I love my Toadfish Combo! My children bought it for me for Christmas. Last fish I landed with it--a 15 pound black drum was effortless and the combo performed well!
I just found your channel, so glad I did. I'm moving from hunting to fishing. Learning from you as I go and it has opened up a hole world! Kayaking the flats for now, West coast Florida. so fun! Thank you for what you do.
I’ve used several Toadfish rods and reels. The rods are amazing, but the reels are only pretty good. I recommend pairing the rods with a Penn or Diawa…or a Kast King if your budget is a little lighter.
I broke 2 of the reels( 1 on a 25+ lb ray and another on a 25’in red), if you’re not pulling up a whopper it’s a 10/10 combo, however for the mondos will definitely put some wear on the reel
I can say Toad Fish has great customer service. My brother's wife had the same exact combo and the rod broke shortly after purchase. Toad Fish replaced the rod, without question and apologized for the breakage.
I’ve had the 1 pic for a while and it is an awesome rod. Very sensitive… great back bone. I use it for flounder fishing and the reel seat makes it very comfortable. I highly recommend it!
So I have the toadfish 7'2 travel series so it's the three piece combo that comes with a fast and moderate action rod tip and love it! I have a daiwa Procyon AL 4000 paired with it and crush snook and reds and trout on it. The medium set up is great for flounder fishing in Sebastian inlet too. I don't know anything about the reel, but that rod has held up to some slabs of snook.
I haven’t watched in ages and stumbled on this video and it was cool to see the toadfish get some attention. I have one of their early one piece 6’8 med light rods that I leave in Florida at my mom’s house while I live in the north. I have it paired with a Penn battle 2 2500 reel and I love the setup. It’s comfortable and reliable and I haven’t had issues with wind knots personally. It feels good with a fish on the line and it’s never let me down. I was down there this past week and caught a nice lady fish and have also caught mangrove snapper and snook on it. 6 out of 10 is a fair score for comparing it to higher end gear but for the average angler I’d go 9 out of 10 personally for the 1 piece.
You gotta pack that braid tight. You could probably 50 more yards if you load it on to a spare real and then transfer it on to your new reel. I put the spare reel with the new line on a rod and put it in a holder. Put some tension with the drag on that reel then feed the line to your new set up and the you knot to get the new line onto that reel. And just reel in. Packs the Braid to get the most out of your capacity
i am a toadfish believer. have several one piece rods all 7'4" in med light through medium heavy in mostly fast and x fast action plus the travel rod. love them. i dont even use my st croix rods anymore. the polymer handle does take some getting used too, but its hard to beat for overall sensitivity. just make sure to keep a clean towel with you, because they get a little slick with fish slime on them. I use them for anything from perches and wallseyes and smallmouth up here on lake st clair in michigan to snook, reds and whatever else bites in SW Florida. can't speak for the reels, i already have found my favorites that i use, im done looking for anything better.
I have the 7’4 single piece rod and elite carbon 3000 reel. Rod is worth it and reel is definitely light and has smooth drag. I did dunk it for a few seconds while fighting a snook in the mangroves and it didn’t lock up but it did need some extra reel oil as it wasn’t as smooth after that. But an unsealed reel probably would have locked up. I feel the reel casts really well but mine does have a lil noise when cranking as opposed to other reels. Not sure if it’s just mine. Overall, it casts great and drag is super super smooth. I have not experienced the wind knot issue. The rod has landed me some big snook and a give it a thumbs up
I’ve caught plenty of fish on mine , biggest was a 33 inch snook held up great, wish it had a bit more power to it but it’s a great sensitive rod that works baits really well
I have used the elite toadfish reel (the most expensive one) not this one, for a year and a half hard fishing the sc coast the reel has preformed and caught 1000s of big reds trout and flounder and striper. My favorite reels I have 3 now.
The toadfish rod review was cool, but now a follow up with what is your day to day battle equipment would fit nice so that people can compare. It will also be helpful to include pricing so that people can see what their budget can afford. I myself don’t own fancy high end rods nor reels and I like how you mentioned that high end equipment is a choice not a necessity. Hope the baby gets better soon, I know first hand how worried one gets.
