colouring-gallery) and share your work with the world :)
Materials I've used are:
* Staedtler Ergosoft pencils
* Staedtler Aquarelle Karat Watercolour Pencils
* Staedtler Triplus Fineliners
* Blender Pencil
* Burnisher Pencil
* Fine Paintbrush

I was going to be out of town when my Magical Jungle book was supposed to be delivered so I actually changed the shipping address on my order to receive it where I was. So excited to receive my new copy -- also got one for my mom (age 86) and my mother-in-law (age 93)---we are all just in love with your first 3 books. I also just received the new 2017 color-a-page-each-day calendar; they will help both moms each day as they are struggling with their memories. I also had to buy a SECOND copy of Enchanted Forest for my mom because she finished it so fast. I'm trying to get her to slow down and maybe try autumn colors or fantasy colors rather than just green markers!!! Thank you for your magical talent in these enchanting books!!!

How strange is it that you made this video 7 years ago, I’ve been coloring in this book for about 3 years now, and today of all days is the day I decide to look up “Johanna Basford Magical Jungle” and you are actually coloring the exact same page I’ve been coloring all day 😂

I've chosen to treat myself to my first coloring book, which is your Enchanted Forest. I struggled to choose, too!! An additional tip for your viewers to try: the third technique with gel pens, as well especially before gel dries -- again, a smidge of water only! Can be smudged, too, which can be done with gel crayons/sticks, both can be applied and then manipulated or taken from the tip of the product and painted directly onto the paper, for a change of pace!

I'll apologize in advance if this is a basic question that I should know the answer to already. Ive only just discovered the world of adult coloring & all books exists & I'm already deeply in love! Icant believe Ive been totally unaware of all this, its like having an extra Xmas in the Summer!! I was wondering if you use the same coloring supplies though out a picture your doing or use various supplies & techniques within the one picture? Im sure this probably varies from artist to artist but I'm curious as to what your agenda is when you first begin a new page. Do you decide what colors you will use before you start or as you go along?? Thank you for inspiring me, The Magic Jungle is my first of hopefully many adult coloring books! To see some of the techniques & colors people have completed these pics through out your book leaves me nothing short of speechless...

I don't have a blender pencil but with my drawing supplies I have paper blending sticks. Would that work?

I'm amazed Johanna doesn't plug Derwent products seeing as they're British (pencils not the pens as we don't make pens here anymore).
She has a deal with Staedtler

I think your fantastic so, you can imagine my disappointment when l received my Magical Jungle book with Staedtler pencils set from Amazon . The pencils provided are not the same quality that you use in your videos. They are a quite inferior version. Nowhere on the Amazon site does it state what version of the Staedtler pencils are included. I was so excited to receive my package but, now l feel deceived and taken advantage of.
Thankfully, Amazon accepts returns. Staedtler, like most other manufacturers of art supplies, has several different sets that bear their name. Some are student grade and others artist grade. As consumers, we have to be careful and read the smaller print when getting into art supplies. I looked at the Staedtler pencils, as well, and was confused as to which pencils were student grade and which ones were the ones Johanna uses. What kept me from making the same mistake was I went back to one of Johanna's videos where she showed her box of colored pencils she uses and realized that the name on her packaging was different. I chose to go with Prismacolor Premier and like them very much because they have more colors, blend well, and are available open stock.

What is the difference between a blender and a burnished
They are basically the same. Derwent has a set with a blender and a burnisher, but they do the same thing.

It helps you blend the colors all together, especially if you are doing some layering, or even a single color it helps you smooth out the picture, the lines or circules you de during paiting goes away..
A burnisher pencil is a pencil with no color added that smooths out your pencil strokes. You go over what you colored with the blender/burnisher, pressing fairly hard. It actually presses the pigment from the colored pencil into the paper.They're also called blender pencils. Popular brands are derwent, prismacolor, and caran d ache. Find them on Amazon or your local craft store. Hope that helped.
But I have heard that a blender pencil and a burnisher pencil are two different items. Can you help me with that? Or, is you above description just what they are? Yikes, now you know how uninformed I am!

Jessy Lopez Derwent has a great Burnisher pencil; pushes color and adds a nice gloss to your colors too ☺️👍🏻