for a beginner it would be a decent set up,two piece not a good feature, drag is set for the price point and the reel is short on capacity, and kind of heavy but each to his own, Thanks for the video and review.
I travel a lot and bought a 5 piece that has two upper pieces each, to create light and medium action. Paid $80 on a special from Toadfish. It also comes with a very well made aluminum case with screw cap. Works great as carry-on for flights to places I may have some time for light tackle fishing like Colorado, California or Up State NY. Do I use it when fishing my 18' Hewes in So. FL? NO! Do I want to bring a $250 custom one-piece rod on a flight? NO!
There’s this one Inshore lews setup you can find at Walmart for around $80 and my friend had caught tarpon, snook, big peacock, and large mouth on it and it’s been over a year and still in good condition. I’d take a look at that if they still sell it.
Wind know will happen when to much line on the reel in my past experiences so I would just take off like 20-30 feet because it is over filled on the spool
I have one Toadfish one piece 7’ rod and I like it ok, but I have it paired with a Shimano, which are by far my favorite reels. This reel from Toadfish doesn’t really impress me just from seeing the specs & how it performed for you. I agree that the rod grip is a bit odd too; I really prefer St Croix rods, especially the cork grip.
I purchased a 7'6" medium heavy spinning rod from toadfish a while back and I ended up using it as a catfish setup because of how stiff it was. It just didn't work for me for what I originally ordered it for. Haven't bought another one since.
Ayy Yooo What Type Of Shirt Is That Lawson That Red Is Sick On You⁉️ 🙌🏽 what type of line are you using that alot of times has to do with wind knots also
Lawson but u and myself and few others truly fish as much as we do. E have to have the top ND even then I my new Stella went in for repairs month after owning it 1 month. Was kind of sad my Shimano Stradic have lasted a lot longer
Imo rods are to heavy for all day artificial throwing. Well built tho for longevity and work good for live bait. Never used their new reels I'll stick to penn.
Would never buy a 2 peice rod. (Referring to the 1 peice) Ol salty vs Toad fish would of been a good price comparison. Tht ol salty rod is pretty decent at the price point
I agree. The two I own are now used for nearshore reef fishing. The MH 7'2" is sturdy. I've pulled up a few keeper groupers without issue. Yes, too heavy for all day slinging.
Did you have problems with knotting with different braid? I tried 3 different braids and they kept knotting over and over. I finally contacted them and they are sending me a replacement rod. I'm hoping I just had bad rings or something
U are getting the reel knots because u are using a jerk bait so when u jerk it the line gets loose and then u reel up the loose line causing it too knot up
U defiantly got more than 80 yards of line because I have a 1500 and it holds 120 yards of line I pulled it all out of the reel and used a range finder
Lawson....have you ever had any interest in hunting??? I think it'd be awesome to see you and Mr Jacob do some south Florida hog or deer hunting!!!! For me personally I think that added to your channel would be badass!!! GOD bless ya brothers!!
That is the worst combo I ever had on the second time I took it out it broke from the reel leg very just by trying to get my hook off a branch unstuck no os not worth the money I would value it at about 15 dollars at the flea market thank you
Not worth the money. $160 is low end / entry level equipment. And it's china junk. Extremely heavy for artificial use. Reel only has like 4 or 5 bearings ( 😂 ) gear ratio is super low like 4.0 or 5.0 Someone could spend less and get better combo. Calico jack rod for $70 and a Shimano Sahara for $80 and have a way lighter , more reliable and more durable combo. That's just one example. I personally won't use low end / entry level gear. You get what you pay for. Go cheap get cheap results. Bull bay rods are my rods I love and Shimano reels no lower then a stradic up to my Stella's and vanquish. Note - rather a beginner or advanced angler. Never ever get a 2 piece rod. Always get a 1 piece
I am with ya. The Toadfish is prob a little overpriced for what it is. You can easily find a very comparable combo for half that price. But I as you dont usually fish with the lower end stuff so I am not a true test of if its worth it or not. Give me my Shimano or Penn reels and Savage Gear and Penn or St. Croix rods any day!😎
A law-dawg vid on a Saturday!? Life is goooood 😎😎😎
Im so glad you're doing more Canal/spillway fishing! Its my favorite
As a total gear nerd myself, I love this type of video. I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts on other products you come by. Maybe lures too
I love my Toadfish Combo! My children bought it for me for Christmas. Last fish I landed with it--a 15 pound black drum was effortless and the combo performed well!

Love rod/reel reviews like this! Hopefully you do more stuff like this in the future

Lawson! This video was awesome. Can you do more rig reviews?
4.0:1 gear ratio is a bust
need to have at least a 5.8:1 and pref a 6.2:1 ratio to work most topwater lures effectively
WHAT IS UP MAH DAWWWWWGS
Lesson’s famous laugh @7:23 😂 Every time he’s excited over a fish.

Saturday morning Lawson video? Today is going to be a good day gentlemen
I absolutely got a ton of wind knots when I first used it
There’s this one Inshore lews setup you can find at Walmart for around $80 and my friend had caught tarpon, snook, big peacock, and large mouth on it and it’s been over a year and still in good condition. I’d take a look at that if they still sell it.
Do a setup video of what you use and for what purpose
Love toadfish rods. Put a daiwa bg on it, call it a day
Wind know will happen when to much line on the reel in my past experiences so I would just take off like 20-30 feet because it is over filled on the spool

If you had to pick one saltwater lure to fish all of Florida what would it be? One lure for surf, backwaters, and intercostal.
White fluke or a Bucktail jig
bucktail jig

Love this color 🔥fish hoodie you’ve been vibing lately! “Dawgie Gear” color choice please??! TBA???!

Love toadfish but they need to make their fishing poles and reels tougher I've went through alot of them but their soo good I keep buying it
Move to northern Virginia missed watching your vids. Need to catch up. Keep up the good vids.!
I love it this rod and i have 4 of them. Never had any problems. Reel not my favorite but rod is amazing.
So serious question, what’s does ball bearings have to do with casting on a spinning set up..?
Love the canal fishing!
Toad fish looks great. Thanks brother Ricky 👩🏻🦼🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏💦🎣💦🐈⬛
I'd love to watch some videos where you critique or give reviews on lures and colors. Lets face it, when we can't fish we window shop lures.
Did you have problems with knotting with different braid? I tried 3 different braids and they kept knotting over and over. I finally contacted them and they are sending me a replacement rod. I'm hoping I just had bad rings or something
$160?!! On my budget I'm lucky to purchase an UglyStik Elite and the Walmart version of the Tsunami Shield! 😂
Love watching your videos!!!
Have to get the elite series which is one rod, not 2 piece. Great people at toafish
Happy Saturday Dawg‼️🤙🏽
Great video
this is a rod and reel combo more my speed and price range but not a fan of two piece rods either
I'd love to find something with the feel of Loomis and St. Croix, with the durability of an old ugly stick. I repair, replace eyelits none stop
Bull bay
Man I thought for sure this was gonna be a sponsor
I’d love a 10 month update on how this is holding up!
Is that yozuri on it if so🙏
I'd like to see what your main setups are exactly
I don’t get it is toad fish rod good for fresh water
U are getting the reel knots because u are using a jerk bait so when u jerk it the line gets loose and then u reel up the loose line causing it too knot up
I don’t know about the real, but my toad is paired with a daiwa slaltist 2500 and it is beast !
I never buy very expensive combos. My heavy combo (my more expensive one ) is abkut 300 buck all togeather. I got to say i dont need more than that
I have seen a couple Toadfish rods break on a certain RUclips channel. I'll stick to my Ugly Stiks.
👍
I'm not sure how the guys treat their rods but I've seen two or three of these rods break on camera.
$160? I buy most of my stuff for under a hundred including rod and reel and they generally work fantastic.
I’m early for once , loving the content
Those wind knots tho 😂
👍😊
I have several rods, two of them toadfish 7’ one piece. Both broke. Never broke another rod. I would not recommend.
“What brand is this” 😂😂😂
No offense Lawson but I think the wind knot thing was definitely a you thing considering you put the line on yourself 😅
My dawg!!!
wuddup LawDawgie
That is the worst combo I ever had on the second time I took it out it broke from the reel leg very just by trying to get my hook off a branch unstuck no os not worth the money I would value it at about 15 dollars at the flea market thank you
Let's Gooooooo!!!! :) Be Safe
Give it to a subscriber. A little kid hopefully
Quit wearing that 2 George’s hat haha, worst marina I’ve ever used
Not worth the money. $160 is low end / entry level equipment. And it's china junk. Extremely heavy for artificial use. Reel only has like 4 or 5 bearings ( 😂 ) gear ratio is super low like 4.0 or 5.0

You use Shimano and you mention actual line capacity versus advertised capacity LMFAO
Pequeño 🤣
I am with ya. The Toadfish is prob a little overpriced for what it is. You can easily find a very comparable combo for half that price.
